I just took this 33mm f1.4 out for a first test run today. It's excellent. The fast continuous autofocus is working great (combined with my X-T5 camera with its all-important firmware update). Seems very sharp too. I bought it to provide a good low light alternative to my beloved 16-55 f2.8, but I'm also loving the little things like how the 33mm doesn't stick out as much - so doesn't feel like it's going to get bashed when I'm moving through crowds. I was afraid that 33mm on a crop sensor would be too tight for street photography, but it definitely isn't for mine. I still found myself having to walk in quite close. I think it'll be more challenging to use than some shorter focal length Fuji lenses, for street photography, as it lacks the immediate wow factor of their distortion and ability to keep all the background in-shot. But I think that's exciting, as the 33mm has to work harder to decide what to include or exclude from a shot. I'd still like using 16mm or 18mm capability on a separate lens for some 'fancy' close-in shots, but otherwise this 33mm gives me almost everything.
I have reviewed and used over 200 different lenses already and this is, sharpness wise, below what many other brands are doing now. It is still sharp, just not pin sharp in m y opinion
@@thomasmook not yet. I have everything ready to go live but I need to do some tests for payment system but there isn't enough hours in a day. I'll do it after Christmas
Interesting. I suppose copy to copy must be different. Mine is ridiculously sharp. So sharp, I sometimes put a 1/8 black mist on it. It's very close to the sharpness of the XF 90mm f2. One of the best Fuji lenses out there.
hey great video! Is this video shot on the xs20? The shots with the flower for example look really sharp, was wondering if it is a high mp sensor or the xs20. Thanks!
@@mr_greg3875 maybe. That will depend on the camera and how you use it. Generally speaking, brand own lenses usually work better overall but not always
@@PavSZ i have the Sigma 30, yes it's sharp enough but I I don't think that it's sharper than the Fuji 33. The most annoying thing about the Sigma 30 is that it has no aperture dial but the price is almost 1/3 of this 33 so it's a much better purchase value
Are you shure with the topic sharpness? The XF33 is one of my sharpest lenses on my X-T5 with the 40 MP Sensor. Even the very good XF90 can't match up. The lens that can reach this absolute outstanding performance is the new XF56 R WR (version 2) . But it can't surpass. It can only match this amazing results. Have you set your High ISO NR to -4? Fujifilm bodies have this terrible NR Reduction that softens images up too much even at 0. Obviously you will get the full brunt of noise at -4, but at 0 it really dulls out sharp lenses.
I got this lens now and it makes quite some noise, if i move the lens in my hand. I put it on the camera and the noise from movement stopped. Then i put it off the camera again and the noise was there again, but much less than before. If i look from the back into the lense i can see the inner part moving according how i hold my hand. Is this “behavior” normal with that lens?
@@PavSZ I think something with the software went wrong, so the focusing motor wasn’t locked. I am sure such a “play” of the focusing motor could destroy the lens. But now its alright again. Its still makes noise - more noise than other lenses - if i move the lens, but it doesn’t sound anymore like it could destroy a lens. Thank you for the answer.
Got the XF 33mm today for my X-S20, which came with the cheap lense. Day and night difference. The standard lense (15-45mm) was giving me very average pictures quality. I should have ordered the body only initially + the XF 33mm instead. Oh well, live and learn 🙂
Definitely better than the kit 15-45. I got my X-S20 with 18-55 f2.8/f4 and I am very happy with it. One of the better kit lenses out there. This 33mm is a solid little prime
Haha: I wonder why everyone is still comparing focal lengths with analogue 35mm filmcamera's. That used to be a standard. But I have not shot that in 20 years or so.....For fuji it's more usefull to compare it with medium format, as they don't sell fullframe.
how did you come to the conclusion that I am shooting with XT-5? I never said that. Also the mega pixel count has got nothing to do with how sharp the lens is
