I don’t know why the care guide does poorly. My 9 year old daughter has been saving up to get a leopard gecko because of watching your old care guide. She has saved up and watched all she could and research at the library.

I adopted a leopard gecko from my local rescue and she’s the sweetest baby ever. Maybe a full grown gecko would be nice for a child, little lower maintenance etc compared to at least in my experience a baby leo. I don’t know just food for thought.

You’re killing it bro. We’re similar age and I was the weird reptile kid in school too, and only had what my mom let me/funded me and now that I’m living on my own I’m finally almost done my first reptile shelf/wall. The newest addition is a baby dumerils and although she’s being picky right now, she’s gorgeous. My hognose is by far my favourite, she’s so sassy but also gentle. You’re an inspiration man, from another fellow millennial, weird reptile kid from Ontario. 🤙🏻

My cornsnake is definitely squirmy to handle and never stops moving, however he's tame as can be and has never struck or shown any defensive behaviour. Which is surprising given he's a wild rescue (he stowed away on a shipment of plants up to Canada so I ended up taking him in when he was found).

    • @gah1000k
      @gah1000k 2 роки тому +7

Ya, my cornsnake can be squirmy. Easy to handle and never have struck at me. I find them similar to Kings but dont have to worry about accidental bites. Also, very inquisitive. Surprised corns were below Kings and hognose. My hognose can be defensive and have had a bite.

I liked the video. Of course the rating changes based on your personal experience. My uromastyx is shy too. Some days he is cool with me, others nope. As for the Dumpy's Tree Frogs, a few of mine are about as nuts as your Schneider Skinks.

I love seeing what other people have. I recently got a yellow spotted climbing toad over the summer, and he quickly rose to the ranks of my easiest and funniest pets. And recently, my 3 White's tree frogs started "singing" at night, and my toad joins them but he's a juvie still and squeaks like a dog's toy. It's really funny.

You should do a tier list of the animals that are commonly sold at big-box pet stores like Petco, PetSmart, etc. (I know well all hate these stores, but these are where people are oftentimes buying animals, and they generally push animals that aren't behinner friendly)

That is so weird, in my case, the Uromastyx would have been right up there with the Bearded Dragon, I had a few and they were just as docile and handleable as the beardies, just had to keep them hot was all. Great list and I actually enjoyed hearing your opinions on care, temperament and overall experience. We are experiencing the hunger strike situation that makes ball pythons so fun 🙄 habit checks out as far as humidity/heat and hides, he’s just kind of new to our home and wants live lunch like at his previous home but we really want to get him switched over to f/t for obvious reasons. The spotted pythons sound amazing 🤩 not sure if you’ve done a care guide for them yet but yeah, great list and hope you do another. Would love to see if anything changes position on the list.

I really enjoyed this ranking video. I think it's the most "practical" ranking list I've seen. You simply explain why you they ranked them against each other the way you did and in a way that people can really understand and use ("He bites. He just sits. She's cranky. They're easy to care for..."). Most lists are either too generic or mash too much together to result in a useless final score. (ie - cost or availability is interesting, but in the end, does not really matter all that much and artificially affects their over all score or rank to something that doesn't in the end tell me the basics). In the end, we want to know: do you enjoy the animal and why or why not? (And in THAT light, care, friendliness, activity level, etc. means something. )
    This list did it perfectly!

Excellent video as always, Adam! Was bummed to see you gave Milksnakes a C but I understand these rating are based on your experience with your pets. Plus you have much more experience than me! My only reptile is a Honduran Milksnake and he has been a joy since day 1!
Your rating of an S for the Schneider skinks REALLY caught my attention. I know nothing about them but I’ve been looking for a lizard, and have been eyeing blue tongues for a while, but the much smaller size of the Schneider skink is attractive as I assume they will need much less space than a BT!

With aquatic animals, a lot can be solved by just doing water changes. A lot of the equipment and technology out there is to just help put off water changes. Once the filter media is cycled, just do your water changes, and you're fine.

Kinda breaks my heart that at 15 minutes hearin' things like "thanks for sticking with me; we're almost done". Man, I love that longform stuff.
On which note, if you could ever find yourself doing longer essays on reptiles and raising them, maybe putting that stuff on a separate channel, I'd certainly be here for it.
Dumpy frog care vid soon, I hope; getting mine in three weeks!

My corn snake is really active for the he first few mins out of the tank then just chills out and sits draped on my shoulders or loose around my neck. I'm the 3rd owner and he is somewhere in the 15-17 year range now, but was still really chill when I got him 10 years ago. Never had him as a baby so maybe that's why

Loved this video! I don’t understand why the care guides don’t do well. 🤨

I have a ball python and a California kingsnake, and I prefer my kingsnake for the exact opposite opinion mentioned in the video. I like that I rarely have to worry if she will eat, and she's curious. She's my little explorer. She gets into everything wanting to know what everything is, and I find that more interesting than my ball python. He's so chill. He gets "outside cage time" and I never have to find him because he will be in one of two spots and doesn't move, or explore. He's "boring", but I still love him.

    Super cool video! Great job!
I only have 1 snake and it’s a corn snake but she is not the best ahah.
I would love to get a ball Python and a milk snake.

I love my ball python, so far self managed, since we got him he struck at me a few times before shedding, but right after now fully social to the point of coming out of tub to your hand. I haven't yet had to deal with feeding issues as he eats 2 times a week. BUT I bought a baby corn snake who a week later in trying to handle it bit me and squirmed out of my fingers and is now roaming my Basement. Too tiny to find as of yet. I give this snake a F on cost, and handling. Paid 90 for corn snake, and 70 for ball python.

Oh no! I hope you find it/it's ok. I bought a baby corn and I heard they're really flighty especially while young and they need a lot of handling training. I guess they're hit or miss. Mine's a little over a year old now and doing great and hasn't struck at me.

I put the cornsnake on the A, maybe S too (mine is a super chill one, never bite while he was on shading state neither) and dartfrogs... I put them on the B or C rank for the diet and the high huminity needs. Cornsnakes has easy avalable diet and not really huminity needs, and you could handle them too (I mean frogs are anfibians so you can' t handle them)... But of course it's your list. :) :)

As much as i love my CRB i'd probably agree with the C rating. Mine's fine with handling as long as he's not in shed but the care requirements are way different than anything else i own. I live in the desert so keeping humidity up was a challenge at first and maintaining it is definitely more involved than any other snake I own.

Ive been out of the hobby for over a decade, but my uromastyx were really some of my favorite reptiles. Mine were personable, handle-able, and just all around some of the best terrestrial lizards I have owned. Better than my bearded dragons. I lived in Houston when I owned them and never had an issue with too much humidity.

there was a point where i didn't agree with you on rainbow boa requirements since im a huge BRB enthusiast, these things seemed easy enough to me. Now that they're becoming popular because of their appearance, i see people screwing up the most simple of requirements with them. So easy to me, but i guess it doesn't click for some people.

When making the tear lest, not the animal in general but like in your collection pacifically, rate your favorite pet and lest favorite pet, by how much your attached to them. Like diamond would be at the top because she is always with you.
