Thanks for the part numbers. I ordered them from Ford, they arrived the next day with free FedEx delivery just as you said. And I just got finished replacing the fiber splash shield with the steel one used on the Raptor. Everything fit perfectly thank you so very much for the video. 👍👏
I chose the DIY option when I discovered that the OEM metal replacement would cost over $300 in Canada. Built my own skid plate by using a thick aluminum highway sign commonly available at the metal recycling depot for $20. I did have to add one or two bends in the plate to get enough clearance under the front torsion bar. 2019 F150 FX4 with 3.5 Ecoboost.
I thought I was just ignorant or somehow missing something when I looked under the truck and saw this cheap felt material. Glad to find this video - it’s not just me. Great tip. Will replace mine too.

I have a 2021 Ford F150 Lariat 4x4, crew cab, and it does have those holes towards the front of the cab. Just make sure you have these before you order the parts.
@@randomuserofprogram You would still need to drop the pan to change the filter. The old felt one needs to come off for each oil change, that is why the all wear out.
I used to do my own oil changes but too old and broke down to do it myself anymore, so I take my truck into the dealership for this. Now, if I replace the flimsy fabric splash guard with this metal one, will the dealership mechanics have issues with removing it to do the oil changes?
Sitting in a public place watching, so I may have missed it with the sound low - What website do you order your parts from ?? Excellent video - thanks!
I went to buy metal replacement (part # HL3Z- 7222-E) from dealer and dealer advised me that it not compatible for my 2018 platinum crew cab with 3.5 turbo. Does the metal one need modifications to use?
For the forward mount area, between the two 8mm nut-clips on the truck, there's a support tab. Did you bend that up out of the way to get the plate flush on the 8mm bolt clip mounts?
If you’re comparing apples to apples the SD will always be more expensive. Factor in the oil burner and your on average about 15k more when you compare trim to trim.
Already had a 2020 F350 SD Ultimate Lariat, traded it for a 2020 F150 Platinum. Loved the SD, could not justify having it and not using it as it was made for.
Nice video, I had to cable tie one side of my diaper twice in the last year, saw this video and ordered the parts from Ford online, got a discount and free shipping.
Thanks for the video and info. The poopy diaper on my 2018 just began coming off and they want like $130 for the same poopy diaper brand new at the dealership.
Just put my new one on. The paper mache flew off while going down the interstate... Really should be a recall, could have seriously injured someone because it actually took some of the metal brackets with it... So my steel plate isn't attached up front, just on the sides which I think should be good enough.
I noticed the AC water leaks out the truck around that area. I just removed mine and no issues. Probably better for cooling with it off. I still have number yo number warranty. May get ford to replace it. Steel one does not make sense to me either. Rust.... Maybe carbonfiber? 😂
From the videos I’ve seen, you will have to remove it. But there is another cover right in front that I’ve seen people remove. It makes a small gap, but everything still looks protected. I’ve read a few guys did this and after a few years it rattled a bit regardless of how tight the bolts are. My original splash shield has been hanging by zip ties for two years now. I can’t believe I’m using zip ties on a truck this new and expensive
No noticeable difference as far as I can tell, and I've put a lot of highway miles on the truck since I installed. If there is any additional noise you can't detect it in the cabin.
Yep that is the part he is missing. Unless he got the FX4 package, his truck never came with skid plates. I don't know what that felt looking thing is but is clearly isn't a skid plate.
Just put on my powerboost , simple install, except passenger side front mounting tab, holes in frame for retaining nut clip is blocked by coolant lines. So either don’t bolt that tab or take out mount for coolant lines then install clip and use low head fastener in this postion
HL3Z-7222-E skid plate does not fit my 2021 F150 XL . Front side brackets do not line up. Also the nut clips are too big to fit in the front slots in the frame.. *the slot for the front nut and bolt hole are positioned two inches forward and are vertical rather than horizontal like your truck…. * Update I just installed the skid plate without the front side brackets, Should hold but may have have to weld brackets to the plate and try to fasten to frame.
Broseph I get it. Mine doesn’t even come with an engine cover. I thought the shippers stole it😅 All that light weight stuff is besides the obvious is for heat dissipation. I’d love to have a larger steel oil pan for noob off roading. But like pa would say- boy your looks are gonna get you far, cause it sure won’t be your noodle or you doodle doing the work.
Unfortunately this guy is wrong in stating this works on all these year F150. My 2019 has a completely different front frame where the clip nut goes in. It is just an angled oval that is thicker around the oval and will not allow that clip nut to slide in.
The part you took off was not a “skid plate”, it was an air deflector installed for fuel economy purposes. You can thank your federal government for that. If you wanted a truck with skid plates you should have bought a truck with skid plates.

Nice video man, do you have to drop this pan for an oil change? Or can you reach the plug from behind the new pan? Thanks!
