Long-time Apple computer tech here - I bet that container full of paper slips has the screws taped to it! When I work on complicated laptops (an old 12” PowerBook has 85 itty bitty screws in 15 sizes), I put a loop of packing tape inside a Tupperware, and stick the screws to the tape in spatial order, and in removal order. You can draw diagrams and labels with a marker right on the adhesive next to the screws! They stay on the tape no problem (stainless, plastic, brass, etc won’t stick to a magnet), but an errant brush could knock them off, so the Tupperware bowl and a snap lid keeps you from knocking them off when waiting for parts. It may not work for a pinball machine - but for Ronnie’s antique repair or a game console, it is really useful.
The customer did everything possible to make your job easier. I repair power equipment, and while I don't want customers to try to repair things before bringing them to me, I do appreciate when they make sure they don't lose any parts or hardware. Taking pics of every stage of disassembly is exactly how publishers of repair manuals do it.
The varistor might still need to be changed if you want that protection, since it was set up for 230V from the factory it would have a 275V varistor. He may have changed it but it should be checked to see if it was changed to what is listed in the schematic. Although with the voltages we have at home today a 130V might be too close to normal line voltage, maybe go to a 140V varistor. This machine uses sound clips from the movie, so watch out for content strikes... I like most of the music and sound in this game but there are a couple of sound clips that get annoying.
I cant wait until we get to the part where the Lyons brothers mount a 200 foot mast on the roof to catch a lightning bolt to bring it to life!! Maybe a companion Amateur Repair video where Ronnie builds a complicated vacuum tube power amplifier 😄 ... Off to check on your brother Donnie, Have a good weekend!
I just looked it up... Mary Shelley wrote her first draft of Frankenstein in 1817 when she was 19 and it was first published in 1818. I also thought it dated from the 1830s and, while I knew she was young when she wrote it, I didn't realize she was that young. That's pretty amazing. Given she was hanging out with "Mad, bad and dangerous to know" Lord Byron when she wrote it, and knowing his penchant for opiate use, I have to wonder if Mary might have had a bit of chemically induced inspiration.
Awesome work. This will not only be a massive undertaking for you, but will be an awesome resource for anyone repairing a Sega pin. Appreciate all you do.
Ron, you've taken on a "monster" job here. Really looking forward to the rest of this series, your methodical approach and sense of humour are really appreciated
Je vous souhaite de sauver cette machine. C'est un très bon flipper que je possède et que j'aime beaucoup. Ce n'est pas le plus beau, mais il est fun et intéressant. Un écran XL, un multibilles X 6, TOP! 🥳👍Bon courage.
My head is spinning! Ronnie you made a call-back to (and a fist shake at) the Whirlwind game for flippers it didn't but did have and that you hadn't started but of course is finished. Time travel tenses are hard. 42.
By the way you might try contacting your power company. They can tweak the outlet voltage down a little bit by making an adjustment on the pole transformer. You'll never know until you ask.
There's just not the words to describe how much I'm gonna enjoy the next few instalments! Spooky themed pins are my guilty pleasure. And yeah the novel was outstanding. Awesome work guys!
Very apropos to the game's theme and what you have to do. Not to promote other things, but my wife has a podcast where she talks about the life and death of people. She recently talked to college professor all about Mary Shelly and her writing of Frankenstein. It was all part of a whole thing she did. (I'd put a link to her podcast, but, again, do want to without asking permission). Thanks for putting together this series in time for Halloween. Looking forward to the rest of it.
WWWWHHHHHHYYYYYY?!?!?!?!? Me and my big mouth. A week ago I said the Frankenstein looked interesting. But THIS?!? I wouldn't have wished it on you for the world, no matter how apt. The monster wasn't Frankenstein, the monster was the guy who did this to the poor table!
I really wish someone would make a custom Halloween 3 Season of the Witch pinball machine All the cool things you could build The masks, Silver Shamrock, the doors with Restricted Area The screen with the pumpkin The 3 networks Misfire The robots So many cool features
Any reasons why the primary of the transformer is Divided by 2 using 2 separate primary coils? By dividing the primary coil into 2 would make the transformer dissipate less heat or consume less energy?
To be honest, I'm reminded of some of the other channels I watch that have weekly/monthly installment 'subscription' model kits, except they have (hopefully) all the parts all at once here.
Looks like a fun project! I look forward to watching you play it. I'm guessing that he was going to clean it up, and maybe do some soundproofing, but the pictures didn't help him when he tried to put it back together. He was in over his head
he took it completely apart to Mylar the play field. that play field should be mylared due to the fiend throwing the balls onto the play field and the ball drops off the ramps onto the playfield. geneva hole looks like very little wear. hopefully you tested the fiends control servo before you reassemble him. when my dmd died I replaced it with the color dmd and it looked great. I also added plasma bumpers but for you to sell it it is definitely overboard.
There's a lot of parts on top of that playfield. If you need any closeups of the playfield I can send you pictures. have one in my pinball room. It is also one of my favorites. I loved the movie...cheesy as it was.
The methodical approach makes perfect sense to me--and as you frequently say, start at the wall and work your way up. Though I do wonder, when you get the coin mech put back in, will you use the song 'Feed my Frankenstein' as background music? :-) (granted, it's one of those songs with a lot of euphemisms for things that might not be appropriate for the channel)
Great start to the series Ronnie, This is a true project here. Good luck on this one. Happy Halloween to you and Joey. Love the drawing those might come in handy. See you on the next video.
🎃 I have every confidence that you will have it singing "Puttin' on the Ritz" before Halloween! 😂 Starting off with the wrong voltage, cut wires, and the beast in pieces 🤠 Yeehah, you got a real challenge this time but I believe in y'all! 💪
Update on my williams laser ball the Grey wires from transformer only have 2.3_3.1 volts. Can you repair the transformer or do i need to buy a new one any advice would help 😅
Hi Ron, I have a question - Since the power coming out of the wall here in the US has been jumped up, is there any way to put a device in the cabinet that will reduce it back down to 115v like the machine expects? Secondary question, would that preserve the life of any electronic or incandescent components? Low voltage can cause errors on computer boards, but high voltage can just fry things. Seeing higher than ideal voltages concerns me. Thanks in advance if you reply, and also thanks for sharing your repair process with us all. You don't have to do that, but I appreciate it!
You probably could lower it but I've never worried about it. A few volts here and there and then the regulated voltages end up where they're supposed to be anyways. So if a 5v regulator gets 13 volts into it instead of 12 volts into it, it will still put out 5v. Some of them can accept up to 30 or whatever and still put out 5...
When you get around to the Chicago Coin Sharp Shooter in the background, can you make videos on it? I have one and would love to see what you do to get it working.
I think you have the transformer wired wrong. It seems to me like the transformer connector has the white wire coming in on pin 4, and should have that moved to pin 7.
I think the foam was for you to hold over your face and scream into after seeing all the parts and pieces. Or you could you could use it to lay your head on to let your brain rest.
May I be the first to say it’s Frankensteins Monster, Dr Frankenstein created it. PENDANTIC much 😂 or at least until I got 13 minutes in and you said it
@@LyonsArcade I have read it, and I agree the correct interpretation should be that Dr Frankenstein is the true monster for having created it, but as I said being pedantic its technically his monster, as though it has no name that is how he describes it himself. I didn’t mean to offend I was just raising the common trope as a comment

