I've noticed that if the cows have to travel through a doorway, like a fence gate or wall gate, the cows will not travel back to the barn, which is also where they are slaughtered.
Part of the issue is that cows are really finicky when it comes to gates. Often it takes them forever to decide to move through them. This is likely causing the slaughter orders to either be ignored or take forever to process.
In order for the slaughter to work you have to set the max to less than the total. Set it to 8/13 or 10/13. Also you can prioritize the black smith to work on heavy tools first. have him make about 3 or 4 for a second blacksmith the sawmill barracks and so. I enjoy your gameplay a lot and love the long videos. Great series, keep it up.
I have been seeing some people saying the Cows bug is because of the gates. The cow models get confused and the herders can not get to them. Darren, if you look carefully you can see how the cows are staying outside during the winder, just frozen in place beyond the wall when they should be going inside the barn. Try to expand the wall and enclose the grazing area -- or even move it inside temporarily.
I've watched 9 episodes of this. I was finally convinced to buy it. I played last night and had to restart like 3 times because everyone kept dying. You make it look so easy. I finally got a good town going, and I'm around 14 years in, but really struggling to get it anywhere near what you have going in this series. I'm really enjoying it, time to check out your other series while I wait for more Farthest Frontier!
It is very common to start over around a dozen time before avoiding a massive die off. Avoiding all death events is a tad difficult, but you can learn to keep it to a minimum with many hours of game play and watching the videos of others who post to UA-cam.
Hi Darren, love your videos, also you need to move the towers closer to the walls, so when the raiders are occupied by destroying the walls, the towers can shoot at them
Some have already mentioned this, but they are stuck outside the fence (I imagine they use the same programming that keeps deer out). I had this happen in my game, where they got stuck outside and once I removed the gate, the cows were moving again between seasons. Try removing the gate to let them back in as they cant go back inside the barn to be slaughtered currently, and have them hearding inside the city from that point on, or rearrange the fence.
Yes. Happened in my town. Since cheese is my top export in my town, (500++ pop) population, the chain reaction with cheese not being produce is insane! Nearly killed 100 of my settlement. Just because a goddamn gate.
Looks like the cows can't make it back to the barn. Around 30:00 when the winter season was up, they were in the snow and not the barn. Maybe try moving the grazing area to the open field inside the gate?
@@bish0p2004 probably why it fixes when he buys new cattle, because they go straight into the barn to get slaughtered. and also why it borked again after that.
I saw this tip in the previous video comment somewhere. If u make 10x10 farmfields and when u plant clover u can let your caddle graze that plot what is also 10x10 and they wil eat the clover and increase fertility just like the composter but quicker and more efficient. And please also try disable milking for u use the butcher option.
watching the raiders attack the wall while safe from your tower because it was so far away from the wall was painful. Great episode though! Really enjoying the series.
Might have missed it but upgrade fletcher gives crossbows. Maybe build a wall around vault, storehouse, village centre. slow down bandits and protects important stock
I guess your towers should be shooting at the raiders while they try to destroy the walls. If you're not shooting them, building a stone wall is no use either
It still creates a delay and lets you know where they’re coming from. My towers on the south west and north west cover the walls and gates, but I’d need 4 more to cover the east and north, so instead I just have 1 placed closer to the town center to save on manpower and money.
The sound seems slightly ahead of the video? Especially noticeable at @9:05 when saying about the money arriving seems to be before the money actually arrives.
Yeah its really difficult to sync up - the game has these severe stutters where the recording pauses momentarily, so I when starting the edit I have a video file of like 55mins and an audio file of 60mins, then I need to find where the stutters happened and try resync things. Best I can do, there may be some times where its 1-2secs off but then it should catchup at some other place... I can't really do much about it. Normally when a game stutters the recording just keeps going, this weirdly pauses it.
@@WhatDarrenPlays Recording game play can be difficult and editing can be a pain to compensate for results that are less than spot on. I know this from experience, if you have watched any of my videos.
Waiting to see if you take down the walls and gate between the barn and grazing area for the cows. You can always put a wall around the outside of the grazing area with plenty of extra space.
You prob saw it while editing but the 1st raid report appeared while you were chasing the last raiders. Is there nowhere you can check those reports again? Seems silly to only have an 8-second frame to read them.
