Have you ever thought playing with Undergrounder? Using insect meat in the hoppers provide mood buffs so it often negates the penalty, uses resources efficiently, and the insects can be farmed with a heat trap of two AC.

YES. Animals that only eat meat can even eat nutrien paste composed of only rice for example. Works fine. Might be because of my modlist changing something but I'm pretty sure yes.

Worth noting also that the nutrient pipes can fill machines like Biosculpters and Growth vats from a centralized paste storage tank.

I believe they can take the meals from the feeders since they're just sitting there. Haven't tried yet though since I usually don't use animals.
