    I said it on another video, but I have been a jeep guy for a long long time and I would love to have one of these. Jeeps have always had a unique look and this new Cherokee takes it up a notch. I would be proud to own one of these

    I had a 2001 Jeep Cherokee Sport up until 2014. In 2020 I bought a 2015 Jeep Cherokee Trailhawk (the only trim level that looks good) with less than 50k miles. Love it.

    I too traded a Wrangler (with 3" lift, 33's) for a 2014 Cherokee Trailhawk, and I too am disheartened (but NOT surprised) by the ignorant comments. Build quality, off-road prowess, comfort of the Trailhawk is OUTSTANDING! PS- I Paid $20900 for a 2014 well equipped V6 Trailhawk!

      Do you have any idea how long these trail hawks last, recently bought a 2014 with 90k miles and it runs great but I’m worried about it’s durability.

      @@chokepointgaming3827 I just got a 2014 with 130k miles. I love it! I suspect we’ll get many miles out of these things. Tip: use pennzoil platinum 5w30. (Assuming you have the V6)

      @@PaDutchRunner yes I have the v6, it has a slight sound like a flywheel grinding or something when starting out in 1st gear. I bought mine around 90k and the only thing I needed to have done was replace the radiator
      Because it was leaking coolant. And there’s a slight vibration in the steering wheel above 80 miles an hour. Other than that the thing is a tank.

    • @chokepointgaming3827

      @@PaDutchRunner I actually don’t think the Trailhawk has a four-cylinder version. If it does it would be completely pointless because of how heavy it is. I’ve been to the part store and even though many people think it’s the same car it’s actually totally different. brakes are different rotors or different tires are different it’s completely pleated underneath and protected which adds more weight to the vehicle. Different starters in alternators different battery. It really is a different car than the Cherokee

    • @PaDutchRunner
      @PaDutchRunner 3 роки тому

      @@chokepointgaming3827 I’m so impressed by it thus far. And I’m so glad I didn’t pay $40k! However, even at $40k, I’d feel as though I got a great value.

    It's funny reading the usual comments below by people who have no idea what they are talking about. I just traded a 2012 Pentastar wrangler for a 2015 Trailhawk and the Trailhawk beats the Wrangler in every category from traction and gas mileage to comfort and handling. I think Jeep finally got something right with this car. It has ten times better traction than the wrangler in mud or deep sand. It does remind me of my Subarus, only it has so many more gearing options. All the handy storage cubbie holes are similar to an Outback that I had.
    My Trailhawk has exceeded all expectations in deep mud holes, mountain terrain and the NC beaches. No breakdowns yet and the 9 speedtransmission is doing great so far. although I see no benefit to it ever going over 7th gear.

    Bought one. Love it! This review was decent, but didn't share the numerous options available. The price they quoted is what we paid and with it came the technology AND luxury... Nav, Adaptive Cruise Control, Lane Keep Assist, Blind Spot Monitoring, it will park itself, Park sensors, more+more+more. Yeah, at first we thought it looked odd, but now it looks like it's got an attitude... and it does! By far it suits our needs better than the 2010 Tundra we traded in and is comparable in comfort and technology to our 2013 Audi A7. It's working for us!!

    I purchased a 2014 Cherokee Trailhawk. I am very proud of my new Jeep. I owned a '01 Cherokee and loved that also, but this Jeep does everything that did and does it better. It hauls stuff for work better, its way more comfortable to drive, it has more power under the hood, and it can handle snow and the minor trails I will take it on just fine. I looked at the Grand Cherokees but for the same options it would be 7k - 10k more.

    Curious to know how many of you with the negative comments actually sat in and drove the Trailhawk?
    I too thought the Cherokee was butt-ugly in photos until I took the plunge and actually went to a dealer to see it. My wife convinced me to since we could not afford the Grand Cherokee.
    This is a prime example of 'the photos don't do it justice'. It impressed the hell out of me in looks and drove so well I bought one completely optioned out for less than a basic Grand Cherokee.
    My 2003 Liberty took me 345,000 kms so I wanted to stick with the Jeep family.

    I have had a 18 Cherokee trailhawk for a few months now and no regrets living 10k ft up in CO. I was actually planning to buy a Tacoma trd or Wrangler because I do live off the pavement and need off road ability (serious snow ability) and from the photos this looks like it will fall apart. After actually offroading it on the mountain trails and driving through a snow storm this is the real deal. Commuting through a blizzard is much easier with Jeep's new active drive 2 vs rolling in 4x4 in a taco or Wrangler plus it rides like luxury vehicle on the road

    We were all set to buy a brand new 2014 Limited that was awesome until I read about all the transmission problems. Also didn't like that I would bump my head on the roofline while sitting in the back seat, the sunroof compromises too much headroom. Other than that I thought it was comfy, quiet and well appointed.

It's smooth and the nine-speed works well. And I drove like a complete maniac and it's average MPG was 28. With mixed driving. I'd get one, just not the trailhawk. I'd get the limited.

