- Welcome to my MCC Legendary Speedrun Guides! Today we're tackling "Cortana" from Halo 3 (Master Chief Collection).
My goal with this series is to help everyone complete every Halo game on Legendary difficulty using the latest speedrunning tips and tricks. If you have any questions or I forgot to explain something in the video, please ask in the comments and I'll do my best to answer!

It's like when they were designing this level, someone at Bungie said, "I've got an idea; let's take the worst parts from The Library, apply them to Gravemind, crank them up to eleven, make it as claustrophobic as The Pillar of Autumn, make the terrain anti-geometric and unlevel just to make it extra disorienting and so the sniping pure form Flood have a dozen different angles to gun down the player from like it's _Gunfight at the O.K Corral,_ then add our brilliant, convoluted, 'we're so secretive and mysterious, tee-hee' flashes from Gravemind and Cortana in between *literally every single room* that slow the player down to an unskippable crawl just to spite those damn speed runners. I'm a genius!"
Shortly after the release of Halo 3, that person was then hung by their entails and their corpse paraded through the city.
Their body mutilated beyond recognition.
I like this mission, it scared me as a kid, is full of story, and feels badass as hell when it is so chlostrophobic and unrelenting and your ammo is getting low and cortana says she sees a freindly ping... bro cortanas a great mission, halo 3 was lit. And only reason the library is so painful is its ridiculously long and repetitive
the cortana stuff made halo 3 the worst of all halos in my opinion i even hate it more than 4 and 5, it was a great story when played for the first time, but gives me absolute cancer since then, dumbest design decision ever made by bungie

I knew when I had to do this mission on legendary I needed to find a guide. Thank goodness I did, this guide made this mission actually pretty easy. So I thank you sir

You can slide jump off the broken wall/platform immediately after the cortana room.
I'm not a speed runner but while running that mission I can always hit it. I'm sure with a plasma too you could get a good hammer launch

I was there for that stream. You gave up eventually and did full game runs. Now here's the video :D
Rising up back on the speed run did my tries and I took my chances, went the jumps now I am back on my controller. just a gamer and his will to run. so many times it happens to fast, when you trade your Grind to a restart. don't lose your grip on the box launch of the past. you must run to keep them alive! it is the eye of the cortana, it is the thrill of the box launch. rising up to the record of legato. and the last known speed runner grinds a level through the night and he is watching us all with the eye of the cortana!

So, if what you said about how many seconds you lost was accurate, using this guide's trick you can get 6:40 as a maximum.
Or would it be minimum?
6:40 is the best time.

Halo 3 has been the worst fucking campaign for legendary I wanna burn the game and now this level makes me wanna go back in time and stop it in production

Thought I’d try speedrunning my way out, mix things up a little
The thing that really kills this level for me is the nonstop application of Cortana moments. Nothing says 'unfun' like being forced to stop for 5-10 seconds so someone can babble some cryptic nonsense, and this level has ELEVEN of these things. All the other missions combined share thirteen between them, and half of those (Crow's Nest) are only 2-3 seconds tops. The rest of this level's problems can be circumvented by being patient and using the right weapons and tricks (Brute Shot DESTROYS Ranged Forms). The fact that multiple people thought up and programmed this gimmick, then said 'Yes, this is exactly what the players will enjoy!' simply boggles the mind.
If you die in the pelican room you have to listen to cortana sobbing every time you reload the checkpoint. When learning the speedrun, I must have heard her sobbing like 50 times and it gets weird when anyone else in the house hears a woman crying in the basement every 30 seconds for 20 minutes

3:10 - Is it just me, or does this brute shot jump seem impossible?
Tried it about 30 times, didn't get it once. Typed this. Tried it a 31st time, got it :P Standard
Yeah it's really hard.
In super late but yeah, it’s insanely hard. I attempted it on heroic and it took me many tries, never got it. I ended up just fighting all the enemies in the end. Took me maybe 3 minutes to clear the area
@@PNW_Chemist i tried to do it on legendary but i kept getting shot by the spiders when i finally got to the top so i just decided to use a sword
I remember beating this on legendary. The terror, the frustration, the confusion. Then I see you do this in less time than it took me for one room. Ive never played this mission a second time and I never will.
imo this is the worst mission in all of the halo games
on legendary, that is.

