- This is a video of Ginger Baker playing live at , The Evening For Jack Bruce, which was held at The Shepherds Bush Empire on the 10 /2016.
It was an incredibly rare performance as Ginger plays live so little now due to his ailing health.
Even in his later years, his timing was faultless. A true legend
This is the best drummer ... ua-cam.com/video/7Kx1GVYPOos/v-deo.html
Who would not admire this great musician for coming out to pay tribute to his life-long friend, in spite of the fact that he himself was in recovery from a very serious surgery?
He was a very special musician. I don't know how much his irascible nature was an act, or real, but he was unmatched at his craft.
RIP Ginger.. God have mercy on your soul ..you were one of the best on the skins and brought a lot to Rock n Roll and drummers who were comming up
Today a caption has left our world. But Ginger Baker's legacy will never be forgotten!
Thank you Mr. Baker! You were the guy who inspired me to start drumming. may your soul rest in peace. You'll never be forgotten!
He's still the master of rhythm! Ginger always has that unique sense of rhythm and timing and he does with a lot of power!
This is lame
@@juliosanchez95 If you have nothing nice to say......
Remember now..... Ginger is in poor health here and is still able to perform this great, and let's not forget he is probably 77 years old when this video was recorded. You criticize a drum God....you are lame for that.
@@juliosanchez95 Piss off punk.
Ginger was without doubt the greatest drummer I ever saw play live. The complex rhythmic patterns he’d lay down during ‘Toad’ solos that gradually built in intensity were mesmerising to witness. One third of the finest instrumental band in rock history, Ginger is a total legend! ❤
Metronomes would be checking themselves against Ginger's left foot...
he was old and sick here
if playing with metronome is the most important thing, then computers are much better musicians...
@@whatever4822 th joke of OP was lost on you I fear. He meant that Ginger Baker's left foot is more accurate than any metronome, which I found very funny :)
You prolly dont give a damn but does any of you know of a way to get back into an Instagram account..?
I somehow forgot my account password. I love any tips you can offer me.
@Zain Nelson instablaster :)
Someone that had a great solid left foot was Ansley Dunbar. I saw him with Journey and when he had his left foot rock on the high hat, it was rock solid regardless of tempo..
1:10 - so damn sweet that phrasing there. Can't describe it but it's one feel over another and it just comes natural to that guy.
He basically plays 3/4 over 4/4 and it goes over the bar line.
Mr. Peter Edward Baker it is so great to see you out playing. Been praying for your health. You are just the greatest inspiration for drummers & musicians.
Umm... maybe read the comment properly...
Cool shit!! He doesn't skip a beat sounds like 50 years ago
Glad you like it, Ralph !
No smoother. 50 years ago he was an F5 rolling thru a trailer park. I saw him with Cream in the 60s. He truly was a force of nature. He never stopped developing his skills and influences.
@@aleleeinnaleleeinn9110 he was a true musician who never stopped discovering ways of improving his drumming e.g. playing with Fela Kuti to perfect his afrobeat. He was smoky the best drummer ever
Still making a difference. Words fail what I just saw.
Thanks for posting this!!
Ginger had the steadiest left foot on the hat-hat while banging out polyrhythms. Downbeats on the hats, kicks for rolls. Badass!
And he was how old here? What a natural! Wow! I was a fan when they formed. I will always say that Cream raised the bar for all the other rock bands to move their music to the next level for that golden era of rock 1967-1973. IMO
Correct best 3 piece band period Hendrix second
Great African rhythms on this number nobody can come close to Mr. Bakers playing
Do you think this drummer is good? ...........ua-cam.com/video/7Kx1GVYPOos/v-deo.html
TY Mathew!! So amazing - he's a genius and this is indeed a rare look at his talent & fire. total force of nature!!
Still better than 90% of drummers today at his age
Kamala 88 your right !!
100 % better then the drummers back then and still 90 % better then the drummers right now !
