We need a much longer version. Everything this man does, sounds epic.
Somehow I suspected you would watch this channel too! Maybe it’s the screen name.
@@RamseyDewey
I wonder what else we have in common.
I watched it at 75% speed 😂
Agreed.
Yes, please!
Your arrangements always have so much heart in it. Beautifully played. ❤️
Thanks!
ya charles is like the only person who makes bass seem interesting
@@youtubeuser206 you don't listen to enough bass 💀
true
Hello Charles! I really like the way he plays. I would like to know what tuning you used for this song? Thanks
What a beautiful arrangement. I wish that version was abit longer
Please, please, PLEASE! We need a full length version. ♥
Have been listening to this ever since
What a beautiful tone!
Thank you Charles, now I see Legolas and Gimli doing frozen poses like in an 80's TV show...
Brilliant sound, music and playng Charles!
The sound really reminds me of Last train home by Pat Metheny Group, love it😁
Okay now I want to hear what you'd do with Star Wars, this was great.
Sounds very pat metheny! Awesome
cool.
now I am curious to have classic fretless bass music turned into LOTR like music
6 strings?! Wow 😮
Amo ese bajo con acero en el diapasón. Suena hermoso
彼は、ベーシストの新たな神様です!
this is just a trailer right? right Charles?
Дякую за відео. Успіху
Really reminds me of Last train home by Pat Metheny. What a nice sounding tune, that bass is awesome and the player it's even more cool. Nice vid!!
Had the same reaction! I love that tune!
Was about to write the same thing.
Same. I came down here in the comment section to say this and was glad it was near the top of comments section already!
I think Last Train Home was the ending credits song to a JoJo's Bizarre Adventure season. I wouldn't be surprised if he watches the show and was inspired. Edit: I just saw this is Charles Berthoud; he probably already knew the song.
@@rstyknfe You are right about the ending credits. I recall The Consouls bass player mentioned how 🤯 it was when he realised it.
The Shire theme perfectly encapsulates the feeling of enjoying the comforts of home.
so true. * all the more exaggerated with the fact they leave to go through hell and finally come back again.
Also the depths of potential melancholy in anticipation of those inevitable partings that must indeed follow life's grand adventure with those whom we love.
F***! What storytelling!
that’s a really sick bass
... player!
It is
Takes at least two hobbits to play.
Still waiting for a video of him going in depth and talking about the Le Fay basses
Lórien bass.
My Mother passed away two days after you uploaded this video. I remember watching this at the time it was uploaded, My Mother was being taken off life support and died two days later because she couldn't breathe on her own due to aggressive brain cancer that had destroyed her brain. This tune will always bring back the feelings of sorrow I felt and still do but at the same time a sense of love and appreciation for the Mother I was blessed with. Thank you buddy. Liked and subbed.
Sorry for your loss.
Sorry for your loss man, stay strong
Goosebumps reading this dude, sorry for your loss. Stay strong
Sorry bout this man!
stay strong my guy
this guys arrangements and compositions are always incredible .
Thanks!
@@CharlesBerthoud you're an inspiration man, thanks for all ur vids.
True. Lots of bass virtuosity out there, but they do not write and arrange beautiful pieces.
Beautiful... Reminded me strongly of other old master piece: Pat Metheny's "Last Train Home".
Keen ear you've got.
Has a Pat Metheny Last Train Home feel to it. Nice!
Exactly my thought 👍🏻
Mine too!
Yup, just needs some ethereal vocals!
Same vibes here
In fact, I'm gonna give it a go now 🚂
The most interesting remix of a beautiful song I've ever heard. It moves in a way that is truly original. I'm so glad I found this.
Thanks!
This reminds me of the song "Last Train Home" by Pat Metheny
Charles: What can man do against such fretless bass?
Davie: ride out with me... ride out and slap it
Charles: for funk and glory?
Davie: for the memes; for your people!
cringe
@@jf9052 L take
outstanding
Fretless bass really sounds good.
Another amazing original, well played Charles.
Thanks but it's actually a cover of The Shire theme from the Lord of the Rings movies!
@@CharlesBerthoud yes but the arrangement is definitely original!
This stainless fretless is one of the most beautiful sounding instruments I've ever heard. Not just anybody can play one of those things, and you make it sound effortless. My only complaint is, it wasn't long enough. More of these, please.
Getting Pat Metheny Vibes from this. Sounds fantastic!
