Back when Petsmart first started selling reptiles they had a blue tongue skink at the store I worked in. I was mildly afraid of reptiles but this guy was so calm and sweet unless he was in his cage. In the cage he was always pacing the walls, looking frustrated, wanting to get out. We would take him out and he would just happily sit on your shoulder while helping customers, counting crickets, cleaning fish tanks or whatever. Loved that little guy, another associate ended up buying him.
The pet store I worked at when I was in high school had a bearded dragon that was like that we all loved it and a lot of the time customers thought it was part of our uniform because we had it on our shoulders so much 😆😆😆 it freaked one customer out when it moved to look towards a coworker that walked by me I used to get in trouble for wearing the sand boa like julery before we sold it too 😆😆😆 I also fell even more in love with reptiles than I already was and the "creepy" tarantula more than i already was because none of them bit me like the mice, hamsters, rabbits, or birds did quite frequently 😆😆 heck even the fish would nip when cleaning the tanks because we hand fed them but the way I look at it is you don't get mad at your cat or dog for the occasional playful nip why would you with other pets it's a concept people who don't like reptiles don't understand haha I had a lady give me the most horrified look when I told her I used to feed my leopard gecko by hand my leopard gecko she was so gentle when she fed I basically just place the meal on her teeth for her and she's never once bitten me she also used to walk along the glass or prop herself up on it when she was really hungry or just wanted to be picked up I saw her as my little furless cat I miss her she passed away last summer hope all you wonderful people reading this have a great day 😁😁
it will always be wierd to me that its perfectly normal for us as humans to buy and sell animals - other living beings. Implying their lives are worth a certain amount of money or profit. Wven wierder is the phrase “owner” when people talk about their “pets”. Certainly interesting how we’ve all become so desensitized to these terms.
I went to a pet smart yesterday to get a uvb bulb and I saw some lucky it was a pet smart that actually had good setups they had an employee who knew a lot about them instead of a uvb bulb I almost came home with a blue tongued skink
You forgot to mention how clean leopard geckos are! I've never had other reptiles who purposefully take their business to one corner of their tank. Makes cleaning their home SO easy!
@@PupIsDead god that’s so weird. both of mine do it, one of which is nearly turning a year old and i’ve had since he was a month old, he’s done it since the time i got him so it has to be an instinct. your gecko is an outlier for sure lol
I really loved Diamond's editorial eye glance when you said he was never going to sprout wings or breathe fire. It's like he was saying, "Well, we'll see about that."
Apparently my ball python didn't get the memo of hanging out chilling, he loves to explore when he's out of his enclosure. He gets supervised carpet slither time a couple times a week.
@@WickensWickedReptiles Not crazy per se, just very curious. Got stuck in our loveseat a few months back cause I took my eyes off him for a few seconds (and that was an interesting afternoon of ripping the couch open to get him out). Glad he's an adult ball and not very speedy xD
Thats how mine is too. Shes very cage active at night too. When i handle her shes everywhere, but when my 5yo handles her, shes chill as can be, hangin on his neck and never moves. My ball python is especially well behaved for her age. Shes 4 months old, and shes gonna be big because shes already 21" and no, shes is definitely not overfed.
You think you could do a top five electrical saftey products or energy efficients I have 6 enclosures and love to see how you have all yours setup. Love the content as always and happy holidays.🤙🏽
I have yellow belly slider in her own 75 gallon a southern painted in 25 gallon baby Russian tortiose 50 gal low 75 gallon for my juvenile bearded dragon and a 20 long for my baby raptor leopard gecko last but not least a 4 month old axolot in a 25
When I got my leopard gecko as a baby, he wasn't socialized and would scream at me but I worked with him for a couple months until I could fully handle him and he liked exploring with me. Seeing him go from being scared of me to falling asleep in my shirt is the most rewarding thing ever
I can vouch for blue tongue skinks being “Easy to Handle”. I got nibs as a new born and he’s never tried to bite me. He is very huffy though and doesn’t like being touched. He’ll normally hiss at me if I touch him or walk away. But I can pick him up when I need to clean his enclosure and move him somewhere until I’m down. Maybe with some more work he’ll stop hissing.
A friend of mine met a beardie at an expo who was steeply discounted because he was grown and "not friendly at all". Said beardie crawled right up her arm and fell asleep on her in two minutes. She took him home, of course. He was in fact perfectly friendly, he just needed some one on one time with an owner who would sit quietly with him! My leopard gecko is flighty and would rather climb the couch than hang out with anyone when she's taken out, but she has NEVER tried to bite me. Even when I'm making her mad by getting stuck shed off her feet. Hubby once did something VERY foolish when she was clearly tail-wagging at him- he went in to boop her nose with HIS nose- and he *still* got away unscathed.