OVER 9000
Highly overrated
@@michealmaccallum798 agreed
A masterclass in the essential difference between 'power' and 'force'. Amazing.
Thanks for posting! Awesome.
Thank you Mr Baker
Ginger Baker was a real genius on the drums. One of the best ever. RIP
it's going to take alot to keep this man away from the drum's he's an AFRICAN WARRIOR! Love you ging.
Love you, Ginger!
Ginger baker one of a few great drummer's that never needed to show off by going way to fast or hitting the drum's hard as possible, he didn't need that self indulgence like others
A natural. Pure and simple.you either have it or you don't.RIP GINGER.X
White room was my song as a kid growing up learning drums . Thank you ginger . Fly free brother..
An absolute inspiration! I wish I could’ve gotten to play with him
Absolutely smashing
I always loved what ginger did with cream and blind Faith. I always loved his sound his fills and his syncopations. Always an inspiration!!
Ginger needs to get back out there ever so often....his drumming and the audiences....are a life force..for Mr. Baker.....one of the best drummers ever.
Yes, I think your right. He should get out more often & play. Wise words !!
Number eight in my top ten drummers. The seven above him are better than he was.
GINGER BAKER (1939 - 2019)
Drumming like this is otherworldly yesss fthats it
WOW ! at 71 years of age and still has it. Fabulous Ginger :)
He's more like 79.
Just absolutely GREAT!
Even in his last days he proved he was still a master of his craft
A poster man for the saying "If I had known I was gonna live this long I would have taken better care of myself."
It's fun to here the natural "bong" when he plays. I'm a 70s drummer where the fashion was hydraulic heads, top and bottom head suppressors, pillow in the kick drum, always looking for the deep "thud." Then again we couldn't afford the full maple drums so we had to tweak.. And he mics his cymbals for natural resonance. We always mic them from the top to get a brighter, faster, shorter crash.
Funny to think we bought the natural kit and then used every trick to make them sound different than they were designed.
These days I've learned to make them sound the way I want by technique. Oh, and it helps to play lightly and not use logs for drumsticks.
I wish there were MANY more hours of drum cam footage out there somewhere just like this of Ginger playing.
sad and happy and perfect at the same time ...
one of my first inspirations. TOAD
Wow!!🥰🏴
So impressive to see Ginger Baker still playing. He can do things at his age that drummers half his age can't. I remember 'TNUC' and 'Sweet Wine' from the Cream live album..or how about the 'Toad' drum solo? Classic Ginger Baker to be sure. The guy is one of the all time greats and got me to try double-bass drumming (a poor attempt compared to Ginger, to be sure)
One of the original rock drummers who to this day posthumously still has major influence on young aspiring drummers Clapton gave him his moment
really good.
Yeah, Go Ginger Go Baby Go!!!
Incredible! Ginger Baker is very skilled!
Bill Lordan told me one time that Jack Bruce was the best rock star ever to be around. Just nice fellow.
Ringo,Buddy Rich,Ginger Baker and Ian Paice are the drummers that inspired me to play drums.
He's a master the king of drums. He don't go nutzo he's a technician and if he wanted to he could play all of zeppplins songs also. He can play anything. Rest in peace. You're honesty is what pissed people off. But you didn't change or give in to their feelings. Good for you you stood up for you're self and didn't let anyone Bully you. Hope you are up there playing those drums.
Plain and simply he’s the best drummer ever.
The very fact you mentioned zeppelin shows he’ll never live up to bonzo
Bonzo Bonzo Bonzo that's all you ever hear . You know your on top when everyone trys to knock you down . LOL
You guys should give Berriemore Barlow a listen, John Bonham thought he was the best though I disagree. Nobody found the groove like John could , nobody!
@@melvinfigueroa7844 hmm.. possibly .. but I reckon Baker.. though very different.. would have little trouble doing what Bonham did.. perhaps not as loud. Baker was well and truly beyond most of the styles he delved into. He was as slippery as an eel.