    This "off road trail" is no different than driving into my cabin here in northern Minnesota so I'm glad you at least mentioned that it wasn't a real off road trail. Would be fun to see it on the Rubicon though. And as far as cold and snow, it's currently -28 here and our last snow brought us 42 inches. :)

    This car is without question one of the most competent off road vehicles out there. It’s not being made for all you Jeep purists, it’s being made for a much wider market. And Jeep did it in spades. And for all those comments about the looks, so you want ALL JEEPS to look exactly the same? Really? It looks, drives and handles great! Glad I bought one. 10/10 Jeep.

    Dear Fast Lane, I've studied car and truck suspension for almost 30yrs. I have seen the changes, due to increased vehicle weight, you guy know the reasons for this. Control arm have gotten smaller and weaker, now Aluminum is often being used. MacPherson struts are used for vehicles deemed for off road use instead of upper control arms, and so on.
    You guy's should consider showing the suspension and educating people about it.
    Thanks for your tests.

      The reality is the old cherokee would suck compared to new in their stock forms. But it would be hard to compare to a mild lifted XJ (3-4") 33s, lockers, long arms. Pretty much everything I've done to it, rides better on road than stock XJ, corners better too. Oh, and off road... With the exception for maybe Truggies... it can pretty much do anything any other off road rig can do. Best part is, 250k on the original motor, and 20mpg (I have 4.56s and auto tranny). And I spent like 2k on the original Jeep, and probably spent $5000 since then between suspension, tires, armor, etc... So $7,000 for weekend warrior, and then I have a 06 Civic Si for daily driver. Even if you added both of the cars together, it still would be less than half of what the new Cherokee costs. This is why the Trail Hawk will not sell. Off roaders, for the most part, don't buy new trucks to go wheel. So why cater to a specific customer when they don't buy new vehicles. Just like all the JK Jeeps... Sure, they are nice, but too much money to go thrash on. Nothing like an old XJ/YJ that can be had for $5,000, then spend another 5,000 on it, and you're good to go.

      hung huge You left out repair costs in that. Maybe they have improved but rovers are know to break often and cost a lot to fix.
      The milage is only one more in the city and 3 mpg on the highway. The Jeep also has a larger tow rating, more leg room, more cargo space, more shoulder room in front, longer warranty, and the new Chrysler infotainment system is really nice.
      So 10,000 less , less expensive repairs and a much larger dealer network are all advantages for the Jeep. And for many people the Jeep name has some value as does Land Rover.
      The Rover does make a lot more power and is a very nice care but in the end it will all come down to that Rover is more expensive.

    • @hunghuge7717
      @hunghuge7717 11 років тому

      David Siebert Repair costs? If you can afford to buy these new it's unlikely you'll keep it long enough for the warranty to run out and like I said - resale will make up a big chunk of if not all of that initial 10000. Especially with Jeep going for that new look.

    Does the 4 wheel drive kick in automatically with terrain or do you have to select the different drive options.

    • @Daveinet
      @Daveinet 8 років тому

      Yes, but the selector determines how soon it kicks in. In Auto it has to spin quite a bit before the rear gets power. In Snow mode, the rear kicks in much sooner. in Sport mode, it is fully engaged all the time. Traction control is completely turned off. Mud and Sand is also fully engaged, but I think there is some traction control. Rock mode top speed is limited.

    38K is definitely a lot but that is fully loaded. I went on Jeep's website and built according to my specs and it comes to just shy of 33K. That extra 5K just gets you a bunch of amenities, so you aren't loosing anything that will lessen the offroad performance.
    And if you just want the barebones version with the 2.4 4 banger then it is just shy of 30K. Of course all of these number are just based on the Trailhawk, so if you don't care for the off road performance you can choose one of the regular models and load it with luxuries and come out much cheaper for a comparably equipped Trailhawk.
    And let's be honest, even a regular Cherokee with the 4x4 option is still going to offer much better off road performance than any other vehicle in its class.
    All that being said, I still don't know if I would like it as much as the my old 2000 Cherokee.

    This vehicle has the same ground clearance as a Subaru Forester only the forester has no skid plates. With a price tag of 38k, I would spend around the same money on a Toyota 4Runner. It's way more off-road capable, better built, and more reliable than that lack luster jeep Cherokee derp. If you want a fuel efficient off-roader than the cherokee derp is the vehicle for you. If you want a real off-roader, than get a second hand vintage cherokee. It's way better looking than the new one and way more off-road capable.

    • @paulj9821
      @paulj9821 6 років тому

      You aren't bright are you? Higher ground clearance, Engine has alot more hp and Torque, it's off road capabilities is in a much higher league than anything Subaru has, it has more safety, luxury and technology than the Subaru, can tow more I mean the list goes on. That is why it costs more so your comparison is seriously flawed. Also it sells for $34k fully loaded.