I love that a beardie topped your list. As a former reluctant reptile owner, my husband getting a bearded dragon completely changed my mind. I absolutely love our big guy (Rusty-just turned 2yo) so much so that I even subscribe to reptile channels like WWR now😊. Keep up the great work and continue advocating for these amazing creatures.
Yet, bearded dragons are the reptile I see, most often, neglected/improper husbandry and rehomed. That's what I would like to see a video on, the top five neglected or given up retiles and amphibians ...and top five reasons why...
@@amandastakeonit7402 Unfortunately, there are many terrible pet owners in this world. I would never consider a beardie or many other animals appropriate pets for most people. I was astonished at how much it costs and how much work it is to keep such a small animal-and if you do it right, you will be taking care of it for >10 years 😳. I also can’t believe it often gets mislabeled as a “beginner” reptile. I like your idea for a video and think a breakdown of the average cost and time consumption for the first year of care (housing, lights, food, trips to store) for the top re-homed/neglected reptiles would also make for an informative video.
Great list; this is the kind of thing more people need to see! The only one I’d change is that I’d put chuckwallas over beardies. They have the same kind of size and heartiness, but are often even more gentle and passive.
My dragon wasn’t really socialized when I got him but after working with him he’s calmed down quite a lot, just really shows how they’re pretty chill by nature. My Georgie is still kind of a diva though in that he’ll turn his beard dark over the smallest things
Very well done. I 100% agree about bearded dragons. You hit the nail on the head in describing them. Diamond is so chill I have to see more. Add a subscriber and keep up the good work!
Jasper, my little grump of a leopard gecko, was the runner/screamer of the Petsmart clutch. I hadn't really gone to the store with the intent of buying a reptile, but after seeing the sale they were having and seeing her cute little face, I really couldn't resist. I knew what I was getting into with her. Hell, I even went into the purchase saying "gimme the one with the attitude" bc I wanted the one with a "big personality"...to the silent concern of my best friend and the lady who had to catch her. I don't regret that choice necessarily, as she is super fun and has mellowed out a lot in the year I've had her, but I do regret getting a leopard gecko from Petsmart of all places. Overall, their geckos don't get held or interacted with unless absolutely necessary for medical reasons, and commonly, their providers are either really scummy or really lazy in socializing the animal, so she was...quite angy as a baby. Later in the year, my friends ended up pooling their money and buying me that really cute ball python I would always interact with at the local grange co-op, and he is a GEM. Fully socialized, never opposed to being held, always curious and exploring...and Jasper at nearly 16 months old now is still pretty flighty and "don't touch me"...which is just sad to me. TLDR; I wish I'd been less worried about overly stressing her when I first got her bc maybe if I'd held her more in those first few months, maybe she'd be less flighty now.
Agh, my heart seriously can’t cope with how cute leopard geckos are!! With their perpetually happy little faces and their chonky wiggle-butt tails! I can’t.😂❤ Thanks for taking a risk on the one with the “saucy” attitude, otherwise she probably would’ve had a pretty sad fate. I definitely feel your pain about buying from petsmart/petco/basically any type of box chain pet store… They’re irresponsible pet stewards, so I always want to save *ALL THE THINGS* from their stores-but sadly, I can’t. Because I know that would just encourage them to double down on restocking even more of the animals I “saved”…😢 (Well, plus I don’t have the kind of “kiss my ass” money necessary for buying and comfortably housing/caring for every animal in a store lol). Le sigh. 💔
I have two rescue ball pythons that came from a neglect case. They were kept in 40 gal with 3+ other adult pythons. They were never handled, and the owner ended up selling all eight of them together in a bag for a hundred bucks. I took two of them from the lady that initially bought them and was going around trying to find them a good home. I have had them for close to a year and was only ever tagged once in the first two weeks. Now even though they were treated terribly and never socialized their baby and juvenile years, they are the sweetest snakes i've ever owned. They love to snuggle up and watch tv with me, and have huge personalities. I 100% agree with this list, if you want a sweet and gentle snake a ball python is a perfect fit for beginners and long time reptile owners.
My Leopardgecko Zuko is my first Reptile. I really love him so much! There is so much character in such a tiny creature. He's one year old and he already taught me so much . When he first bit me ( I wanted to clean his wetbox , he LOVES this cave) it just spooked me and doesn't hurt ,really. I really want more of them, they are so cool to watch and just so lovable animals!
