I made an Ironman after coming back from a break. I got 2600 total, quest cape, and all gw2 boss log. I felt burnt out so I transitioned it to a main and haven’t look back since. Ironman taught me a lot about the game, especially bosses I’ve never done before. My life got really busy so mainscape fits my lifestyle better. I have an appreciation for both.

I think it's about what you want to do and how much time you can commit to it. I recently achievement Master Completionist cape. 1 month shy of 15 years. Couldn't imagine some of the buyable skills to 104M xp, 120. There's also Trim Comp and some of the grinds that are crazy like the champion scrolls. Can take hours of cannoning to get a drop and there are 13. 1/5000 drop rate.

Yeah I have been debating with this for a few days now and I think I've decided a main account is the best option simply because:
I can still force myself to learn the game and do the skilling spots for a little bit, then once I get bored just level past it.. kind of like a fast-forwarded version of the full game experience
I'm still planning to not do MTX and experience everything the game has to offer, but I want to see everything before I end up burning myself out before I get to the later game

I've been a socalled mainscaper for 18 years now, still played the game as if I were blocked off GE's trading post system - I did trades with players in person to refill their resources (pots and foods) back when GWD1 was new... never enjoyed bossing or slayer, got my QP cape 2 weeks prior to divination release (still in my bank!). Recently got my first two 99s (weird with 18 years existance, but IRL required my attention).

Ok so I understand that Ironman mode is harder and CAN be something that makes you feel like you progressed more but I think it depends on the person. Just cause I am on a main doesn’t mean getting a 120 in a skill isn’t any less rewarding. Especially since Jagex themselves came out and said Ironman mode was NOT the way they intended people to play the game in the first place. Yes, some people feel more rewarded by playing Ironman but I don’t. It feels like more of a grind for absolutely no reason to me. By the time you get the item you were grinding for 1,000 KC on a boss you just want to stop and do anything else. The only positive note I have on Ironman is Hardcore Ironman. Now that I can understand playing. I play that on OSRS and you are not only restricted as an Ironman but if you die you are done. That gives a real sense of achievement. All of the sudden that 1,000 KC on a boss to get 1 item realllly feels good cause if you died at all then your account was done. That makes more sense to me. If it’s a regular Ironman, to me, it just feels like a waste of my time.

I've played a lot of ironman lately. Playing my normal accounts ironically feels kinda cluttered with junk from things like TH and related promos. I'm not against it per se, but It's extra clutter on top.
I do still occasionally miss the GE. Ironman mode tends to be "Hoarders, The Game". You do get good at punching up the ladder in PVM. Feels good when you realize that you have great gear and it's exclusively through your own efforts.
Needing to play everything has really opened up what I can viably play. I don't recommend ironman to new players though at all for the reasons you mentioned. It's hard without an encyclopedic knowledge of the game. After decades of weekly updates, the game is kinda big.

My 2006 account got transfered to rs3 and never played it until logging in during dxp a year ago (didnt know what dxp was). What took me almost 2700 hours in game time to get to att94,str98,def92,magic96 and ranged 91 in 2006 took me one afternoon during dxp to bring all of those to 99. After that I got summoning from 1 to 80 the next day, crafting and smithing from around 40 to 80 and herblore from 70ish to 98. Felt destroyed after this, seeing how I ruined my account in one weekend. No sense of achievement, no joy, just hopelessness to realize this is how things are now. As I got a firecape back in the day after so many attempts of preparation, trial and error, and eventually getting one, I ended up doing both fight caves pretty much going in blind the week after dxp. I quit after that again.