what I found out: if you have cows outside your city the cow needs to go inside to get to the barn to get killed. but cows dont go through doors. I had to deleat part of the wall. now my cows are inside between the appletrees and it works really good. you also have to wait for the cow and the person to go inside. I have a problem myself and perhase somebody here has an idea: my people are all running over the place. i have over 100 caskets sitting by but most don't use them. i have 7 cars but most of them are sitting still. and my people are running through the miles to transport one ore or one clay or sand at the time... what can I do?
Besides the game being buggy, you likely need some carts, but I am not sure what cars are since that is more like a 19th century thing. If your roads are straight, it solves some issues with game programming and travelers inns, which the game calls .... oh dear, I am drawing a blank. Not sure why you have caskets since the living don't use those unless a vampire.
Hi there. Another way to resolve the bug in the farm is to relocate the building. Note that i had less than 10 cows for farm. I don't know if it makes a difference...it seems to me that something strange always happens when I have more than 10 cows into the farm. Thx u for ur videos.
Most games have slaughtering animals automatically set for the fall. It mirrors real life as the animals eat for free in the Spring when they're born through the summer and into Fall. After the Fall harvest farmers don't want to have to feed the animals over Winter. I would assume this game is the same.
Hey David I'm really enjoying your play list thank you. I noticed you didn't build a soap shed, limiting the workers from getting sick also putting a product limit on services allowing those workers to help in other areas and watch towers at entry points.
I keep wondering how these villagers have gold to pay their taxes? A huge mystery. Wasn't that a reason they left their homes for the wilderness- taxes?
The stone from ore mines mod idea makes me think that 1 stone per 10 ore makes sense considering the production rates at the foundry and blacksmith's forge.
I'm torn over your tribulations with the cows. Solving it was absolutely a great victory. However, watching you fiddle through it was painful at times. Hmmm, I don't mean fiddling in a bad way, that's what it took to fix it. A part of me think it would have been better fixed off screen, but then you lose the tutorial aspects I'm just looking at it from a presentation point of view. I will say, after watching four different you tubers playing this game, you are by far the best content.
I think your tower placement is wrong. You have a wall and gates to block the raiders from coming in. Place towers near the gates so that they can shoot arrows at the raiders whilst they’re busy attacking the gate. Even if they break in, you’ll at least do some significant damage. You can then use your soldiers to finish them off
relocating the building fixes it most of the time. i had the same problem with a barn and a windmill before, but after relocating the building it fixes the problem.
Dang it! The volume is just barely high enough for me to make out what you are saying. I am hoping you can make the volume a little higher in future videos, even though I am a tad late to the party. Maybe you can get UA-cam to up the volume a tad?
I abandoned my 300 population play through. My new town is at 200 good and about 10,000 gold. I am being much more efficient with the trader. You can buy resources a resources and have your people convert them into finished goods and make a profit.I still cannot build a second storage wagon. Any idea why?
* Do you think defensive towers on the walls or gates would be beneficial? I'd think they would start shooting at invaders before they reach the wall? Or at least slow them down. * Please keep playing the games the way you do. It makes me feel like I'm playing the game not you. We're in no rush, we want to enjoy what the game has to offer, including the quirks 😀
I think you have a barracks, but likely no one trained, or properly armed, so waiting to see how this goes. Too bad you didn't have the tower walled in with a gate and a double gate where they first broke through. I don't think the game allows the raider weapons and amour to be taken from the dead. That is an oversight I am sure. Too bad you thought about the barracks a bit late in the attack.
Just doing the same thing over & over isn't gonna change anything, feel like half the video is watching the damn barns & cows without trying some more things.
They wouldve run in, took gold and run out. Sorry if it wasnt good to watch but there’s no way I wouldve just let the ai fight, considering I had only hunters they wouldnt have fought at all if I didnt tell them.
LOL, so you like to see a fight until it ends. Well, it is hard to not use the pause option, or even the 1/2 speed option and send in the troops manually if they seem to be not reacting fast enough.
I've noticed that if the cows have to travel through a doorway, like a fence gate or wall gate, the cows will not travel back to the barn, which is also where they are slaughtered.