Can definitely agree with Blue Tongue Skinks. My adorable CoaCoa use to be scared by me and my girlfriend, but after some months of taming her down, she no longer bites (unless she mistakens my fingers for worms then she'll do a little nibble), she no longer runs and hides, she enjoys chin and head rubs, she responds to her name, she's very social with us, and she's not even an adult yet 🦎
i’ve had a corn snake for 20 years and she has been the most chill animal ever. she is quite active when i take her out of her enclosure but she’s never bit me or shown any aggression.
This guy is so awesome!!! Thank you Adam, because of this UA-cam channel, our family is now a reptile family and we own a bearded dragon. My Little sister and little brother are absolutely in love with your channel 😂 just wanted to say a BIG thank you!!!!!
Your video editing is awesome, I love watching your intros with your reptiles! You can really tell you put a lot of time in putting your master pieces together!
Nice t-shirt option: Nuture All Nature (All Canadian Reptile Girl) with video sponsor Wren...lol. No shock an awe with #1. Great video for anyone looking for a chill reptile!
Cornsnakes could have made the list. My 2 are super placid. My older one did bite when I first got him, but his bite was like getting hit with Velcro, I have to say I agree with your list, I have little Leo and blue tongue experience but they seem pretty laid back from the ones I’ve e met.
I have had six, currently have five and aside from a new baby here or there, they never strike or bite. I have watched and heard so many stories about BPs biting and being snippy, so I would put corns over BPs EVERY time!
@@joshualandry3160 if you have a bad experience with an animal it can sour your view on them. I am like that with Rosy Boas, but I have only ever met cantankerous Rosys my male was a bite, wrap and hang on, and if you got him to let go he’d just do the same thing in another spot. He’s not the only Rosy I’ve known like this. So as much as I love Rosys and boas in general I won’t own a Rosy anymore.
It’s nice to know that when Adam logs on and replies back to us . That either diamond is on his shoulder or picatchu is just sat chillin 😎 on his lap lol 👍🏻 xx
@@WickensWickedReptiles 😂😂😂 I won’t say too much , because I know he’s on your shoulder reading these 😂 👀 xx Hope you and your family had a lovely Christmas
I had a Uromastyx as a teenager for several years and he was absolutely amazing. If they weren’t so hard to find I would have them on this list! Great video!
In my experience with Geckos, especially Leopard Geckos, if they aren't unburdened of their fear response early they are more likely to always be leery of humans and sometimes revert after a seemingly successful pacification. Rescues have a rough go of it: Just lots of work slow, tender work. Bearded Dragons, I love them. When you have an animal so indifferent and tolerant of us humans it's only easy to go up from there. Unless, it's breeding season. *head-bobbing-banging* Happy Holidays, Adam! Hope your Christmas was great.
Hi 🥰 I have watched about 5 videos about different types of lizards and reptiles. I love how you've had Diamond on every single one. I'm a first time reptile owner searching for my first lizard. I'm sold on a diamond!! thanks for all your help!
I have been wanting a Beardie for soooo long! I love all of your videos so much they are very helpful. Hoping to get my beardie soon just want to make sure I know as much as possible about them first before owning one!
I can’t help but agree to your list. I mean I can back that up about beardies. They are the most friendliest lizards that I have ever encountered in my life. They are the puppies of all reptiles and they are very social around humans.
Our bearded dragon is so friendly that the only time he gets at all upset is when we try to put him down. Then he will cling and look at you like, "No! Don't put me down. That was no enough snuggling!"
Pleased to see blue tongues make the list. I got my Eastern at 2 1/2 months old & he's now almost 13 months, & he's about as tolerant as a reptile could be. I'm convinced he would never bite anyone, unless it was food confusion. Despite being very young when we got him & having been handled by young kids he's never even gotten defensive enough to do the tongue display that wild blue tongues are famous for. He is more work to handle than a bearded dragon would be as he doesn't stay still for very long when in the open, & he'd quickly find a nook or crannie to disappear into if not closely supervised. He does like to sit on my shoulder though, & I love the way he'll snuggle into my neck when he wants to warm up.
Good content again. Dione rat snakes (Elaphe dione) are insanely friendly too. Can be bought in many local forms/colour forms (bred/established by the Exotarium Tula, some very aesthetic animals are Wladiwostok/Nigrita/Vipera/Beijing forms). Even has a very short incubation time of only two weeks in some cases (incubation is easy too). They are the best starter snake according to many in Europe, totally underrated in America/Canada. The same as the Siberian Amur snakes (the Korean one isn't).
