I took plenty of finance & banking classes & inflation seems much more complicated than a simple formula as there are times of rapid & slow increase some places being immune to it as well as other factors. #1 was absurdly overpriced even if inflation were completely nonexistent. I'm curious what you think of GameCube's story I got it because it was affordable at only $199 back then which is probably $300 now & the game selection was great. Now people are paying 4-5x normal prices because they missed out on what may as well have been the Vangogh of Game Consoles.

As someone who plays games via RetroAchievements nowadays, I learned that Virtual Boy emulation allows for color change, meaning you don't have to strain your eyes playing them~. I also found some of the games to be pretty fun to unwind with, such as Panic Bomber, Mario's Clash (which I prefer over OG Mario Bros), and Virtual Boy Wario Land~.
It's just that the Virtual Boy itself used a crappy gimmick that burned your fucking eyes out and did not have the games entirely secured so mid play, if you dislodged the cart, the game turns off. Also that unwieldly case.
Moral of the story: don't ever buy consoles that have ''Expansion'' modules. I was a bit surprised the Atari Lynx wasn't mentioned in this but still, good list.
It'll cost you a lung and a kidney along with half a liver just to have that, or high grade parts for a beefy PC that's on the same price as a pre built gaming tower. Eeyup, did the math and the LaserActive, modules AND just ONE game alone is worth almost $5K by themselves!
Another shot against the N-Gage: You also need to play a phone subsciption on top of the console. And to switch games, you need to open the damn thing and remove the batteries in order to remove the cartridge.

The key pad was rarely helpful but the controller was fine otherwise. I told Josh, I got something you probably been wanting to try. I reached into my bag and pulled out my Virtual Boy and half the games. And he Lost it. He was gonna finally try this system. I took footage of him playing it and his verdict was as what he said in this video. He can see Why it failed. But it's really not THAT bad.

So, here's a little anecdote: My 7th-grade science teacher actually had a LaserDisc player. It wasn't a LaserActive (thank the Twelve), but she used it at one point for visual purposes for a day of group projects. I was actually really intrigued by the project in question (recovering four malfunctioning space probes from various points in the solar system), and have spent a long time since wondering if there's a way to get ahold of that particular disc and project for my own perusal. That said... I'm not paying $6K just to find out!

Best part with the Nuno is that it had 4 different controllers and not all games were compatible with all controllers. It was even region locked with only one game for the PAL region starring Crayon Shin-chan.

To be even more fair to the Virtual Boy, (and to its designer, Gunpei Yokoi) it wasn't actually finished. To get it out for a holiday release, Nintendo higher-ups cut development off at a prototype stage. This led to Yokoi being basically laughed out of the company, despite his many, many contributions. These include the Game & Watch, the Game Boy, and also the fucking D-Pad. I personally think the Vboy deserves to be higher here because of all the horseshit involved in its development.
The 3DO always made me laugh because I got one second hand in 2002 for about $50 from my local game store. Hilarious about that price drop. Although I will say I got one of the later models that did not look like a VHS player. It kind of looked like a Sega CD. Well, looks like a Sega CD because I've still got it. I still enjoy Star Control 2 on it every once in a while.
One year later and this is still one of my favourite countdowns from you in recent memory. Great work! And aren't we glad that PS5 games aren't as expensive as Laseractive's were back in the 1990's.
The funniest part about the LaserActive is that its discs, the LaserDisc format, were ALSO notorious for being extremely expensive compared to other film formats like CD. According to the Wikipedia, the biggest issue with their pricing was the price of the LD players themselves. So the Laseractive basically shot itself in the foot by INSISTING on using Laserdisc for its games when CD was already thriving, turning what would've been a relatively run-of-the-mill system into a money-sink that not even the most insane individuals would want to invest in!
So, yeah my family owns number 1 on the list. I actually remember having gotten into gaming with a NES and this thing. Even watched Rocky and Bullwinkle for the first time on it. The only thing I knew is that my Dad got it a a very discounted price and yes even got the Genesis module with it. This is what got me into almost everything I like. To think the hell that came with something like that, a system with expensive everything at base and with everything wrong with 90's gaming in general added on to it literally with an added fee for each. Just, WOW!
Well, the Stadia part didn't age well considering Google has now killed off any support for the thing alongside announcing Stadia will permanently shut down next year, and are even partially using Microsoft's acquisition of Zenimax as a scapegoat for the Stadia's failure; I wish I was kidding.
Wii U being only a dishonorable mention is fine but its not even that bad, it was marketed poorly and has alot to give and a lot to offer with a lot going for it, but its not a bad system, just alot of bad marketing and a poor reputation
Fun fact: One time a few years ago, I found a Nuon game at a garage sale. Curious and not knowing what Nuon was, I stupidly bought it. I must have thought it was some sort of PC game or something. But when I did research on what the Nuon was, I was sorely disappointed, and we got rid of it.
The one good thing I’ll give the Sega CD credit for is that at least it’s version of Sonic CD had the vocal version of the Japanese opening and ending songs.

The 3DO was a good idea that was not executed correctly. The concept was to be able to insert a DISC and have it play much like your 8-Track player where you could have a video that played and was affected by choices. Dragon's Lair being a classic example. Unfortunately outside of "Digital Picture" games for the 3DO, they did not go this route and instead released subpar games that even Super Nintendo could do a better job on with only a few exceptions.

Honestly the Laseractive sounds intriguing with the modules connecting to Sega Genesis/CD and Turbografx 16 stuff. The price tag is ludicrous but it is still intriguing. If I find it at an affordable price, (unlikely) I’ll check it out!

