I hitch hiked in the northern part of India back in October. It was such a cool experience. It was so freeing and opened my eyes to what traveling can really be like. Long story short, I met a few guys in a hostel my first day in Delhi, and ended up spending a few weeks traveling with them. We went to Leh, Ladakh (northern India) and hitched a ride from there to Diskit. There were pretty insane roads up there: picture unpaved, rocky, and exposed cliffs. Went over a very high mountain pass at nearly 18000 feet (5480m). We had to split off into two hitched rides because it was hard as a group of 3 to get a lift. Our driver in the car I rode in was so kind and refused money from us. We even stopped for some hand-made noodles in the most delicious thukpa soup on the way and tried butter tea. They had a sweet dog in the car and I had to sit in the middle seat so the dog could have the window seat 😂 Tried to hitch a ride a few days later up to Turtuk, but after spending 4 hours trying to hitch a ride and getting caught in a sand storm, we ended up having to get a taxi. The taxi driver was over an hour late lol. It was a crazy day. Hitch hiking is awesome. Be careful especially if you’re a woman! I felt safe because I was traveling with two men, but otherwise *personally* I wouldn’t have hitch hiked. But that’s just me :)
I spent a lot of time hitch hiking through Tamil Nadu. It was quite difficult, because everytime the driver saw a white face, they wanted us to pay. But once we found a driver who took us for free, it was always worth the wait. Most of them even offered us some money and food. Indian people just are the kindest.
@@dimiberba2374 Yes, I've been to India 3 times. Even most Indians there don't trust each other. I remember the school book story my friend's son was studying in India in 2nd grade. I teared up a lot during this. I can't imagine living in a world where I would feel free and free of what people think of me, what I want others to think of me, and free of time, no obligations, and just to live. You are both amazing. Loved this.
My wife’s family is from a small town in rural southwest Tamil Nadu, not far from Kerala. Going there a couple years ago was a life changing experience. It was amazing. I can’t wait to go back again. The mountains and the wife’s family farms are gorgeous. Kerala was amazing as well. Loved walking amongst the tea farms and jungles. The food is amazing in the south. Life changing experience.
She is so inspiring .I can't ever think of doing something like this .I don't even go to a movie / hotel alone .This feels so liberating .Good for her.
Hearing her story I remembered a poem by Kahlil Gibran : And a woman who held a baby against her bosom said, Speak to us of Children. And he said: Your children are not your children. They are the sons and daughters of Life’s longing for itself. They come through you but not from you, And though they are with you yet they belong not to you. You may give them your love but not your thoughts, For they have their own thoughts. You may house their bodies but not their souls, For their souls dwell in the house of tomorrow, which you cannot visit, not even in your dreams. You may strive to be like them, but seek not to make them like you. For life goes not backward nor tarries with yesterday. You are the bows from which your children as living arrows are sent forth. The archer sees the mark upon the path of the infinite, and He bends you with His might that His arrows may go swift and far. Let your bending in the archer’s hand be for gladness; For even as He loves the arrow that flies, so He loves also the bow that is stable. I respect our own culture, and our society structure, our sense of belongingness, our collectivist society, but for those who wanna be themselves, don't wanna be bound in the net called "what will others think?!!" mindset, you can't stop them from flying, from being free.
this was so well produced Luke. Your story telling is so amazing and how you are able to connect with people all around the world and showcase your experiences, your lessons. Very inspiring!

As she said it is all about luck!! There is news about pizza delivery boys molesting or even raping in India and here we see single alone woman hitchhiking and meeting stranger after stranger and is safe• It is all about luck!
@@carrad123456 This is like telling there was a school sh**ting in USA. And all the children stopped going to school as schools are not safe anymore. There are rapes happening all over the world. Rapes happen in higher rates in Europe and USA compared to India. That does not mean that people stop living their life or live in constant fear in USA and Europe. The number looks huge just because of the higher population. But if you see the rate or per 1,000,000 people you will be shocked.

Luke!! I've been waiting to see what video you made in India! So excited to watch EDIT: Wow, this was not what I expected. Amu's story is special, yet so common in India. Child marriage & divorce are still such big taboos.. thanks for opening up. As a half-Indian female traveller, Amu inspired me a lot. I've been dreaming about hitchhiking and discovering my country for years but part of me is scared for my safety. She's right, you should "learn from your experiences, not from what other people say", and go see what the world is about with your own eyes, not just what you've read in newspapers or seen on TV. I'm really looking forward to going back to India now and create my own luck 🇮🇳 Thanks Luke, well done :)