FYI, Siberian Amur snake is most likely Elaphe scherenckii other than feeding response they are very placid snakes, the Korean species or subspecies on the other hand are "hell on wheels". They are known in the US as "Russian rat snakes" most likely because the first ones in the US came to the Brookville Zoo(AKA Chicago Zoological Park) as a trade with the Moscow Zoo back in the 1960's. They even bred in Ray Pawley's constant 90 degree reptile house the first babies were even available as surplus for$75 USD well out of my budget as a student. Nice to know about Dione rat snakes, having purchased a ladder snake as a baby that makes local wild coachwhips and racers look placid made me sort of not want to try any other Eurasian rat snakes.
My beardie, Odin, of 13 years just passed. He was incredible and might I say these are very hardy chill animals. If you let them loose have a patio or balcony window, anything that is a source of natural light and heat, they will chill there all day. Mine skittered all over the place in the summer and usually had a spot under my entertainment system where he falls asleep. When they memorize the layout of your house, if yours is like mine, they will find your room and just stare at you for a bit then run off elsewhere
I love your videos so much!!! I just got a crested gecko today and ur videos helped me so much setting up his enclosure and getting everything ready for him🙂
I was about to flip my lid that Beardies were not on the list...lol... Thank goodness they finally made a list, and its the best one... Love Beardies more then anything for this reason, my boy will sit with me and the dogs all day and night...
I used to keep reptiles, specifically cornsnakes and a rescued crested gecko. My main corn was a gorgeous snow morph, and he only bit me once, which was my fault. I tried booping his nose, and cornsnakes as it turns out are not boopable.
I agree 100% with #1 Once me and my brother had to watch my neighbor’s bearded dragon, I picked him up and he crawled into my shoulder and didn’t care one bit even though he had never seen me before.
I have a beardie (his name is Spikey) and one day he almost ran off my hand. He got scared because my german teacher was suddenly being loud in the online class. He got scared but that's the only thing I've seen with my beardie. Sometimes he headbangs to me but that's it. Once i pick him up it's all okay. Great animals man
My bluey Jeje is such a sweetheart these days. Of corse like any other animal he has things he doesn’t like and certain people he doesn’t like. But he’ll comfortably sit with me while I do homework or watch movies.
My african fat tailed gecko is the sweetest reptile I have ever owned. Never hissed or even thought about biting anyone. You can scoop him up and hang out with him any time. My BTS is a little moody on the other hand. He will try to bite you and is very huffy. However he is still young and it really seems to be a territory thing, because he only acts like that in his enclosure. Once he is out, completely calm and no issues whatsoever.
I have 4 kids all adults now, who throughput the years have had many pets from reptiles to ferrets and everything in between. So being the mom ive gotten used to all. Im 67 now and am now a widow. I dog that i had since she was 8wks old passed away this year. I live with my daughter and son in law now who are animal lovers. So we have 5 dogs, 3 rats, and 3 snakes. However for the first time in my life im alone in my room. So i thought about getting a new pet. I feel in love with a male sand boa. Hes lovely. Very gentle and easy going. Hes truly my buddy now. He very easy to hold and talk to, he pays attention 😊. Im very comfortable handling him. Maybe because im old and move slow hes very easy going. His name is Suibian. Which means whatever, thats how we leave, whatever happens we can get through it together. Love your show. Stay healthy, happy and safe always.
Great list! We have 3 on there, 1 beardie, 2 balls and 4 leo's. Hope to get a blue tongue next year. We also have 2 baby corns that are super sweet and a sun skink.
I have two Leopoard Geckos. One didn't get socialised enough as a baby and tries to fight everything (my hand, her water bowl, a shadow, the cats tail when they used to sit on top of the viv). The other loves to be held though can't sit on your shoulder anymore as she lost all of her toes. The latter one was a rescue (handling her was probably the only thing her previous owners got right).
The environmental education center I used to volunteer at got a baby ball python and told us teen volunteers to get him used to people. We all loved him, he was so chill you'd sometimes forget he was on your wrist.