I remember hearing that the PS5 broke the Switch's 33 month streak as best selling console, and just wondering how. Because I've genuinely only seen ONE out there in the wild. And then I remembered Scalpers, and it all made sense.
Regarding the Stadia: Google doesn't _universally_ pull the plug on unprofitable services. UA-cam for example they intentionally run _at a net loss_ to their overall company's bottom line in order to muscle out any potential competition in the video streaming market. It's hard for a for-profit website to compete with a free service offered at a loss by another company, particularly when said other company has the most popular search engine and can favor itself in search results or hide the entire website of the competitor if it so chooses. They _could_ be running the Stadia at a loss as well in hopes of muscling out the "games as service" industry.
I had a friend back when I was a kid who had a Laser Active console. His mom was a single parent who worked a lot, so him and his sister were spoiled. But they were very nice kids

I'm glad the Wii U isn't on this list. Everyone puts it on their "worst consoles" list just because it didn't sell well, but I loved mine. (May it rest peacefully.) @@robbiedoblin I still have my Jaguar (although I also have and love the Wii U). I stopped the video when he ranted about the Jaguar controller. That just screamed, "I'm just regurgitating AVGN!" The key pad was rarely helpful but the controller was fine otherwise. I was in college when I got my Jag, so my friends played it a lot, and I don't once remember hearing anyone say, "Oh, this controller is just too big, I can't handle it's girth!"

Funny Story. I actually own a Virtual Boy and brought it with me to EverFree NW 2017. Josh, myself, and a few others were doing an escape room (Remember how Difficult that thing was Josh)? I told Josh, I got something you probably been wanting to try. I reached into my bag and pulled out my Virtual Boy and half the games. And he Lost it. He was gonna finally try this system. I took footage of him playing it and his verdict was as what he said in this video. He can see Why it failed. But it's really not THAT bad.

12:38 You know a console is bad when Rascal Racers is one of those few games. Actually, it's Merlin Racing, but because Rascal Racers is basically an asset flip of that game (same developer, though) I had to do a bit of research to find out which game it really was.
So, here's a little anecdote: My 7th-grade science teacher actually had a LaserDisc player. It wasn't a LaserActive (thank the Twelve), but she used it at one point for visual purposes for a day of group projects. I was actually really intrigued by the project in question (recovering four malfunctioning space probes from various points in the solar system), and have spent a long time since wondering if there's a way to get ahold of that particular disc and project for my own perusal.
That said... I'm not paying $6K just to find out!

In all honesty, it's s a horrible console: uses cartridges, it's a bulky portable, there are few units available, requires a freaking SURGERY to use and all the games involve getting tangled in physical fight with viruses. Hard Pass.

To be even more fair to the Virtual Boy, (and to its designer, Gunpei Yokoi) it wasn't actually finished. To get it out for a holiday release, Nintendo higher-ups cut development off at a prototype stage. This led to Yokoi being basically laughed out of the company, despite his many, many contributions. These include the Game & Watch, the Game Boy, and also the fucking D-Pad. I personally think the Vboy deserves to be higher here because of all the horseshit involved in its development.
The 3DO always made me laugh because I got one second hand in 2002 for about $50 from my local game store. Hilarious about that price drop. Although I will say I got one of the later models that did not look like a VHS player. It kind of looked like a Sega CD. Well, looks like a Sega CD because I've still got it. I still enjoy Star Control 2 on it every once in a while.

The funniest part about the LaserActive is that its discs, the LaserDisc format, were ALSO notorious for being extremely expensive compared to other film formats like CD. According to the Wikipedia, the biggest issue with their pricing was the price of the LD players themselves.
So the Laseractive basically shot itself in the foot by INSISTING on using Laserdisc for its games when CD was already thriving, turning what would've been a relatively run-of-the-mill system into a money-sink that not even the most insane individuals would want to invest in!
So, yeah my family owns number 1 on the list. I actually remember having gotten into gaming with a NES and this thing. Even watched Rocky and Bullwinkle for the first time on it. The only thing I knew is that my Dad got it a a very discounted price and yes even got the Genesis module with it. This is what got me into almost everything I like. To think the hell that came with something like that, a system with expensive everything at base and with everything wrong with 90's gaming in general added on to it literally with an added fee for each. Just, WOW!

Fun fact: One time a few years ago, I found a Nuon game at a garage sale. Curious and not knowing what Nuon was, I stupidly bought it. I must have thought it was some sort of PC game or something. But when I did research on what the Nuon was, I was sorely disappointed, and we got rid of it.
The one good thing I’ll give the Sega CD credit for is that at least it’s version of Sonic CD had the vocal version of the Japanese opening and ending songs.
and it also had (at that time) the best Batman game on any console in Batman Returns for it's fun driving stages and awesome soundtrack.

The 3DO was a good idea that was not executed correctly. The concept was to be able to insert a DISC and have it play much like your 8-Track player where you could have a video that played and was affected by choices. Dragon's Lair being a classic example.
Unfortunately outside of "Digital Picture" games for the 3DO, they did not go this route and instead released subpar games that even Super Nintendo could do a better job on with only a few exceptions.

I'm surprised the RDI Halcyon wasn't even mentioned. It had only two subpar games, a microphone that hardly worked and kept people from making the decisions they wanted, and costed $2000 in 1985.

Regarding the Stadia: Google doesn't _universally_ pull the plug on unprofitable services. UA-cam for example they intentionally run _at a net loss_ to their overall company's bottom line in order to muscle out any potential competition in the video streaming market. It's hard for a for-profit website to compete with a free service offered at a loss by another company, particularly when said other company has the most popular search engine and can favor itself in search results or hide the entire website of the competitor if it so chooses. They _could_ be running the Stadia at a loss as well in hopes of muscling out the "games as service" industry.
I had a friend back when I was a kid who had a Laser Active console. His mom was a single parent who worked a lot, so him and his sister were spoiled. But they were very nice kids
