When I was 19 my first session gig as a lead guitarist was replacing Stuart Everest in Lowlife in 1990. He was actually a big influence on me, so this was fairly mindblowing. I was joined by my great friend Hugh Duggie (Foil/Sons Of The Descent/Main Primate) on second guitar who took the full role of lead guitar soon after, as I was too tied in to the regular band I played with. My wee tenure with them was wonderful and hugely influential for me in all sorts of ways. Still stayed friends and went to Craig's wedding, he was a great fella, a unique and fascinating man and sorely missed. A very under-rated Scottish band, period. RIP Craig, RIP Brian, RIP Grant's missing finger.
Very nice story. I got a lot of interest on the 80's uk dream-pop bands. Sometimes, bands got less success because they are avant-garde. But not this case. They created really good songs in the same style that was the vogue. Pretty strange they came to an end because of lack of success and interest...
I’d love to see a documentary made about Lowlife. I am quite a big fan. I used to correspond with Craigy through the Permanent Sleep message boards and then via email. He wrote in all-caps when he was feeling especially spirited. We shared many of the same personal struggles and helped each other get through tough times. Later when I learned of his passing, I was gutted, like hearing of an old friend who’d passed. I never met him in real life, which is why I’m so curious to know more about him and others in the band. Lowlife never got the acclaim they deserved. It’s a terrible shame. 🖤
@@joepollock8455 Wow! Lovely anecdote. Would love to know more about Craig's life. There's not much info about the band on the internet. I discovered Lowlife in the last decade, and I've bought all of their catalogue. Fantastic band
When u could walk down the docks....ma uncles best friend Craig....I still stay in grangemouth and uncle John just asked for a pic of the band for his bar....rip Craig lorentson
Was listening to another band on UA-cam music when Permanent Sleep started playing. Never heard of these guys but boy am I hooked. His voice is enchanting and I love you can hear his accent through his lyrics. Such a shame there's not much footage of them!
I sit and stare at the clothes you never wear I hope you're having fun, even if i can't be there But i can't help feeling lonely when our bedroom is red I can't help wishing you were with me instead Your absence is pulling emotional strings I guess that's as they say, just one of those things The lack of you has knocked me from my steady tree I can't get up until you're safely home with me I feel this colour coming over myself This colours blue and i just can't make it fade.
As a young teenager in Grangemouth we would go see a band called the dead neighbours and of course Lowlife, am still in touch with Grant who played the drums
Blue is often associated with sadness in the English language. Blue is also used extensively to represent calmness and responsibility. Light blues can be refreshing and friendly. Dark blues are more strong and reliable
I get where you're coming from but there was no cobbling at all, Lowlife was almost like a blood brothers bond between Bill and Craig when I worked with them, there was a very strong sense that at the root of it all this band was absolutely their passion and their goal, and that was a few years down the line
RIP Craig, what a voice, should of been a superstar...
totally agree
Craig was just so... enchanting.
I'm in love with that voice.

In Germany blue is called "blau" and it means very Drunk...
achar essa banda foi como achar um tesouro.

Hermoso 😭

I just found this band today....wow amazing amazing! I hear a lot of joy division influence. Awesome 😎
These are much better
I love Lowlife but dont be silly son, now get yourself home@@fatherpaulstone896
♥
Ich komme aus Deutschland, gibts hier leute die sowas hören? 😢🎉
It's like Will Heggie got kicked out of the Cocteaus and had to cobble this band together... I know he left willingly though (?why would you?)
Many reasons. Personal, artistic...
If you have been in a band ever you will understand...
Also this was a great band. Not "cobbled together"
@@akahoof Well said Chris, they were pretty special were Lowlife, guitar and baritone vocal of Craig were amazing on their songs.
@@Ridersonthestorm8899 voice alone should have been megastar....but the guitar 80s sound was just...fantastic
