Use Word + Excel to Analyze Qualitative Data with Seth Tucker

- Extracting meaningful findings from qualitative data requires an evaluator to have the right tools to able to organize, code, and immerse themselves in the data. This can be difficult when dealing with large amounts of data or when there is a lack of access, comfort level, or desire in using coding software. However, rigorous qualitative analysis can be done using tools that many people are already familiar with - Microsoft Word and Excel. In this interactive workshop, Seth demonstrated how to use Microsoft Word and Excel to define, organize, and analyze qualitative data in a way that is practical, efficient, rigorous, and fun.
Participants left this session with another tool in their qualitative data analysis toolbox without the need to buy or learn analysis software.
Seth Tucker is an alum of American University’s Project Monitoring and Evaluation Certificate Program. Seth is an evaluation analyst at TCC Group, where he uses qualitative and quantitative methods that incorporate machine learning, social network analysis, and natural language processing. Seth has previously coordinated, as well as managed and analyzed data, for evaluation projects in Latin America and the United States related to Fair Trade, Social Return on Investment, Property Formalization, Adult Education, and Sustainable Agriculture, among others.

Sometimes we need to focus on the simple tools we have been using so far to do our work and not be chasing necessarily softwares which have additional cost and are complex to use. I wonder if there is any academic publication about this methodology, i would love to reference it for my analysis. Thank you, very very useful.
I am impressed with this process and its effectiveness. However, is there a method that utilizes MS Forms to encode data from the results of an MS Forms qualitative questionnaire, exported to an Excel spreadsheet, to create a codebook similar to what was produced from MS Word in your presentation?
Thank you. Very helpful. Regarding the step of copying the comments the option of Ctrl + shift+ end did not work for me. But if you put the cursor on the first comment and press shift+down arrow will highlight and allow you to copy all the comments. Your video open a new window for me to analysis my data but as well expanded immensely my research now :0)
Audio-transcription from a recording does not work on google-docs - I have tried numerous times. I think there may be something to the need for direct voice vibrations for it to work
When I copy & paste into Excel it only pastes the comment (coding) but not the text that has been highlighted/coded- can anyone help with this?
If you really want to have that text be in the resulting spreadsheet, you would have to add insert it between semicolons at the end of the comment.
The other lady is reading from the screen ... Her head moves left to right to left to right...
The guy with the black glasses is also moving his head too much reading from screen notes...also does not set tone
She needs to speak more slowly and clearly...she did set the tone...needs to do serious practice...too much B's at beginning...get to the point