I was just thinking it sounded like Last Train Home
Same. Yep definitely some Last Train Home inspiration
This made me tear up. I agree that we need a longer version of this masterpiece. Truly a sound worth coming back to.
Nice
👏🏻🎉🥇
Six months ago I didn't even know you could play bass with a bow, now it's one of my favorite sounds 😊
Yeah I love it, especially on fretless!
*classical double bass players enter the chat*
But for real, if you're looking for more bowed bass, Edgar meyer is exceptional. He uses a standup tho.
Check out vids by Damian Coccio!
Can we get like... a 5 minute version of this? 😅 Or 5 hour for that matter. Amazing!
Like everyone else said, I'd love a longer version so I can peace out at work. I can't just keep repeating the one minute clip lol
This is my favorite LOTR song, and this arrangement is amazing. I wish it was longer!
just friggin gorgeous. felt like I was skiing down that fretboard on an icy winter morning with warm coffee in my belly
I know what you mean 🤣
Love these covers man keep up the good work
Thanks!
I have a GREAT recommendation. WOULD by Alice In Chains would sound INCREDIBLE the way you play!
I have not listened to AIC in awhile. I forget every name of all of their songs.
Any recommendation other than that song(that I am literally going to listen to right now)?
I love it when you playing the FRETLESS-STEEL BASS :D
Thanks, I love how it sounds!
Sounds like Last Train Home by Pat Metheny Group. I love it!
the guitar part, you mean?
@@delarkaBCN The whole thing.
Lord of the Fretless. Always amazingly inspiring and so creative what you do on a instrument that for many many years was regularly shoved in the background. Lowest in the mix. Rarely featured. And typically the instrument played by the least talented member of so many bands. Not anymore!!! Sometimes I think it would be nice to see you thrive in a band. And then I come to my senses. Many bands would love to have you and need your tasty and lyrical playing. But you don't really need them. Thanks for bringing this instrument to the forefront. One bassist to rule them all, Lord of the Bassists. Haha
It’s videos like this that really impress me. Charles’ flashy playing is quite something, but the perfect intonation on such a difficult instrument, the fluency, that’s really classy.
THIS IS AMAZING i literally watched lord of the rings last night on disord eith people lul, also you are so talented on the bass aaaaaaa
And already 1k views in 4 mins that is also really impressive
Just gorgeous 😍 Would love a 15 minute arrangement of this. I used to watch the first LOTR movie to put me to sleep in college. The Shire Theme is just beautiful.
This made me feel like this is what life would sound like in Lord of the rings
Man that was too short. Please make a longer one. Such a beautiful version 🤩🤩🤩
It sounds like Last Train Home from the Jojo's Bizzare Adventure soundtrack. Overall a very beautiful piece
This brought me to tears. I have such an outstanding love for LOTR so to hear this was absolutely amazing, thank you!
Does anyone else just watch these and feel like never playing the bass again. You’re too good man.
Definitely hear some influence from "Last Train Home" from Jojo's Bizarre Adventure! Very cool :D
I just finished watching the lord of the rings 2. The timing of this video is perfect.
Nice, I rewatch them every couple of years haha
@@CharlesBerthoud Nice. I'm watching them for the first time.
Shame the Amazon show is making a mockery of Tolkien's vision and even Peter Jackson's adaptation(arguably the best trilogy ever).
Same with me man
@@CharlesBerthoud LotR/Silmarillion themed concept album for solo bass when?? 🤔
I was just watching Fellowship with my 4 year old for the first time! and he's already a Charles fan :)
wonderful , splendid , marvolous , incredible - your technique n skill is beyond greatness , stunning what u can make possible on bass- admiration - greetings from germany
Reminds me of that song from the end of JoJo's part 3. Last Train Home, I think it's called?
I’m always amazed at the talent and creative abilities of such a young master of the bass guitar. Hauntingly beautiful!!!
I would sure love to see Charles in concert someday, though at my age, it’s unlikely.
Sounds like I just beat an old school game like Zelda or DK or Japanese RPG and the credits are running lol
Those harmonics on a bass at 0:20 are insane. This s a very talented player.
Holy crap. that was sweet. somebody did nerdy stuff on a bass about nerdy stuff! finally!!!
Спасибо! Восторг и восхищение!
A lot of folks probably watch these and think it’s one track by one person and every sound is happening all at once lol
Молодец, хорошо играешь! Мир тебе и твоему дому.