My daughter talked me into letting her get a leopard gecko. He's pretty chill, chill enough that my 3 year old can even hold him (under close supervision). He's so low maintenance, the main thing for us is making sure to keep a close eye on the temperatures in his tank. We have some brutal winters up here and live in an old house with so so insulation
I've watched your live stream with my Blue tongue skink on my shoulder and hood of my hoodie. He is so great. Love to see the Blue Tongues get on the list. 😃
My favorite things about ball pythons is how deliberate their movements are and how easy they are to read! Not to mention their gentle natures :) great video and keep up the awesome work!
i can confirm that bearded dragons are surprisingly durable. i had one who jumped off of my shoulder while i was going down the stairs. he dropped 3 meters onto a hardwood floor and was perfectly fine, just walked off to climb a potted plant like nothing happened. also, yes, they are incredibly easy to handle. zero agression, super chill, good size, just great animals to keep.
Love this list and love Diamond! The ear bites are adorable (cause I'm not the one being bitten lol...sorries) and there's something so relaxing about a snake or lizard that is willing to just chill with you.
My bearded dragon is the sweetest thing ever, like almost all beardies, but he is so inquisitive. Doesn't matter how often I let him out or how familiar the surroundings are, he loves to move around and explore. He was the most active, friendly, and healthy of all the beardies when I went to get one. Only downside is he only wants to eat bugs and i have to take a little extra care to make sure he eats his veggies. It's like I have a child, but with scales lol
Crested geckos, garter snakes and hognose could definitely be on the list. Some crested geckos like to bite but I think it's rare. Even wild garters rarely bite. Hognose only bluff strike and usually only bite as a feeding response.
I think crested gecko babies are like all baby reptiles, scared...so they are more likely to bite, even then of the five we have had only two bit as babies and it was a total of three times between them. As for sub adults or adults biting, I agree, it would be rare or definitely the blame of the person handling them and how they are doing it.
I’ve had my crestie for 3 years now and have never been bit or anywhere close. They are wonderful starter reptiles for sure. I think they are less work than leopard geckos too because they don’t require heat lamps or anything
I met an adult bearded dragon at a pet shop years ago. The owner took him out and let me carry him around the store. He put his belly on my forearm, hung his legs and tail over the sides, and went to sleep pretty quick. Once he warmed up I almost forgot he was there. Would've walked right out of there if I hadn't seen his empty enclosure by the door.
holding them is my favorite thing about both of my lizards. the crestie is pretty much a therapy lizard bc she cant climb anymore and doesn't jump and the Leo is just fun to have walk around my arm or my hands.
Yeah, beardies really are the best. I may not have one myself, but one of my friends does, and whenever I come over, I can't go without holding her bearded dragon.
Just turned the vlog on so not sure if Leopard Geckos make this one but I just want to share, my Leopard Gecko begs to be held. She will stand up tall and pace and stare at me and when I offer my hand she climbs up and then will go to sleep on my chest for about 20 minutes. If I take her out and set her right back in, thinking she has one brain cell so she should be good and think I held her, nopeity no way jose, she begs out again. But after a 20 min snoogle fest she will go do her lizard things when I put her back. I love her so so much. 🥰😊
Like the new intro man. Really like this video bring me back to the old days when I was working at the pets shops carrying around bearded dragons on my shirt while I was cleaning they're enclosures. Love the skinks names to.
I would've expected tortoises to make their list. From my experience, they're definitely one of the friendlier reptiles! And personally I don't think leopard geckos would fit this list. Personally, I find them a little too fragile, and from my experience leopard geckos always try to run away while being handled. Nice video overall though!
Agreeing with the list! And if beardie seems too big, one can always get a Rankins dragon (pogona henrylawsoni). Same lovely, curious, friendly personality but in a smaller package (and more picky with their greens🤣)
Although there is not much availability in New Zealand, about everything on this list is available in New Zealand! So this is kind of a New Zealand special.
I have a leopard gecko (Diablo blanco) and he’s been crazy since I got him. He has bitten me so many times! I’ve been working with him for a few months now and he will now let me pick him up for weigh day, no problems!
Do you think that being captive bred bred for generations plays a huge role in the most friendly reptiles? Like bearded dragons, northern blue tongues, and ball pythons have all been bred in captivity for so many years now that they are almost being domesticated in a sense.
I've thought about this as well. You would think it'd make sense, as they would become more accustomed to habitation with humans with successive breeding. I'm more of a rodent guy and the only comparison I can make is that mice have been domesticated for thousands of years and I can stick my hand in their cage and have them run right up my arm, even with nervous individuals I've never been bitten they just freeze or flee, whereas hamsters have been in the pet trade for less than a hundred years and require a lot more work to tame down. Even when I do have my hamsters at a "tame" point I still have to test their temperament that day before grabbing them as they are still pretty nippy lol
No I used to mod the largest FB for skinks and northerns are feisty. I frequently had to help people with this all the time, they're told skinks are placid and once warmed up they don't know how to deal with gaping/biting/false bites and shielding. They're known in Aus for readily biting , they're not like their Eastern cousins.