There are far better drummers than ginger yes he was a brilliant drummer but pocaro, bonham, peart, purdie etc were better drummers
Yasssssssss. Ginger baker
Wonderful wow
super
GREATEST EVER! God Bless, RIP 🏴🇬🇧
EXCELLENCE
holy crap!! He certainly had something special.
Ginger Baker was the man dude nobody could play like him he was one hell of a Drummer Dude !
Wow Wow Wow!!!
Unbelievably, as of June 2017, he is still playing the occasional gig. They are 'an evening with Ginger Baker' where he does a Q and A session, to give him a rest from drumming I suppose.... So, his professional playing career is now over 60 years and still going.
A godlike performance from a godlike percussionist..........Even Joey Jordison pales into insignificance alongside this giant.....x
Ginger Baker The King!!!
arvid starke The primitive tribal power of Ginger Baker.
King of rhythm.
Rip Mr. Ginger Baker!
The Master.
At this point there 666 Thumbs up, is that a coincidence? Greatest rock (FOUNDER) drummer ever.
😢 RIP, finally relieved of your sufferings into the Grace of GOD'S KINGDOM through JESUS CHRIST, lv from a fellow drummer, you inspired me to learn drumming. !👍👋👏
Mr Baker always at his best behaviour behind a drum kit and excellent
Nice musical tribute to Jack. Musicbrothers they were, could almost not stand each other, but the music kept them together.
Except the first night at MSG where they visibly fought on-stage and had to be separated after the show.
@@justafanintexas7913 Yeah, due to high volume its said
Up to the last day he still could play
Addicted to drum solos
Go Ginger.
You could set a watch by his left foot on that hi hat. Time was Gingers game And he mastered his game.
R.I.P.
My Brother ROCKER R.I.P.
Amazing Drummer he WAS.
Rip Ginger up there with the greats
The best drummer ever
I hope he and Eric can play in public at least one more time...
So do I
Rics playing is now as affected by illness as Ginger is. TOO BAD im sorry to say
gy4b70 - They've played together, twice, before your posting and three times after it. "TOO BAD im sorry to say," you didn't know this.
rReally ? when ? I missed it ! :(..
GB was a beast till the end...
There he is...a past percussion genius.
Fucking great
He was good ,so was Bonham ....
The man is 77 years old!!
THE amazing Mr.GB. last music. R.I.P. The expert of percussionist’s Polyrhythms with hands, body (shoulder’s torso, hips) and feet (legs), are an amazing ensemble to control, especially for long periods. “Trance” Dancers may hold for a few deca- minutes, not many percussionists for hours. !!!!.
THE MASTER and ME
The man is in the house
YOU GOT TO HAND IT TO BAKER 👍
NOT the O2!, no Bruce or Clapton either. Just Ginger, who saw himself as a jazzman, showing here that his years in Africa weren’t wasted. A pathfinder for all who came after.
This was a tribute to the LATE Jack Bruce.
Ginger's playing probably kept him alive for as long as he did live.
o melhor no que faz
💋👏
Always loved his drumming style, very easy to listen to his drum solos not like some which just get a bit boring.
Siempre he admirado a Bonham, pero mi querido GINGER BAKER NO LE PIDE NADA!
Un baterista con un toque africano, una forma de tocar sui generis ! EXCELENTE
🍁
He's like 78 there
he's 78 now, he'll be 79 on August 19 2018
African style, he learnt a lot..
Now, that's a drummer
He got his African beat going on
Ginger liked those African rhythm beats.
just heard today december 30 th 2019 on local news that baker passed ? shore took their time to anounce this in december i am learning he passed in oct of 2019 the 6th if i got it right ,,,,,R I P Ginger .
Everyone stands.
Rare to see Ging playing someone else's kit. Made it his own.
So sick he has to be helped to walk and outplays anyone who dare try to step...R.I.P. Ginger 🙏
Comparisons are odious (Socrates). Beauty is in the eye of the beholder.