Now I need a LOTR/Jojo’s Bizzare Adventure crossover!
Charles, the beauty you bring to the world in videos like this makes the usual stupidity of the human experience worthwhile and more bearable. Great composition and expression. Awesome.
could you please play some blotted science? alex webster is such an under rated bassist
Great bass playing but can’t stand that paper in the background 😅
I know this might sound bizarre, but this rendition makes my heart both happy and ache at the same time. I want a longer version so badly
Rocks! Pirates of the Caribbean next perhaps?!
Simply THE best bassist in the world!
You played that so fricking smooth, great job. I would love to hear a longer version
You should stop using adjectives in your video titles.
Best bass player on the planet. Awesome job!
I'd love to see Charles do some video game music composing.
Heavily reminded of last train home from Pat Metheny
You're really pushing the limits of what is considered possible on bass, while developing a growing talent for composition and arrangement from video to video. Just keep doing what you do, it's only getting better and better since I started watching your videos.
Wow - complete restraint on your part... epic sound! Thanks for this very nice break in the world's chaos.
Did you make it sound like Last train Home on purpose or
I was not expecting to be hit with SO MANY GOOSEBUMPS, that was so beautiful!
Phil Keaggy used an ebow on several recordings. Nice job as usual. Incredible musicianship.
If you play it at .75x it's much closer to the feel of the soundtrack
Great job
A 6 string bass?? You’re basically playing a guitar at a lower octave 😂
Shhhh. Mr504 will hear you.
The ebow sounds super sick on the fretless!
now combine every single weird bass into one
Good song, but netflix is like a shit
The Shire theme always reminded me of the lands from whence the musical phrases originated. Ireland, Scotland and Wales/North England.
Check out Ralph Vaughan Williams if you have no idea who he is. His classical music is amazing, and very...very...English. (Also, his life story is insane. He was a medic in WW1)
Every culture has Folk Music of some kind. Peter Jackson and the composer for his films very clearly decided to incorporate the explicit themes of English/British Folk music into the mix.
Tangential reference: Check out the cinematic composer Joe Hisaishi. He scored most of the Studio Ghibli films and I would be amazed if 1900-1950 english clasical music was not a direct influence on him some how. Because he sounds like 3000 miles away from Japan sometimes. And post war Japan was a burgeoning scene of jazz, blues, classical, funk and interesting music. The UK and America were huge influences in that slice of time.
For that matter, check out some of the early 90's music for JRPG games. Especially FF. FFV and FFIX specifically probably hit the english folk sound more than others.
This kinda sounds like last train home
one word to describe this '' WOOOOAAAAAAWW ''
OMG!! OMG OMG OMG!!! YES! Thank you! Please continue with this LOTR series, there are several themes: Rohan, Isengard, Elves, and Into the West by Annie Lennox :) This is insanely beautiful!
I love everything about this except the egg shaker sound.
Ocean Sound > Shakers
Morracas > Shakers
Shakers > Silence ?
We have rain today with dramatic skies - putting this music on while driving around sounds heavenly for sure! ❤
I'd love to hear a version of this that never finishes
The ebow part sounded like a wind instrument, so cool.
I’d love to hear about Howard Shore’s reaction to your beautiful arrangement and rendition. Pretty sure he’d love it!!!
Hello Brother Charlee this is a ANUJ fan from INDIA 🇮🇳 you are an AWESOME Bass Player. That's Nice. We have seen in your some of the videos you play keyboard 🎹 that's too awesome 😎.
But Today's Video reminds me some other Guitar player, Can you Play 6 String electric guitar like a Pro ? Please make a video We wanna love to see your awesome Talent 😊
Please make a full version. This is so good.
First off let me say you're ridiculously talented. My family watches you all the time. We were impressed and loved the video game soundtrack montage you did. ..
My wife has been BEGGING ME to try and ask you to do HARRY POTTER if you ever could. I know you are a busy man. Figured it wouldn't hurt to ask.
Much obliged
The Ebow really spices this up to a whole new level Charles! My friend Damian Coccio did an original composition on his fretless 6 using an Ebow and that one is killer as well. Check out his UA-cam channel.
Really cool but what’s with the guy hand sanding in the background? I wonder what he’s making!? Getting after it! Lol
No one else plays the bass like you Charles, it's refreshing and takes bass playing to another lever🙂