I have a Northern Blue Tongue, and I got her young. Absolutely glad you have them on your list! I also think it makes a huge difference in regards to where you get your reptile. I found a great breeder in Chicago and at any moment I can message him and get a response in a day or less. I was also able to pick what couple that mated baby. My opinion this was a huge .
Couldn't agree more with number 1. Nothing but the most laid back critter that you could own. A little bit on the pricey side, bit worth it. Also, definitely agree with getting critters as babies. A bite will usually mean nothing and they are much easier to tame. And mistakes are much more forgivable.
Hello Adam. How about a video on which reptiles are the easiest to clean up after? Time and grossness? I don't own reptiles, but that would be an important factor for me. although I don't know how you'd film it without 'going there'.
I’m watching this video while getting ready for my day … with my ball python Garth coiled up in my shirt. 😂 I often exclaim (in my best Woody voice), “There’s a snake in my boobs!” Because I’m a dork.
My little guy Bandit is a pink tongued skink, like the semi arboreal cousin to a blue tongue. Bought him from a reputable reptile enthusiast store (reptile rapture) at 3months of age. He was a little hissy when I first got him but I handfed him and gave him a lot of time on my shoulder once we had reached the point he would accept my touch. He has been an actual joy he's on my shoulder constantly when I do the dishes and loves watching tv with me. He is about 5 1/2 now and still the sweetest ever. He needs a fair amount humidity but he prefers canned bugs (as a scavenger) and the occasional salad, really easy to care for. I've been changing a lot of peoples minds about reptiles every time people see him they want to pet him.
I love reptiles, I had a reticulated python named willow, she was my best/only friend for a while, but one day she became really sick. She passed away the next day. I might have new friends, but you’re the OG. R.I.P Willow
What do you think about tortoise? Also another major drawback to ball pythons is feeding rodents, especially with kids and parents. Please do a part 2!
@Strider whiston true but most people eat pork themselves, many parents find rodents a hassle. Although I agree with you many people don’t get them until they move out for this reason.
@@MohamedIbrahimFerozKhan I read your initial comment and I thought, what in the world do kids and parents object to about rodents. This one clarifies it at the very last words! So I see, you being the kid and living with parents and they don't want the rodents in their freezer space. Depending on how many you get at a time, you could disguise them in containers and lebel it with your name, if they look, it's on them now ;) **Strider, I would hope you are not feeding dogs pork, it's on the DO NOT feed list**
@@MohamedIbrahimFerozKhan I think the main thing is that the rat is whole, although we do tend to get some meats whole like chicken as well, i think just the fear of rats in general are probably why some people don't feel comfortable being near them.
Watching this with my leopard gecko now. I completely agree with the leopard gecko section, and i have helped take in and re-home a decent bunch of leopard geckos, and i also do leopard gecko “training” with my friends geckos to help calm them down. Love them, I highly suggest getting one too
My beardie loves it when you lay on the couch with him at night, to fall asleep. When he dozes off, I put him inside his hide in the enclosure and turn off his lights, and he sleeps throughout the night until I turn his lights on in the morning. There’s been a few times where I also fell asleep on the couch. Woke up about 4-5 hours later, and he’s still laying on my chest sleeping. Beardies are the absolute best. And he loves going places. Whether it’s to a store, a park, he just loves getting out
My beardie was super easy young then got grumpy as a teenager where he bit me a couple times and was wiggly then went right back to as easy to handle and play with as a sock from the floor.
My son and I fell in love with a baby water dragon at the pet store one day. He loved my son and would follow him from inside his tank and stare into my sons face when he would look closely through the glass at him. It was the sweetest interaction I had ever seen between a reptile and a human. I plan to someday find a baby to take home. I have always loved reptiles and feel a close connection to them.

The pet store I worked at when I was in high school had a bearded dragon that was like that we all loved it and a lot of the time customers thought it was part of our uniform because we had it on our shoulders so much 😆😆😆 it freaked one customer out when it moved to look towards a coworker that walked by me I used to get in trouble for wearing the sand boa like julery before we sold it too 😆😆😆 I also fell even more in love with reptiles than I already was and the "creepy" tarantula more than i already was because none of them bit me like the mice, hamsters, rabbits, or birds did quite frequently 😆😆 heck even the fish would nip when cleaning the tanks because we hand fed them but the way I look at it is you don't get mad at your cat or dog for the occasional playful nip why would you with other pets it's a concept people who don't like reptiles don't understand haha I had a lady give me the most horrified look when I told her I used to feed my leopard gecko by hand my leopard gecko she was so gentle when she fed I basically just place the meal on her teeth for her and she's never once bitten me she also used to walk along the glass or prop herself up on it when she was really hungry or just wanted to be picked up I saw her as my little furless cat I miss her she passed away last summer hope all you wonderful people reading this have a great day 😁😁
That is so cute bro wtf
it will always be wierd to me that its perfectly normal for us as humans to buy and sell animals - other living beings.