    Its funny, the front I don't mind. The rear end though needs some tweaks. First move the license plate onto the liftgate. it looks horrible on the bumper and leaves that giant gap of nothing on the lift gate. Then make the tail lights more like the 2014 grand cherokee. Don't have them cut into the rear window. The bottom of the rear window should be a straight line like the grand cherokee. Make those changes and the back would look so much better.

    There are some cars whose designs grew on me over a period of time. The new Mazda3 Sport is a good example; while I liked the sedan version, the hatchback version didn't click with me in the beginning. It is slowly growing on me now.
    That said, this one just doesn't quite do it.

    Yes 38k is a lot for this vehicle but you can also pay 34k for a Compass or 33k for a Patriot but I'd advise against it. A Trailhawk with the same offroad capability and plenty of comfort features that are standard is 30k. For the type of trails that most people would take this on they'd likely be fine with a Cherokee Latitude and the low range gearing. Nathan and Roman, you've driven them both, is that a correct statement? Could a base Latitude with Active Drive II done that trail?

    I really like when you guys review vehicles off road. You discuss the proper off road talking points for the most part. I would liked to have seen this vehicle on some tougher terrain, because I think we both know it could handle a little more.
    I would have liked to have seen some discussion of independent vs solid axle, and maybe a touch of body on frame vs unibody. The people looking at this vehicle want an off road capable car, so might as well inform them right? These are small nits I am picking however, and I really do enjoy the reviews.
    I own a 2012 Wrangler Unlimited Rubicon. All in I paid $42k, and that's almost fully loaded. For a difference of $4k I don't see why anyone would buy this vehicle instead if they planned to go off roading. Want more luxury and comforts? Grand Cherokee Overland or an LR4. Granted, at a higher price point, but they simply make more sense. Great review guys, and I look forward to the next one.

    I do not have a problem with the new Cherokee. I do think that Jeep made a really stupid move when it stopped making the Cherokee and started with the Liberty. The old Cherokee had become a classic and should have just been updated over the years like the Wrangler. This is in many ways a good replacement for the old Cherokee. BTW to all the Cherokee lovers out there do you not remember how the faithful where upset with the last Cherokee? My gosh people it was offered as a four door! What is worse is was unibody! And then they offered it in RWD! What had the world come to!

    I actually own the new Trailhawk - believe it or not, I traded in a 2008 Audi S5. I get just as many admiring looks in this car as I did in the S5. The styling is great - definitely not to be confused with any other CUV. Compared to the Trailhawk, a Grand Cherokee is massively overpriced and big. This car drives great in everyday commuting and gives you the option to head to the ski resorts and moderate offroading. I bought mine fully loaded (less the panoramic sunroof) for $38k off the lot with the impressive Tech package. More practical for everyday use than a Wrangler, but only the absolute purists will complain about its offroad capabilities; for 95% of all other people this is a great balance of onroad/offroad without compromises. After 2 months I couldn't be happier and don't even miss my S5.

      The ZF R&D center which developed this ZF 9-speed transmission is at only 1km distance from my apartment. The brother of my buddies wife, works as a software developer in this center. He tells me about the special full automated wear compension capability (of course, only bit to a certain degree) of the new gear unit.
      This happens by means of a calibration system which is fully integreted in the gear house unit. That allows mileages that would habe been unvollstellbar front short. 1 million kilometres should not be a problem.

    Same platform does not mean the same frame / body. They share the CUSW format(C-size, United States-Wide variant), that is all.
    Too many people think that the Cherokee sit on the same frame, it doesn't. It's no where near and never has been.

    Ok I have to speak up. For most of you who have no clue what your talking about let me enlighten you. This vehicle is not the old Cherokee, it is the replacement for the liberty nitro segment. It is based on a stretched dart platform. When fully loaded this vehicle offers more than any vehicle in it's class for around the same money and in some cases less. Everything I have read in the comments just proves that people always attack what they don't understand. Research or better still drive one before you make your uneducated comments. This vehicle is designed to compete with the escape, rav 4, crv. As for the 9 speed transmission, you barely even notice it shift, it performs flawless and makes amazing fuel economy with the tiger shark or the pentastar. Oh and as for the evoke, they tried to beat Chrysler to the 9 speed and lost. Let's see what you all say when they finally introduce their 9 speed.

      dobbins2550 I don't hate Chrysler but might as well round it up to $40k. That is too much for a Jeep like that. I'm sorry. I would never even spend that much on a vehicle myself. $30k is about my limit. I do see lots of them on the road and they are different looking. But lower prices and more incentives will sell even more and thats what Fiat/Mopar really want.

    What do you mean Subaru doesn't have a locking diff. You can transplant the 6spd from the STi into any Subaru which gives you DCCD and I can Lock or vary my front to rear power distribution from 90/10 to 50/50 in 10% increments. Or just buy an STi for less than that thing and have 305hp and 300tq turbo flat four
