Being an older user I'm happy to see this happen, it really only benefits me and my friend groups. What are the arguments against this? I suppose if you don't have a current ID it will be an issue. I realise it may also create problems for people around 18 with friends below and above that age. And then there are people that just don't want to give any personal info away, which I understand, but VRChat has modified the process so basically no personal information will be stored after the Age Verification process has completed, which I feel is rather fair honestly. Personally I feel this had to happen and overall its going to improve the experience for many, if not most players.
So, most of the people barking out against this are just minors or extreme tinfoil hat privacy worry-worts (who also use Facebook and have a Twitter account, so that confuses me and invalidates their privacy claims). This is purely a good thing, there is literally no downside.
@@SkbBoy-c4s Just for clarification: the verification is done by a third party company called Persona. VRC won't see any of your documents. But who knows if Persona handles data responsible, of course.
and people who are afraid of their age due to precedent, some minors lie just to have a better chance at having frineds, speaking from past experience but I heard about more people :)

Not really. The system they're partnering with has been known to steal information so a lot of normal people are against it as well. I wanted to get notifications for when the beta came out but since groups can verify I think I'll just do that. Sounds safer imo.
1:11 The opposite of the end; its high time internet/online safety gets taken more seriously. It was gross dealing with weirdos when I was a minor & it chased me off of online platforms once I turned 18+. VR chat interactions are more realistic than oldies like IMVU or Second Life so ID verification is a plus. It's understandable not everyone will have an ID or feel comfortable giving that information. But this is no different than going to a bar or getting under 18 wristbands at clubs.

I honestly think it’s a great thing because it can stop kids accidentally ending up in adult places and getting exposed to drinking or seeing anything inappropriate. I think we’ll have to wait and see until it becomes available for everyone. My biggest fear is that even after it’s fully implemented, predatory groups might advertise their events as having no verification necessary and take advantage of the fact that a lot of kids may join. Hopefully we don’t end up with a bunch of rings of unverified children mixed with adults…
Have you come across anyone over 18 saying age verify is bad? I've only heard people talking about waiting for this to come out. It's a safety feature. The only people upset by this are going to be under 18 and they can go troll each other in their non age verified lobbies. I'm 100 percent for age verifying and will mostly be in age verified lobbies.
ive been playing vrchat for 7 years and i do have to say that i am happy vrchat is doing something like this, but a lot of people hate it and call it data hoarding thing, and i understand that but at the end of the day, i wouldnt say it is and id say vrchat doing this is smart, cuz honestly it shouldnt be a under 18 age game.... IN GENERAL i think VR should be sold to only 17+ people
that's not how this works tho, this only prevents minors from getting into 18+ instances. Adults will still have full access to where kids hang out int the game. This does not help keep minors safe at all.

Where can I find the groups that were granted age verification? There is a yellow badge saying "get age verifyed" on my profile where the age verified badge would be, when I click on it, it only shows a message to explaining some basics about age verification. Sorry I might be a little slow
my only issue is I don't have a government issued ID, and I'm not gonna go out and pay £80 for a passport just to get age verified, not only that i've heard some concerning things with regards to the company vrchat has chosen to do the age verification thing, but for those willing to do it, I guess it's a boon for those people? I mostly stick to friend group and the main public world I go to (R.E.P open mic night) doesn't have plans to make their events 18+, so it causes no issues in my case

i like the idea of age verification, dont think is going to stop kids from entering 18+ spaces as they always find a way but it will limit it and deter the bad things that can happen, either accidental or malicious
This is absolutely going to stop children from accessing 18+ spaces in the long run. Sure, for right now they might lie to their parents and have them "identify" for them, but once their account is banned, that ID cannot be used again for another account to verify. They'll be locked out, forever, the instant they get caught the first time
Yeah unfortunately it will be "mandatory" to play once it's given to all groups that want it. I see most instances just being for age verified user. Making the game unplayable for those who chose to not hand over all their personal information to a "trusteed source" to verify. You also really shouldn't need a selfie/face scan. And you shouldn't have to show your entire ID. Date of birth and your ID picture should be enough.
The only issue with that is without a face scan kids can just use there parents id and boom they are in. I do agree with the whole blocking out unnecessary information but I wonder if that information is used to verify its an authentic id and not a fake

From what I can see so far, people storming groups what have the age verification just to get it. So I think that's actually VERY desired feature by many. I will get verified once it will be available for everyone. I am not rushing like others :3

I'm 17 I gotta wait like 5 months for an Id and its gonna be trouble for all my friends who are 18 wanting me to join instances when I can't and this is what I have been dealing with for years when I was younger too I still didn't go to the instances

First and foremost, I have nothing against age verification, and I am looking forward to it. Second, VRChat mislabels and markets their new implementation as "Age Verification", but in reality it's a "Person Verification", but that doesn't have a nice ring to it, doesn't it? Third, most people on this planet have a near-zero understanding of the impact of neglecting their data privacy and are willing to give any random company all their data without hesitation. Fourth, in Europe we already have a neat eID system that allows companies to verify that a user is above/below an age threshold, without sending additional and completely unnecessary data. I just want to protect the less privacy-oriented people from running into a knife, because they don't know any better. VRChat must allow age verification without selfie upload and with ID obfuscation (as mandated by countries in Europe).

@@20nik This is a TOS thing. The TOS is supposed to state each and every rule that they can enforce. An "alternate account" is listed so that users banned do not return or are banned alongside alts. In reality, there are many who alt simply to allow themselves to chill on an account not tied to their online identity, along with many who use alts separate recording POVs. When asked in the Age Verification thread about alts, they said that they understand their uses and that they plan to, post launch, investigate adding support for legalized VRC age verification alting. I'm assuming the idea would be "subaccounts" not visually tied to other accounts but instead similar to a "Steam Family" where if one user of the family is banned, the rest go down with them. That is just an assumption based on their generic response.
