My Mother passed away two days after you uploaded this video. I remember watching this at the time it was uploaded, My Mother was being taken off life support and died two days later because she couldn't breathe on her own due to aggressive brain cancer that had destroyed her brain. This tune will always bring back the feelings of sorrow I felt and still do but at the same time a sense of love and appreciation for the Mother I was blessed with. Thank you buddy. Liked and subbed.
Also the depths of potential melancholy in anticipation of those inevitable partings that must indeed follow life's grand adventure with those whom we love. F***! What storytelling!
I think Last Train Home was the ending credits song to a JoJo's Bizarre Adventure season. I wouldn't be surprised if he watches the show and was inspired. Edit: I just saw this is Charles Berthoud; he probably already knew the song.
This stainless fretless is one of the most beautiful sounding instruments I've ever heard. Not just anybody can play one of those things, and you make it sound effortless. My only complaint is, it wasn't long enough. More of these, please.
It’s videos like this that really impress me. Charles’ flashy playing is quite something, but the perfect intonation on such a difficult instrument, the fluency, that’s really classy.
Charles, there is no language in the universe I know of, that could describe your playing. The emotion, the technique, Your offerings touch the heart, soothe the soul, and baffle the mind. You are an 'other - worldly' talent we are blessed to enjoy. Thank-you in my language.
Just gorgeous 😍 Would love a 15 minute arrangement of this. I used to watch the first LOTR movie to put me to sleep in college. The Shire Theme is just beautiful.
I’m always amazed at the talent and creative abilities of such a young master of the bass guitar. Hauntingly beautiful!!! I would sure love to see Charles in concert someday, though at my age, it’s unlikely.
wonderful , splendid , marvolous , incredible - your technique n skill is beyond greatness , stunning what u can make possible on bass- admiration - greetings from germany
Charles: What can man do against such fretless bass? Davie: ride out with me... ride out and slap it Charles: for funk and glory? Davie: for the memes; for your people!
Charles, the beauty you bring to the world in videos like this makes the usual stupidity of the human experience worthwhile and more bearable. Great composition and expression. Awesome.
THIS IS AMAZING i literally watched lord of the rings last night on disord eith people lul, also you are so talented on the bass aaaaaaa And already 1k views in 4 mins that is also really impressive
Lord of the Fretless. Always amazingly inspiring and so creative what you do on a instrument that for many many years was regularly shoved in the background. Lowest in the mix. Rarely featured. And typically the instrument played by the least talented member of so many bands. Not anymore!!! Sometimes I think it would be nice to see you thrive in a band. And then I come to my senses. Many bands would love to have you and need your tasty and lyrical playing. But you don't really need them. Thanks for bringing this instrument to the forefront. One bassist to rule them all, Lord of the Bassists. Haha
Дорогой Чарльз, я - опытный музыкант, дирижёр, фанат твоих аранжировок!!) ты каждый раз сносишь мне крышу своим звучанием!!!) с любовью из Санкт-Петербурга!!
You're really pushing the limits of what is considered possible on bass, while developing a growing talent for composition and arrangement from video to video. Just keep doing what you do, it's only getting better and better since I started watching your videos.
We need a much longer version. Everything this man does, sounds epic.
Somehow I suspected you would watch this channel too! Maybe it’s the screen name.

I watched it at 75% speed 😂

Goosebumps reading this dude, sorry for your loss. Stay strong
Sorry bout this man!
stay strong my guy
that’s a really sick bass

It is
Takes at least two hobbits to play.
Still waiting for a video of him going in depth and talking about the Le Fay basses
Lórien bass.
The Shire theme perfectly encapsulates the feeling of enjoying the comforts of home.
so true. * all the more exaggerated with the fact they leave to go through hell and finally come back again.

Really reminds me of Last train home by Pat Metheny. What a nice sounding tune, that bass is awesome and the player it's even more cool. Nice vid!!
Had the same reaction! I love that tune!
Was about to write the same thing.
Same. I came down here in the comment section to say this and was glad it was near the top of comments section already!

@@rstyknfe You are right about the ending credits. I recall The Consouls bass player mentioned how 🤯 it was when he realised it.

Hello Charles! I really like the way he plays. I would like to know what tuning you used for this song? Thanks
Beautiful... Reminded me strongly of other old master piece: Pat Metheny's "Last Train Home".
Keen ear you've got.
this guys arrangements and compositions are always incredible .
Thanks!
@@CharlesBerthoud you're an inspiration man, thanks for all ur vids.
True. Lots of bass virtuosity out there, but they do not write and arrange beautiful pieces.
This made me tear up. I agree that we need a longer version of this masterpiece. Truly a sound worth coming back to.
The most interesting remix of a beautiful song I've ever heard. It moves in a way that is truly original. I'm so glad I found this.
Thanks!
This reminds me of the song "Last Train Home" by Pat Metheny
I was just watching Fellowship with my 4 year old for the first time! and he's already a Charles fan :)
Has a Pat Metheny Last Train Home feel to it. Nice!
Exactly my thought 👍🏻
Mine too!
Yup, just needs some ethereal vocals!
Same vibes here
In fact, I'm gonna give it a go now 🚂

Fretless bass really sounds good.
Another amazing original, well played Charles.
Thanks but it's actually a cover of The Shire theme from the Lord of the Rings movies!
@@CharlesBerthoud yes but the arrangement is definitely original!
We have rain today with dramatic skies - putting this music on while driving around sounds heavenly for sure! ❤
Six months ago I didn't even know you could play bass with a bow, now it's one of my favorite sounds 😊
Yeah I love it, especially on fretless!
*classical double bass players enter the chat*
But for real, if you're looking for more bowed bass, Edgar meyer is exceptional. He uses a standup tho.
Check out vids by Damian Coccio!
Does anyone else just watch these and feel like never playing the bass again. You’re too good man.
This is my favorite LOTR song, and this arrangement is amazing. I wish it was longer!
No one else plays the bass like you Charles, it's refreshing and takes bass playing to another lever🙂
Nice
👏🏻🎉🥇

Man that was too short. Please make a longer one. Such a beautiful version 🤩🤩🤩
This brought me to tears. I have such an outstanding love for LOTR so to hear this was absolutely amazing, thank you!
Getting Pat Metheny Vibes from this. Sounds fantastic!
I was just thinking it sounded like Last Train Home
Same. Yep definitely some Last Train Home inspiration
Those harmonics on a bass at 0:20 are insane. This s a very talented player.
Love these covers man keep up the good work
Thanks!
I want an album of this. Absolutely stunning.

I was not expecting to be hit with SO MANY GOOSEBUMPS, that was so beautiful!
Can we get like... a 5 minute version of this? 😅 Or 5 hour for that matter. Amazing!
The ebow part sounded like a wind instrument, so cool.

This made me feel like this is what life would sound like in Lord of the rings
