This was an impressive video! You had everything that I needed to know about my new plant. Well thought out and well organized. Thank you for the knowledge!
I bought one of these about December, and it’d now April. I left the box outside (I live 8b) and noticed vines coming out of the box. This dude has vines 5’ tall. It was a large (like… 10” around) plant.
This is one of my favorite plants. I keep mine in an Ikea cabinet and it sits right under the growlight lol it's grown really bushy & compact. With all light it's getting the leaves have developed a red rim along the edges! Definitely recommend playing with amount of light exposure to see how it affects the growth 😊
@@GoodGrowing I have the lights on for 14 hrs each day. I know growlights can be different intensities so maybe try gradually increasing the exposure to avoid shocking & burning leaves? Please share updates on how it goes 😊
Another great video 🎉 Love caudex plants 😍 I keep my Phyllanthus Mirabilis in pon and it really, really loves it! ☺️ I don’t know if it is the same for the Stephania, but mine didn’t really mind lower(40-50%) humidity. It has given me crazy good growth ☺️
Thanks! So I've since moved mine to a brighter spot but with less humidity (40-50%) and it's actually growing so much more compact now, so I guess they don't mind that much 🤷🏻♀️
Thank you for this video! There are so few vids about Stephania erecta and it's mostly on getting it to sprout. I was lucky to get one that already had leaves so I've needed a general care video
Hello! your care video is very good but I would urge you to inform your self about the source of this plant. Because this plant is pretty much always poched fom the wild in Thailand. I do not blame you because this is not so common knowledge, but it would be really cool if you informed others about this!
My caudex took about 2 months to sprout, i think i was overly carefull and under wattered it. 2 or 3 weeks ago i started watering it a bit more often and this week she finally started to grow. I also bought a full plant with multiple stems and she is doing great, i had a few baby leaves yellow after i repotted it in my own chunky mix but soon after she bounced back. The big Stephania is sitting in household humidity (35 to 50%) and it seems ok. I am a bit sad that she will loose the leaves , they are so adorable!
yeah patience really is key with these, and keeping them oddly moist but not too wet 🙃 yay balances! I'm always so tempted when I see beautiful branchy bushy ones but I have to remind myself that they will die back in autumn 😬
Hello! I was wondering if you might know how to make the caudex more plump and healthy? I had my stephania for 3-4 years now, and it has two sunken areas presumably from some sort of internal rot (?) so I guess that part can't be fixed... but while the caudex is really ugly and small it sprouts more abundant stems/leaves each year. Unfortunately, two years in a row the stems broke just before leafing - this year the stem was 20% attached and somehow survived, though the leaves stay teeny tiny and die early. I was wondering if photosynthesis from the leaves are the main thing that makes the caudex healthy, and if my caudex is so shrunken and sad because it didn't get that properly for the last 2 years?
I live next to Thailand so the weather here is high humidity and hot with bright sun the whole year round ( unless there is a thunderstorm ). Wondering if it will go dormant as we do not have 4 seasons here
so I got mine and planted it but the vines and leaves are coming out from the sides, looks healthy the question is is it possible I planted it upside down??
I just got my first stephania here in winter in January in Ohio (America). Is it going to be dorment till spring? What should I do with it in the meantime?
I've not tried keeping it within the cabinet come autumn time. but I think my cabinet is slightly too dark for it's liking soooo 🤷♀ and I think it has roots but I've not pulled it out of the soil since I potted it
@@GoodGrowing I got mine in the spring and it has been a bit tricky lol No roots(the whole time), finally pushed out a stem, then produced teeny flowers, then tiny leaves, dropped the leaves and grew longer stem with more tiny leaves but no mature leaves yet. I've moved it to try and give it what it wants light/humidity wise but I haven't nailed it yet🤔🤷♀️
@@joannanovara815 yeah I defo had no idea what I was doing the first time and it wasn't the prettiest of plants, but the good thing is you get to try again and again :)
You know I’m not sure. I’ve not really noticed roots when I’ve had mine before 😅 but if I did, id probably cut them off when I take it out of the pot at the end of the season
My Stephanias were wilted by strong direct sun light, And some buds turned brown(looks completely dried). Now I’m waiting for new buds come up, but no moving for 2 weeks so far. Can I still wait or should I do anything or my Stephanias are died?😭😭

Best thoroughly video I've seen for this plant

Yours sounds ideal! How long are your grow lights on each day? I'm tempted to put mine on for longer tbh...

