    Cheaper housing isn't racial bias. I live in Dutch Town, St. Louis, MO. It's an old neighborhood, 15,356 residents last census. 51% Black, 28% White (me), 5% Asian, 11% Hispanic and the rest are mixed (my wife - White/Native American). Our housing is cheaper than Kirkwood for a lot of reasons, but it isn't race! Could be the fact that we have high crime: "Is Dutchtown, St. Louis, MO Safe? The D- grade means the rate of crime is much higher than the average US neighborhood. Dutchtown is in the 10th percentile for safety, meaning 90% of neighborhoods are safer and 10% of neighborhoods are more dangerous. This analysis applies to Dutchtown's proper boundaries only. "

    Why has everything became”this” or “that”?black or white, gay or straight, pro this or anti that. It is tiring, and unrealistic, I can agree with you on one thing and that puts me in your camp, but if I disagree on another, I’m no longer in your camp. This makes no sense!
    I support gay and lesbian but I don’t agree with transgender or any of the other alphabet, so where does it put me?

    I saw Obama for the first time about a year before it's starting to actually campaign for president and I knew after watching that speech he gave that he would be our next president which I thought was great and so did millions and millions of other white Americans especially because we thought it was finally bring an end to whatever racial tensions were left in the United States which most people thought was very minimal but he made it worse he was very devicive.

  • @byronleigh80
    @byronleigh80 10 днів тому +3

    Race is a social construct and how you define it depends on the country you are in. You can split hairs over what Obama is, but society confirms him as being black. The problem is the guy is trying to be intellectual over concept that is fluid on the fringes. In the UK, for example yes they may also call Obama black but they will also point out that he mixed race. In some places in Southern Africa he may even be called “coloured”.

    • @journathan
      @journathan 10 днів тому +1

      Biology is a better judge since it doesn't require social constructs to define. Obama biologically isn't just black, his skin might be but his DNA proves he's mixed. That's a far more objective standard in which to judge race

    You could make a *much stronger argument* by _conceding_ the fact (and it is a fact) of individuals being racist in their decisions regarding loans/in red-ling question. BELIEVE IT OR NOT; I discovered this line of thought as a child growing up in the South and watching a film that was my mom's favorite one..."SHOWBOAT". Remember one of the themes in that film (besides the beautiful song; "OLD MAN RIVER"). There was a scene where a sheriff arrested an actress from the SHOWBOAT because she was partially black...her dad was white and her mom was black. That stuck in my mind as a kid.

      Agreed. Conservatives are playing a dangerous game right now. Deny racism while claiming liberals are racist. Deny racism against blacks while also claiming everyone is racist against whites.
      Ask any conservative if society is racist against whites they’ll say yes. You can use they’re own logic against them and ask them what rights do black people have that white people don’t and they’ll say nothing and try to say the racism is social, political and often baked into day to day treatment.
      It’s a very stupid and dangerous game to play.

    It came to my mind with this video another popular narrative that black communities have with labeling dominicans as purely black and feeling insulted whenever a dominican don't claim or don't want to claim publicly its "blackness". Same happened with the South African singer Tyla when she said that she identified as a mixed person and not black, the american black community lost their mind and went wild accusing her of betrayal and of not being proud of her roots, meanwhile, the south african black community was unfazed by it because being mixed is an ethnicity concept that they all understand and is part their culture. The USA is way too polarized when it comes to racial narratives and doesn't even allow other possibilities out of those poles; i can clearly see how it could have opened a can of worm for barack obama identifying as mixed instead of black.

    The concept of "race" is truly a social construct as there is only ONE current human race, the homo sapiens sapiens (not a typo). The only difference is in culture and upbringing. In that regard, skin color is about as important as hair color.

    The host of this reaction video is also disingenuous. The Brookings’s is one among many studies to confirm the racial house value gap.
    The comparison with the gender pay gap is also misleading.
    In fact, gender pay gap multivariate analysis DOES bring everything back to gender, just not the results of gender prejudice.
    But a multivariate analysis of the racial house-value gap probably would come down to prejudice, because most putative factors could almost certainly be largely attributable to prejudice.