Maybe Disabling milking before you put the slaughter order in.
Also, don't forget you have some heavy weapons in the tradin post!
Looks like the cows can't make it back to the barn. Around 30:00 when the winter season was up, they were in the snow and not the barn. Maybe try moving the grazing area to the open field inside the gate?
that is possible, the gate might be bugging the slaughter order because they move the cow inside to slaughter it.
Yup, that is definitely the issue.
@@bish0p2004 probably why it fixes when he buys new cattle, because they go straight into the barn to get slaughtered. and also why it borked again after that.

I agree, if enough space was provided when placing the important buildings, they need their own walls and gates.
I guess your towers should be shooting at the raiders while they try to destroy the walls. If you're not shooting them, building a stone wall is no use either

You're best to have the Tower at or near the gate... you can get more hits on the raiders while they are trying to break down the gate.
Did you try turning milking off, then give slaughter order?
This may be right. After u got it to work u turned milking back on and it didn’t work.
I was wondering the same.
Also my thought

On your Farms they only recognize one tilling per year and one Clover per year. When you do more than one it doesn’t seem to count
Houses respond to a road to them with desirability
Still loving these series, please don't stop. I hope they fix the barn issue soon, it's a pretty annoying bug.

thx for last help about fodder for cow. i tried and its true. fodder in barn using root vegetables and grain as the fodder.
The raid pause-play-pause totally shattered the survival immersion for me 😮💨
without pausing the raid would've killed many people and took a lot of stuff. sorry though!

With the barns i find that if you delete the occupancy of the people working and then add new one in again it will re-set the duties of the workers.

So does the slaughter thing depend on what save you might be on? Like it happens to some people and not everyone

Too bad you couldn't put the barracks near the structures that need protection, like the vault and trading post, for examples.

you missed a massage at around 57 minutes. thank you for doing the videos!
I could do with a 1-hour massage.
I don't think slaughter works if herd size is set to max. I set mine to 10 and it seems to work now.

Yes, that is a standard fortification configurations that is likely to become important if raiders later come with siege weapons.

Loving this series!
I believe traders sell stone. You should remember to pick a lot next next time.
I start buying stone from the traveling merchants right away when I have some gold since the game tends to provide a limited supply to harvest.
Welcome to the no slaughter challenge
try moving the barn, I feel like that might reset it
Others have suggested moving structures will reset, or fix a lot of bugs, even if the move is putting it right back where it was.
Maybe set the grazing within your walls and try slaughtering them.
Cows are stuck outside your wall

when you have vegans working the barn
LOL, I don't think you could get them to work a barn unless they think they are saving the cows from slaughter.

i hope they get that butchering big patched fairly quick. Towards late game that is a game breaking bug.

Yes, you will need towers near the walls, as close as you can get them. If you noticed, the introduction shows towers as part of the walls.
Stop mining that gold, think of inflation...😉

Can you be a little less harsh with the camera angles during the raids. The whipping around was hard on the eyes. Great series.
I'll try!
Maybe you noticed he speeds up the playback, so that would make the camera motion rather jerky and hard to watch.
Immigrating while a town is in war is wild
too much illness maybe another witch doctor?

yah kind of a bad ending since it took 20 min and the town hall would have done all the defending anyway

This is the worst Farmville Let's Play of all time (do you butcher cows in Farmville?)
Just build a new building man, going arround the cow issue repeating the same over and over is not going to bring diferent results.
