    Love the info! One suggestion is on the garden layout screens, it would be helpful to also list the zone & sun or shade preference for the layout group.

    Have added lots of bunny resistant perennials which are also drought resistant. Thanks for your valuable advice for our Zone 5a. Happy gardening all ! 🌈

    Thanks Heidi, very helpful! I added several varieties of heuchera last year and it's so nice seeing the small pops of color in the yard still. Here in central Ohio they've held up rather well for it being their first winter.

    • @gardencrossings
      @gardencrossings  5 місяців тому

      Yes, they are semi evergreen in the north and do give a splash of color in the winter.

    Thank you for part 2? Corlbells do some of them that do sun or shade???

    • @gardencrossings
      @gardencrossings  5 місяців тому

      Many will grow in sun or shade. Usually the lighter they are the less sun they can handle.

      Add some annual salvia or cannas in for a great upright thriller.

    Can you do a video for plants for shade, deer resistant and sandy soil?. I'm on the east side of MI near Lake Huron. Even though we are on the edge of forests we have very sandy soil. Huechera don't do well here.

    Thank you, i thought I'd plug in some of these suggestions into my established garden. But what about trees, mungo pines, arboviataes and false cypress. Where would you add these?

    • @gardencrossings
      @gardencrossings  5 місяців тому +1

      I would probably add them to the back of this garden design. This design is based just on perennials but certainly trees, shrubs and annuals can be worked in.

    Be advised, here in TN the Japanese Beetles LOVE my hardy hibiscus 😡 I’ve tried all the “natural” solutions (not very effective and you have to constantly be applying them), Bayer rose and flower systemic fertilizer/pesticide worked the best (if you’re ok with using poison)

    • @paulamaher1633
      @paulamaher1633 5 місяців тому

      Here in central Iowa I have problems with those ugly bugs eating my roses. You're right. The only thing that kills them is pesticides which I don't like to use. I dug out my roses last fall. I would love to have a hibiscus but heard those beetles like them too so passed on planting one

    • @gardencrossings
      @gardencrossings  5 місяців тому

      That is true, they do like them. You may need to selectively spray this plant if it is a problem.

    • @kkeenan536
      @kkeenan536 5 місяців тому

      Yep, I’m digging up my only rose and that hibiscus ☹ they were both here when I moved in but after fighting the beetles for two years, I’m done! Now I research every plant I want to see if the beetles like it 👍@@paulamaher1633

    Parts of my garden get approximately 3 hours of afternoon sun, would shade plants or sun plants do better in this area?