Luke I love your content. There's truly nothing like it that I've found anywhere else on youtube. You're living my dream life and I don't think I'll ever be able to do it. Not for the reasons you might think. I am not shy, I have no problem with contacting a random stranger and getting to know them, and I am also not picky. I can and have slept in the street with no complaints. The problem is: I'm terrified for my safety. I know there are many amazing people out there, but all it takes is one to end my life. I just have to decide if it's worth the risk. Being a woman and a survivor of assault, I am scared to just pick up and go to a random country, though I dream of it every day. So, what I'm saying is, thank you for living my dream life for me, so I can see what it would be like through your videos.

one of the most beautiful video that I have ever seen. People have different calling, not everyone is supposed to get married, raise kids , serve husband/wife for rest of their lives. Some are born to travel, meet people and see places but sadly most people dont realize their calling, their inner voice is so buried by the norms of society. I hope videos like this becomes an eye opener for all
I can't help but smile all through your videos. I feel like you have such a gift for finding positivity in this world. Thank you for telling Amu's story. My tales of hitchhiking are quite different. Just Bolivian lorry drivers chatting a lot of Spanish to me whilst I nodded and felt confused. Less magical.

Do it. (Period).
Your friend hasn't posted in over 4 months. I hope she is okay. I thoroughly enjoyed this. Thank you for bringing us along.
Yah am perfectly alright dear❤
@@HikerGirl That's great, Amu. Good to hear. You rock!
she is missing from last one year 😢😢
Hearing her story I remembered a poem by Kahlil Gibran :
And a woman who held a baby against her bosom said, Speak to us of Children.
And he said:
Your children are not your children.
They are the sons and daughters of Life’s longing for itself.
They come through you but not from you,
And though they are with you yet they belong not to you.
You may give them your love but not your thoughts,
For they have their own thoughts.
You may house their bodies but not their souls,
For their souls dwell in the house of tomorrow, which you cannot visit, not even in your dreams.
You may strive to be like them, but seek not to make them like you.
For life goes not backward nor tarries with yesterday.
You are the bows from which your children as living arrows are sent forth.
The archer sees the mark upon the path of the infinite, and He bends you with His might that His arrows may go swift and far.
Let your bending in the archer’s hand be for gladness;
For even as He loves the arrow that flies, so He loves also the bow that is stable.
I respect our own culture, and our society structure, our sense of belongingness, our collectivist society, but for those who wanna be themselves, don't wanna be bound in the net called "what will others think?!!" mindset, you can't stop them from flying, from being free.
Thank you for sharing verses so
rich and beautiful.
Every parent in this world shoud
be made to read these lines
Thanks for bringing back the memory of this poem, which I read several years ago! They are so relevant to me now, as a father of 2 teenagers!

This woman defines humanity she invited an unknown person and than travelled with him accross the south India keeping him safe showing him India that is beyond metro cities, such an amazing hospitality...
I really got Goosebumps.. I like the video from tamilnadu new subscriber.. getting emotional.. thank you.
This girl is crazy, mad respect for her. Doesn't give a shit about what people say. I hope her channel blows up!
Amu is out there hitchiking with strangers throught India while I'm afraid to order pizza on the phone
Queen❤️
Everyone has their own challenges. Dont diminish your's 😊👋
As she said it is all about luck!!
There is news about pizza delivery boys molesting or even raping in India and here we see single alone woman hitchhiking and meeting stranger after stranger and is safe•
It is all about luck!
@@carrad123456 where did u hear these type of stories. Its not just about luck. There are many kind people in India.

so easy to fall into the trap of feeling alone or like you're the only one living. it's nice seeing glimpses of the lives of others, it grounds me.
I love Amu's attitude and I feel exactly the same. Except I lived my life for others for 40 years. Glad to say that for the past 5 years I have also been a free bird. Not hitchhiking, but traveling full time and truly enjoying life on my terms! Thanks for this beautiful video. There are important messages to be shared!
Thanks!
India is best for Hitchhiking. Incredible India 🇮🇳
luke you’re literally one of the most talented creators that i’ve ever seen on this platform. i love each and every one of your videos because they each teach something new, but all of your videos still have a common theme: everyone has their own unique and complex story. i love how you perfectly capture the story of anyone that’s willing to share it and tell the world what it needs to hear. you have sooo much purpose in this world, we need more people like you!!! thank you for an incredible video once again
Thanks for promoting hitchhiking. It's my favorite form of transport and have done it in 98 countries so far.
U r awesome 👌
98 countries.! 😇

Amazing film
I really enjoyed that video. I honestly wished it were longer and maybe you had turned it into a short series. Amu is without a doubt one of the coolest people on earth, and I hope she finds contentment on her journey. Safe travels, Luke and Amu.