this is actually a very easy mission compared to the ark or the covenant imo
but those missions are fun
i really hate this mission, mostly because of cortana and gravemind moments.They are so annoying, when i want to play just for fun i never play this mission.
Actually i played this mission only 2 times in my whole life, the first when i played it for the first time and second when i wanted to do it on legendary.
+MAST3R DRON3 Do you have any tips for when I beat it on legendary? speed past everyone or fight?
***** Every time i play halo campaign, i play on legendary and fight every enemy, but thats becasue i am really good.
I just beat halo 4 on legendary took me about a week, knights are so fucking frustrating. I'm not at all worried about any level besides cortana. I just remember playing it 8 years ago on normal and getting really pissed off lol
I tried this in legendary. I felt like a little baby as I poorly tried to damage something.
2:32 behold as eli magically pulls a camouflage out of his ass. Its not there for me
AHTheCat They spawn in random parts of the room. First time i played it was on a platform near the Tilt Skull then when i finished on legendary it was where eli picked it
He got it earlier in the mission, dropped it for a bubble shield that was there, used the shield and immediately picked the camo back up
He got it when he did the box jump and switched quickly to his sword and got it as he killed a flood
You used to be able to take all the time you wanted to finish legendary, now thanks to these bullshit speedrun achievements youre now forced to rush as well.

My least favourite mission in all of Halo. Just rage quit after getting to almost the end of the mission then dying, and a glitch sent me back about five checkpoints 🤬
Tried for like 20 mins to do that last brute shot jump, turns out it saves like 10-20 seconds. Just use camo like he does and run on by if you're not going for records
I did similar. Especially since the 2 checkpoints before took me way too long
I love how you spoke so casually about the box launch, we saw how many attempts it took to get that just right when you were streaming.
He also said it was the hardest box jump in the series
So The Cutscenes themselves I don’t really mind because The Voice Acting and Sound Effects are top tier here and really play into the horror of the floods.
My problem is when your mid combat and these start playing.
You guys should really watch his streams lol. He acts way different from these videos. Plus its fun watching him speed run
I like that he is trying to teach us to speed run on legenday telling us where he lost time and we can save that time .(as if we can do it XD)

I speedran it in 36min beat this. I don't even aim for sub 3h campagne ... riddiculous
I'm trying to get the legends achievement and I'm just having a hard time getting past this mission. All the missions so far and other games were fairly easy but this one's just been a pain. Great job thanks for the tips

Idk if it's because MCC but I basically just walked through the level. Had to fight in a few areas but got it done in 30 minutes.
So are you still going to go for the sub 7 run right away? Or finish the guide first?
Will still be attempting WR sub-6:54. Didn't do all that practice for nothing!
Looking forward to seeing your stream. Maybe you can even pull the cortana skip off. I feel like even the easy WR had the possibility of around 5 secs of optimization. There were a few wall bumps in it here and there and the reactor room launch wasn't super clean. So maybe you can pull of a a 6:40 :D

3:35 That bit would have been so much easier if I had known that there was a camo there when I was doing it on legendary...
The camo spawns in random spots one person said but I don't really know though.
I always want to speed run so I don’t have to deal with stuff but I always resort to just “kill everything “

Of all the campaigns, Halo 3 on Legendary is the easiest.
Bungie botched the brutes in this game too easy
The engine room part where you have to destroy those things, you were right, I did get more consistent but it still too a while. Also the fact that right after that kinda miniboss style part is another part of parkour and there is no checkpoint for a bit after that as well, It made it sooooo tough to get past.
This is fucking stupid i did this the otger day after ages of trying but it didnt save it because of some stupid fucking xbox issue and now i have to redo the mission and i cant do that fucking jump at 3:09 ish because i keep getting knocked about so i restart and i cant even get to there because for some reason i keep getting ranged forms in the hell's corridor section and its the stupidest most annoying mission in the game but i need to complete it as i only got that and the one after to do on legendary (but then still halo 1 and 2 for helioskrill) and i dont know how im gunna complete this mission again but i shouldnt even frickin have to
+Lewis Don't play Halo if you can't handle Legendary. Go back to Club Penguin.
+Halo Master omg thank you so much for the advice man!!! What a brilliant idea that anyone who finds one of the hardest things in the franchise hard should never play it again!! Doesn't matter that im a pvp player and a forger, i found it hard to do some pve on legendary on one of the hardest missions so I obviously dont deserve to be part of this wonderful, loving community you want to have where halo gets no sales and ends up dying in a hole for all eternity. this made the level so much easier on legendary, before this map would take atleast an hour and a half dying over and over lmao