@@Rose1312afa True!
You forgot to mention how clean leopard geckos are! I've never had other reptiles who purposefully take their business to one corner of their tank. Makes cleaning their home SO easy!
My leopard gecko takes her business everywhere. I hate cleaning her tank
@@PupIsDead god that’s so weird. both of mine do it, one of which is nearly turning a year old and i’ve had since he was a month old, he’s done it since the time i got him so it has to be an instinct. your gecko is an outlier for sure lol
Mine does the same, too
My leopard gecko only poops in one corner too!

I really loved Diamond's editorial eye glance when you said he was never going to sprout wings or breathe fire. It's like he was saying, "Well, we'll see about that."
Apparently my ball python didn't get the memo of hanging out chilling, he loves to explore when he's out of his enclosure. He gets supervised carpet slither time a couple times a week.
crazy boi eh

Can't really argue about the Beardie being number 1 when Diamond literally sat there for the whole video chillin.

That is a good one
I have a water dragon. The amount of plugs for him alone is insane.

Seeing him go from being scared of me to falling asleep in my shirt is the most rewarding thing ever
thank you for the good reptile care
I can vouch for blue tongue skinks being “Easy to Handle”. I got nibs as a new born and he’s never tried to bite me. He is very huffy though and doesn’t like being touched. He’ll normally hiss at me if I touch him or walk away. But I can pick him up when I need to clean his enclosure and move him somewhere until I’m down. Maybe with some more work he’ll stop hissing.
so great to hear!
I have watched BTS on other channels and they almost all bite anyone that goes into their space, even other BTS.
I Couldnt handle my BTS 😂 he kept hissing and biting me. He has once gotten so much stress from handling that he peed all over the place.

@@Carnidoom probably a wild import but my baby was handled since day 1 from the breeder, Northern Skink, and bites :)
@@cwgrlrish our bearded dragons are the same age now
Great list; this is the kind of thing more people need to see! The only one I’d change is that I’d put chuckwallas over beardies. They have the same kind of size and heartiness, but are often even more gentle and passive.
they are really cool lizards!
Add a subscriber and keep up the good work!
thanks so much for your support!
I can’t.😂❤
Thanks for taking a risk on the one with the “saucy” attitude, otherwise she probably would’ve had a pretty sad fate.
I definitely feel your pain about buying from petsmart/petco/basically any type of box chain pet store…
They’re irresponsible pet stewards, so I always want to save *ALL THE THINGS* from their stores-but sadly, I can’t.
Because I know that would just encourage them to double down on restocking even more of the animals I “saved”…😢
(Well, plus I don’t have the kind of “kiss my ass” money necessary for buying and comfortably housing/caring for every animal in a store lol).
Le sigh.
I really want more of them, they are so cool to watch and just so lovable animals!
adorable!
Hey, nice shirt! Great list! It must have been tough to pare this down to only 5. There are so many great, friendly reptiles to choose from.
Thanks for watching! Nurture all Nature!
i’ve had a corn snake for 20 years and she has been the most chill animal ever. she is quite active when i take her out of her enclosure but she’s never bit me or shown any aggression.

I had a Uromastyx as a teenager for several years and he was absolutely amazing. If they weren’t so hard to find I would have them on this list! Great video!
Diamond crawling up your shoulder is so cute. I love beardies so much lmao
*head-bobbing-banging*
Happy Holidays, Adam! Hope your Christmas was great.
Hi 🥰 I have watched about 5 videos about different types of lizards and reptiles. I love how you've had Diamond on every single one. I'm a first time reptile owner searching for my first lizard. I'm sold on a diamond!! thanks for all your help!

Good luck!!
I have a leopard gecko and a bearded dragon. They are both absolute sweethearts. Absolutely never any sign of aggression.
agreed!
I’m getting my first bearded dragon next week! I’m so excited and so glad I found your channel. ❤
The same as the Siberian Amur snakes (the Korean one isn't).
that's so awesome, I had no idea

I have seen that with almost every video of BTS I have seen.