This is the first video I have seen of yours and it is just amazing. Have not seen such story telling for long. Also AMU’s story moved me and made me realise there is a lot to life, sitting and cribbing about what’s wrong does not make sense. I wanna live and as amu says fly like a bird.🦋❤🌈
Then just fly over the skyy❤
this video in particula
r made me so emotional
This is so emotional. Hope you enjoyed this process and your time in India. You're a lovely person. Hitch hiking honestly scares me because it is so unpredictable, but I am open to the idea. When I find the right people, why not? :) xoxo
I don't know this girl but I'm still so very proud of her for living what she really is, for being brave enough to go against everybody including her own family just so she can have her piece of mind, we should all do this and learn from her.
Wow she’s so so strong. I can’t even start to imagine what pain she’s been through.
Amu has great character and we're so happy for her! Thank you for helping tell her story, you're one brilliant UA-camr!
when Amu cut her hair, i genuinely started to tear up... what a beautiful, free soul
The range, emotion, story this woman has just on her face when answering the question at 6:48 🥺
"You learn for your experiences not what other people say" That is so true! Awesome video! Thanks Luke! I think family is what you want it to be. Thanks for a great post!
I felt so much from this 9 minute video. The journey Amu and you had together looked beautiful. So excited to keep watching your videos Luke, and to now follow along on Amu's journey!
it may be hard for you to upload very often, but it is definitely worth it, you make not only films, you tell stories.
You can't imagine how hard I've been waiting for a new video since discovering your channel. And I've not been disappointed. It is incredible how much impressions, feelings and meaning you can put into just 9 minutes of video. Watching feels like making experiences, growing and developing for like half a year.
You could make a movie out of this! And appreciate Amu who thinks and lives in an original way!
She is a remarkable, brave woman! Thank you for sharing. I hope you taught her how to make her own UA-cam channel. 😊
I love this. Amu, you're amazing. Go enjoy life. You deserve to be happy. Good one, Luke. 💯
Damn i didn’t want this to end haha i hope i have the courage to hitchhike when i get to India in a few months. Awesome video i hope there’s more. This was cool to watch
Most Indians only hitchhike in remote areas of the country.
@@rejuvenatingsoul3498 awesome thanks for the advice brother
Amu's outlook on life is refreshing.
Hey Luke, Thank you for covering this, and bring more light to it. Keep doing what you are doing!
Amazing people visiting Amazing Places with Amazing Hearts ❤
I admire Amu's sense of freedom and confidence, this journey seemed to have a lot of meaning for both of you!
Luke!! I've been waiting to see what video you made in India! So excited to watch
EDIT: Wow, this was not what I expected.
Child marriage is massely reduced
Just like witchcraft and all are reduced in europe
And talk about divorce it's good system in india
They have many problems but not the ones you are saying florence
@@youtubedekho8086 it was common in ancient days
Likewise many country had some weird rituals it was normal those days like a gave example of witchcraft
So putting it now shows ignorance of florence

One damn vedio suggested by UA-cam... Awesome mam... restoring humanity... Love and support from Tamil Nadu...India...
Heartwarming, touching and raw at the same time. Perfect. Thank you both for sharing
So, what I'm saying is, thank you for living my dream life for me, so I can see what it would be like through your videos.
aaaaa this is amazing!!! so different from everything youve made so far but its still your way of sseing the world and the people in it, yiur storytelling is beyond compare
love always❤
What a great Showcase of humanity and kindness.
I have been in India twice, and there are the most inviting and welcoming people in the world. They will feed you, give a a place to sleep. Very nice people, one of the best so far.

The ending actually gave me goosebumps.. Luke, please never stop making these!
I had to pause the video just to comment. You are going about life in a free way just like Amu, experiencing the world for truly what it is, learning about cultures in ways that books can't teach you. Inspirational. From a fellow tamil subscriber.
What a beautiful self-actualized woman. You stay safe out there.
She is living the good life of her choice. Good job, Luke. Keep it up the great short films and keep making more.
Truly love her energy & message

Amu is such an incredible soul! Amazing video
Wow, extremely inspiring story Amu. Thank you for sharing with us 💖
Very powerful film, thank you for sharing! ❤
one of the most beautiful video that I have ever seen. People have different calling, not everyone is supposed to get married, raise kids , serve husband/wife for rest of their lives. Some are born to travel, meet people and see places but sadly most people dont realize their calling, their inner voice is so buried by the norms of society. I hope videos like this becomes an eye opener for all
You know what Luke, you're making great stuff. I hope the algorithm pick it up more often. I'm glad to see you thriving again!
This was lovely. Based on her past, I see why Amu leans more towards luck than fate❣ Safe travels to you both. 💕

@@HikerGirl you're incredible! ❤
One of the most beautiful and touching videos I've seen online. Something about the raw honesty of Amu's story and your footage. And the unexpected kindness and generosity of people who warmly welcome and share their few material possessions with strangers. ❤
Your narration is quite something ! feels so warm and comforting