Great video! Very helpful! I just got one that already has a tiny vine. I hope I can keep it happy 💚

This was awesome!!!! I’ve been curious about this plant, but didn’t know enough about it to get one. This is so helpful!
Thank you for sharing! 💜💚🪴🌵
Go get one! They're super fun! :) glad to inspire
Wow, thanks so much for the info , you've been so helpful.
Thanks again 😊
Bought one last month, so I'm very thankful for sharing your experience😊 hoping for video about christia obcordata - that one isn't that easy (for me)
glad I could help! Ooh I've not had one of them before! but if I ever do get one, I'll defo make a video on them :) thanks for the suggestion!

well now I'm gonna keep my eyes out for this! I've never heard of it before.
Yeah I don't think they're popular in the states yet if that's where you are! Fun plants though so grab one if you can get your hands on it :)
@@GoodGrowing Close.... Im in Canada so Id imagine it would be similar to the US for availability, but Im sure it will eventually come our way 🤞🙂

it's possible that it wouldn't but I'm really not sure. Defo worth giving it a go! Let me know if you do!
I believe this plant is native to Thailand.
I have two year old caudex. It'll grow 3 inch stem and it never leaves and dies. It's in a small terracotta pot.
so I got mine and planted it but the vines and leaves are coming out from the sides, looks healthy the question is is it possible I planted it upside down??
never heard of this plant! thanks for sharing! In US by the way!
I've only seen them start popping up more in the UK in the last 2 years, so maybe they'll get to the US soon!
I just got my first stephania here in winter in January in Ohio (America). Is it going to be dorment till spring? What should I do with it in the meantime?
it probably will be dormant yes. I honestly leave mine just sitting on a shelf for the winter time and then pot it up again come spring
Very beautiful and rare plant. Can anyone tell me how the caudex looks like from inside when cut in half?
Omggg i want one is soo adorable
Right! So funky!
First comment whoooop dee dooooop!
Ps LOVE your shirt
@@TheJungleHaven speedy gonzalez! and thanks 😉 defo didn't text you from the fitting room asking if it was cute or anything 🙈
Does yours have roots? Also, will it still go dormant if kept in greenhouse cabinet conditions?

What happens to the roots when the plant goes into dormancy? Do they die? Do you cut them off?
You know I’m not sure. I’ve not really noticed roots when I’ve had mine before 😅 but if I did, id probably cut them off when I take it out of the pot at the end of the season
What if I just got one in autumn, will they still develop shoots as it's soon will enter it's dormancy period
did you get it as a tuber/bulb or does it have sprouts already? if it's not then I'd wait until spring to plant it up
It's a bulb and yes it has sprouts already

Can I still wait or should I do anything or my Stephanias are died?😭😭
I'd personally keep waiting, as long as the caudex doesn't start to shrivel or rot it should be fine, might just skip this year and come back next?
@@GoodGrowing thanks. I’ll wait next year sprouting with hope 🥰
Where would the seeds come from?
Can I prune off part of the stem? so its almost flush with the rest caudex?
I don't see why not but if you're going into autumn like we are, it may not grow back this year
If your gonna get into the stephina hobby I’d suggest you try stephina Kaweesakii or cephalantha
toxicity - Can cause loss of appetite you say? sounds like my new ozempic.
So should I eat it with tomato sauce or teriyaki? 🤣
🤔 maybe salt and vinegar? hehe*
*disclaimer: do not eat!!
… just got one, growing like a weed, must be doing something right 😂
