As the internet has opened up musical spaces to diversify but letting riskier more experimental stuff to get to the surface they become progressively smaller in the range of artists they catch.
When there’s a new album or recommended album, or even artist, I’ve been meaning to listen to, I’ll save those projects to my library and unsave them once listened to, or keep around if I like it enough and want to return. All about fun methods for keeping track of what you’ve been meaning to check out.
Will someone smarter than me explain why I think this makes sense? I am a fan of both Danny Brown and Karen Carpenter and there is a connection to be made but I don’t have the words for it.
They say the annoying voice thing about so many vocalists I like - Björk, Billy Corgan, Alanis Morissette, Courtney Love, Geddy Lee to name a few lol. Often times they just don't like the style of music or the tone of their voice and they equate that with being a "bad singer" which just isn't true.
I honestly think having an interesting voice is way better than just being a good singer. Everyone on Glee was pretty talented at singing. I rest my case lmao
Metal subgenres are pretty easy to understand even for a newcomer. I mean if I said "industrial death grind" you can easily break that down into "death metal with a more industrial sounds and some Grindcore influence" and that's not that hard to understand

LET'S ARGUE: Revolution 9 by The Beatles might just be the most influential recording they ever released. While the track on its own is a lot of incoherence, all I could think of on my first listen were comparisons to songs that came after like Jimi Hendrix' Woodstock performance of The Star-Spangled Banner, On The Run and The Trial by Pink Floyd, The National Anthem by Radiohead, Contact by Daft Punk, EVERYTHING by Death Grips, and so much that's defined the sound of hip-hop. I can't not see artists in the studio deconstructing this track to figure out how to achieve some of those sounds for themselves. I'm aware that I'm reading into it with the hindsight of what came after and I seriously doubt it was intended as such, but it feels so much like a template for what's capable in the studio.
To be fair, the whole point of musical genres is to broadly group together songs that have a similar sound or a similar composition (like the guitar bass drums of rock) and when you go back 10, 20, 30, 40, 50, etc. years the only similarities that hold up across the pop genre was it being music that appealed to the lowest common denominator
