I could not agree with you more. He is one of the top bass singers of all time by any measure. The harmony of the whole group is unsurpassed. Too bad that sound can not be found in Gospel Music today.
Actually Roger is my cousin and he’s been a minister, as well as a lawyer and recently served as Attorney General for his state. His mother is still living, but my Uncle O’Neil passed away many years ago. I’ll be sure to mention to them that there are still folks who remember fondly!
This was a blast from the past. I think the last time I saw Roger was at Lou Hildreths house in Nashville in the early 70s. My dad, Vernon Payne and O'Neil did alot of singing back in the 50s in San Diego. Spent a lot of time at their house too. Great memories.
PureRoyaltyTV Hard to beat Jerry Reeds Version. I’m an Elvis nut over a Thousand of his Albums. But I have to concede Jerry is the best with this song. If Elvis had sang it straight and not in bass and in the style of the Imperials than it would have been a great track.just my two cents worth.
+W. James Wright and then he went on to kill them....he wanted to hang on so much that no one will ever be able to be able to use the name including his son
The Imperials lineup that sang with ELVIS! If Blackwood had not left, would anyone have ever heard of Russ Taff? The Imperials never recovered when Jim Murray left. Armond Morales, to me, is the greatest bass singer ever, period. Supposedly Wiles became a pastor and a lawyer.
Actually the stamps didn't sing with Elvis on his version, the Imperials did. In fact many of the tracks Elvis covered on his "He Touched Me" album were copies of songs the Imperials did first.
do you have anymore of the imperials? i love that group. i liked them better than jd sumner and the stamps when they were with elvis they seemed more livlier than the stamps
I always loved this song when they sang this with Elvis Presley.
Love the simplicity of the Gospel Songs just with the piano.
Armond Morales has one of the smoothest bass voices ever! I love this particular lineup of the great Imperials!

A wonderful song written by none other than the late, unspeakably great Jerry Reed.
Wow!!! I didn't know that.
greatest voices, greatest talents-even Elvis made with IMPERIALS 2 gospel albums!!! All glory to JESUS💖💖💖💖💖💖💖
I remember the Imperials so well....I barely knew who the Beatles were but I wouldn't miss an Imperials concert!

This is AWESOME!!!! I grew up on the Imperials, and have been able to find almost nothing of the early versions of the group. More, please!!
This is nice!Thumbs up if you think that the version with Elvis is the best version of the song!

I agree.

+alabama cowboy Yes Jake started the Imperials......I have nothing but respect for him however Armond went on to own them
+W. James Wright and then he went on to kill them....he wanted to hang on so much that no one will ever be able to be able to use the name including his son
That bass!! 0:53, etc also start at 1:09 to listen to the "yup a bup bum" at 1:12!!😄. The high pay is great too. And 2:22!!!!!

Beaultifull arrangement
I have this LP vinyl record from 1973. The Imperials, A Thing Called Love. Vista label. Yet, it does not appear on any Imperials discography.
This shows how almost any song sounds better when sung in four-part harmony.
Same style as Elvis and the Stamps version. The Imperials also did back up for Elvis in part of his career as well.