The latter one was a rescue (handling her was probably the only thing her previous owners got right).
adorable

OMG You finally admitted Diamond is the star of this channel. (I know Diamond humans can be hard to train, good work) lol
i can confirm that bearded dragons are surprisingly durable. i had one who jumped off of my shoulder while i was going down the stairs. he dropped 3 meters onto a hardwood floor and was perfectly fine, just walked off to climb a potted plant like nothing happened. also, yes, they are incredibly easy to handle. zero agression, super chill, good size, just great animals to keep.

Love this list and love Diamond! The ear bites are adorable (cause I'm not the one being bitten lol...sorries) and there's something so relaxing about a snake or lizard that is willing to just chill with you.
100% agree!
I like that you also mention the scientific names. Searching common names in different languages is sometimes time consuming 😉 Thanks!
Those geckos and bearded dragons are badass. If I were to get a reptile as a pet it’ll be one of those.
agreeed
My bearded dragon only squirms when I show him the window- he'll prop himself up and watch the world go by :)
Used to hold wild garters a lot as a kid lol they just wait for you to leave, very docile.
@@somerandomperson6511 out of 100s of garter snakes iv caught in my life only been bitten a few times and it was usually a monster garter.
I’ve had my crestie for 3 years now and have never been bit or anywhere close. They are wonderful starter reptiles for sure. I think they are less work than leopard geckos too because they don’t require heat lamps or anything
I own a beardie and I can confirm, she is just the sweetest thing
adorable
Adam, could you please do a informational video on the different and difference between species. Boa, python , milk, garter etc.
alreayd done python vs boa if you wanna watch :)
I was thinking as groups, what features determine why a snake is classified as a viper, or a colub, or Boa etc. I think it would be interesting.
Ive had my Ball Python for just over a year now and hes NEVER tried to strike or me AT ALL!! 😊. Hes the goodest boi!! Love him so much!!
I met an adult bearded dragon at a pet shop years ago. The owner took him out and let me carry him around the store. He put his belly on my forearm, hung his legs and tail over the sides, and went to sleep pretty quick. Once he warmed up I almost forgot he was there. Would've walked right out of there if I hadn't seen his empty enclosure by the door.
really cool eh!
Your enclosures look really good , the plants make a huge difference. I'll bet that the reptiles like them too.
for sure!
20 seconds early already know its going to be great like always!
woooooooooo
holding them is my favorite thing about both of my lizards. the crestie is pretty much a therapy lizard bc she cant climb anymore and doesn't jump and the Leo is just fun to have walk around my arm or my hands.
Yeah, beardies really are the best. I may not have one myself, but one of my friends does, and whenever I come over, I can't go without holding her bearded dragon.
I agree!

thank you!
Leos are goofy and hilarious
Like the new intro man. Really like this video bring me back to the old days when I was working at the pets shops carrying around bearded dragons on my shirt while I was cleaning they're enclosures. Love the skinks names to.
Classic!
I would've expected tortoises to make their list. From my experience, they're definitely one of the friendlier reptiles! And personally I don't think leopard geckos would fit this list. Personally, I find them a little too fragile, and from my experience leopard geckos always try to run away while being handled. Nice video overall though!
Their lifespan is probably the downside
@@sleepyninjarin7971 lifespan is a downside for owning them, but is irrelevant to choosing what animals belong in a video on friendly reptiles.
Leopard geckos are literally the best gecko and they don't run once they are very used to see to you
with the blue tongue skink i live in north texas so it's humid and hot in the summer
that's awesome!
Watching this reminded me how much I miss handling reptiles but, at the same time I know I dont have the space in my life for them.....bittersweet
one day!
I'd guess so. Domestication doesn't have to be intentional.
HAHAHAHA! amazing!
I think you're kinda awesome for that! lol I did that the other day when mine wrapped around my foot lol
I love torties!
That's a drawback to every snake, and it's not a big deal, you feed your snake rats like you feed your dog pork and beef
Love them, I highly suggest getting one too
I love Leos!
"nothing is a throwaway animal just because it doesn't cost a lot of money" if only more people knew this
bingo!
Thanks , you helped me decide to get the Dragon. Great video.
Good choice!
Blue-tongued skinks, or skinks generally are crazy looking lizards. They are so fishlike in their body shape.
FOR SURE
Just recommend your channel to my brother he’ll love it he loves reptiles and amphibians.
hey thanks!
I have always loved reptiles and feel a close connection to them.
very cool!