Both as an ironman, i got bored with my maxed mainscape account. I am not doing lots of progress because I have a job and go to uni so I dont play that much, but any little progress I do feels very good, bc its on an ironman. Obly thing for rs3 is: watch thersguy interface guide to set it up, its a shame they made it so clunky, but once its set up youre ready to go. Id suggest play both (on the same acc so you only need to pay once) and just enjoy the journey I am midgame now and can really enjoy it, I dont care for efficiency too much it really destroys the game imo

Its not harder to play, it just takes much longer, especially as an adult thats relevant to me. So i started doing this: i went back to my main but instead of always going for the best weapon/perk/efficiency whatever i just play how i like. If i want some bandos components why buying them? Havent been at graardor for ages! And even if i get unlucky and inpatient, ge is always just one step away so i can help my "luck" with those gps i got from flipping. I relearned the game as an iron, after not playing for years. The issue with learning on a main is, you can just go and buy your way to completion. As an iron, sure, the grind is longer, but you learn pretty much all aspects of the game, including the ones you'd skip past as a main. The result is a better understanding of the game. Ironman isn't harder… It's just more time-gated, you have to gather and kill everything yourself.
It's a good concept for those with lots of time to spend, or an insane amount of patience and dedication.
This isn't the case for the majority of players, though, most people either have a full-time job and have been playing the same account for years.
Or they're students with far too much time to play, like we the old guard used to have.
Imagine growing up playing this video game over the past 10-15 years spent on building an account (Which by the way, is still the majority as the average player has spent 8 years on this game), meanwhile you work a full-time job now, maybe even have a family.
Most don't have the time required to play as an ironman.
Play whatever game mode suits your situation, if you have the patience to grind for everything yourself and have the patience and capability to accept that you might go hundreds of hours dry on RNG, become an ironman.
If not, play a normal account.
Achievements are set by yourself in this sandbox game, they can still feel rewarding even on a normal account.

mainscape burnt me out. you buy all your resources/gear to skip playing the game, so that you dont have to play the game.
once youve maxed and got full bis, which you can do in less than a year, you no longer have a reason to play outside of socialization, comp, 120/200m. most people arent going for 200m, or even 120 unless its a "real" 120.
you grind gp for...nothing. its not about just wanting to only pvm, otherwise you wouldnt do only the highest gp/hr boss. and thats only for the ones that actually pvm in the first place.
i wouldnt be surprised if pvmers/compers are a minority, feel like people stop as soon as they hit 99 or 120 in skills like herb/farm/etc and then just farm gp for no reason. dont train with the gp, dont go for comp, and buy bis and then never use it on anything harder then normal mode arch glacor. and then dont even socialize after speeding their way to a socialization only point.

    • @zeldapro18
      @zeldapro18 Рік тому

I would think there'd wouldn't be a way to actually know that for the majority of the playerbase. And now with death costs -90% of what they use to be pvm is less intimidating. As a 15 year player I couldn't see playing normally maxing an account of 99s and maybe real 120s AND BiS gear in less then a year unless you spend irl money on the game. There's always something to buy even if it doesn't do anything. If you're playing this game and like it you have to set goals for yourself. Smaller goals for a big one you may want. Lastly there many ways to make gp and enjoy doing it; pvm that you doing need high level gear or skills to do. Skilling, clues, etc.

After playing an ironman, I genuinely have no idea how anyone enjoys mainscape. When you're essentially able to buy everything you could possibly need off the GE, it completely disincentivizes doing anything that doesn't make you the most money. I mean, hell, you could pretty much buy all boss drops off the GE using the money you get from farming a single boss over and over again. Need barrows gear? Cool, you don't even need to do Barrows; just buy it.
Don't get me wrong-there are absolutely some ironman grinds that feel blatantly unfair and make you want to switch to a main account (herblore being a prime example). However, some of the really interesting grinds that you have to do as an ironman (such as mining tens of thousands of gems to get 80 crafting, doing the tuska minigame for early-game magic gear, etc.) really adds a ton of depth to the game and helps you to appreciate the journey of progressing far more than a mainscape account ever could.

Technically you don't if you have a main account which is probably why people never mention it. You can even make an account just to buy membership for yourself.
Of course, would be a massive hassle.

@@ChevalricRS There are bonds in both RS3 and OSRS.
Ironmen can't use the GE lol
Someone can use a bond on you though (non-ironman using bond on ironman).

      @@soufsoufs That's how I started on RS3 lol
Had members from OSRS funding my RS3 main. Now I use RS3 main money.
Tbh it's a bit of a hassle but yeah it's all fun.