I actually appreciate the deliberate approach. Helps me keep up!
This is a game that’s truly gonna show off your awesome skills. This should put you through your paces. …This will be lots of fun.
Thanks for filming this delicious Hallowe'en treat, Ronnie and Joe!

My favorite pinball machine! I have one sitting in my office right behind me and I look forward to seeing this one put back together!
I just looked it up...

Gosh, its so fun to hear you gush about Frankenstein!! The doctor really was the true monster!
Tune in Tuesday for the next chapter of Frankenstein! Thanks for the video Ron. You and Joe have a good weekend!
Nope. Watching you guys putting this puzzle together should definitely NOT be a disappointment.
Wow! That is a project! One bite at a time.
I love your long series repairs like this :)
It's a KIT!!
Putting that back together looks fun
This is such a cool game. The music and sounds on this game are so cool. They did the book justice!!
This will be great!
Hey Ron!! And Joe!!
Ron, you've taken on a "monster" job here. Really looking forward to the rest of this series, your methodical approach and sense of humour are really appreciated
I really enjoyed this machine in the arcade and currently have it on my virtual cabinet :)
Neat job so far. Great start.

I’m am so fricken excited for this project series !!!! Halloween special 2024 !!!!! Good stuff guys !!!!!
But the Whirlwind has flippers now!!!!😂
Mary Shelley would be proud 😊
Yes! I loved the Dracula series last Halloween (I found the channel via a Wizard of Wor video, but the Dracula pinball series got me hooked.)
The pile of parts is so overwhelming!
Excellent, as usual!
By the way you might try contacting your power company. They can tweak the outlet voltage down a little bit by making an adjustment on the pole transformer. You'll never know until you ask.
Appropriate is the word you're looking for! Cheers Ron! Apropos means by the way.
Looks nice

Do more like this please 😊😊❤❤
Robert deniro I don’t think it did that well. Cool game though. He throws pinballs at you. Great pin

You can put the maps on your refrigerator like a kid’s drawing.
Ah yeah the spookyween'o'time is here!
Looks like a mess, but you guys have the skills and patience.
Hope you will show us the parts that are left when you have finished restoring it😆
It's not fixed "right" unless you have at least one or two screws left over.😅
Oh, you can get that done in 20 min.....lol Happy Halloween. Thanks for the vids.
It’s sort of alive ! It’s sort of alive !!! 😂😂 Dr Frankenstein ( Ron ) and Igor ( Joe ) are going to get this monster put back together again !!!!
This pinball machine is what I would call a basket case it looks like you have a big jigsaw puzzle on you hands
To be honest, I'm reminded of some of the other channels I watch that have weekly/monthly installment 'subscription' model kits, except they have (hopefully) all the parts all at once here.
You start at the plug, Ron!
I'd never agree to fix someone's abandoned project. It's a restoration, and having to undo all the past sins as well.

Do you have a link to buy that pin extraction tool?
amzn.to/3YjWF3d
Of course! And it gives em a little tip for sending you there :-) I don't shop Amazon but thanks for supporting the channel for my enjoyment!
Of course Frankenstein is in parts... has Frankenstein ever NOT been in parts? DUH!
Needs a Tesla Coil
Why would you take the whole thing apart nuts.
👍👍👍😎☕

I definitely will, it'll be 2025 sometime
Actually the owner mapped what he removed! So you should in theory be able to re-assembly by number so to speak. Barring anything missing, or broken?
Why would they take it down so far 😅
Does it smell burnt
Great show again, where can I get Molex connectors and pins now that Great Plains electronics has closed

Clearly the guy wanted to preserve the playfield from heavy ball action and got lost.

Why did they disassemble this pinball?
I guess one can only speculate...
A European voltage to US voltage conversion. Ugh.
