Lures used -
-Panther martin spinner (1/8 ounce, silver), Damiki vault (1/4 ounce, black holo)
Rod/Reel/Line:
-Shimano JDM Aldebaran BFS XG Limited (8:0:1 - 10 lb suffix 832 braid, 10 lb seaguar invisx leader - alberto knot) with a BPS Bionic Blade micro 6'6" med/fast
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Recommended gear - Ultra light or light spinning gear. 6' to 6'6" light or medium/light spinning rod with a finesse spinning reel. Use 4-6 lb monofilament, 6 lb fluorocarbon, or 10 lb braid with a fluorocarbon leader. Fly gear is also very effective for trout fishing.
Tips - Besides deep pools and fishing beneath dams another high percentage area are eddy's, which are small whirlpools that trout can rest/ambush prey from. A prime example of an eddy is a big rock in the middle of fast moving current, the whirlpool forms directly behind the rock.
Another tip is to start downstream and work your way up when fishing (I did not do this in this video). When walking downstream, you can sometimes spook trout that are positioned looking up towards you.
Effective water temps - Trout feed most actively in 50-65 degree water temps, they can tolerate 35-70 degrees, 75+ is lethal to them X.X
Ideal conditions - Trout bite well in sunny or cloudy conditions, the main factor that determines the quality of fishing is water temperature.
Colors - For dough baits use pale yellowish colors in clear water, chartreuse or bright colors in stained water. When fishing lures, use silver/gold to imitate minnows in sunny conditions, solid white in overcast conditions, and firetiger type colors in heavily stained waters.
Hookset - Use a lighter hookset than you would for bass, a light "sweeping" hookset is all that is required when trout fishing. Also, since light line is often utilized, using an excessive hookset will increase your chances of breakage.
Retrieval - Cast upstream when possible and retrieve your bait with the current for a natural presentation. Casting cross current is also effective, but avoid casting downstream whenever possible. Use faster retrieves when fishing in the prime 50-65 water temp. range, then slower retrieves outside of that.

So dense with information. Fantastic sir.
+technoendo I appreciate the feedback, thanks for watching!
I agree!
Awesome video! another cool one is the classic curly tail grub. using a curly tail grub will work really good in the faster waters. I really love your videos!
+Northwest Anglers thanks for the tip, and I apprciate the support!
Very clear instructions! Thank you! Turns out my bait was right; I just wasn't picking great spots, so I appreciate that you included how to find a good spot.
for stocked rainbows my #1 rig is a size 10 mustad hook with corn and a chameleon line leader. all you need right there. then for native browns/brooks I like using rapalas and spinners.
Power bait is for stocked fish
But I do wonder what weight is his line is it 8lb or more or less?
This actually works really well! I went to the same spot I've fished 3 or 4 times before with no luck and I caught 3 trout and 2 sunnies in an hour and a half! 👍👍👍👍👍
i know it is pretty randomly asking but does anyone know of a good place to stream newly released tv shows online?
@Cash Rex Flixportal =)
@Jerry Benjamin thanks, I went there and it seems like a nice service =) Appreciate it!!
@Cash Rex Glad I could help =)
This is by far my favorite channel on UA-cam keep up the good work bro!
I live on a river and have never trout fished before so thank you for all the useful information!
light spinning gear is the way to go
+Jake Radcliff I would also say trout magnets are also extremely effective in clear water. Just switching up the colors usually allows me to stay at a hole for a while.
I always loved fly fishing
Jake Radcliff blue fox vibrax in silver size 0 is my go to. Last year opening day everybody was using trout magnets and powerbait and barely getting hits. I switched from my garlic chartreuse powerboat to the blue fox and limited out in about 20 minutes.
Absolutely, I'm a new to fishing but spinners have helped me catch a few.
I have heard Kastmasters work quite well on trout, what do you think? That's kinda my go-to lure when I have no idea what's in the water since basically anything will go after it
+Shihro Takama kastmasters catch everything, and yeah they work great for trout!
+1Rod1ReelFishing Good to know! I've sworn allegiance to the kastmaster ever since I caught twenty 15+ inch bass on one when the bass were storming the shad and minnow. Think of the mullet run but with largemouth bass!
What kind of rod and reel do you have? Looks like it casts like a dream and is a little stiff. I'm new to fishing and just have a ugly stick right now.
This guy got me my first rainbow trout. Thank you sir!
I trout fish a lot in Missouri. Mainly fly fishing but when I do bring my ultralight out I'll use marabou jigs and the Berkley power worms.
Awesome video! As a relatively new fisherman and just really loving the trout fishing here in MD, this was a great learning video. I have only used the trout magnets and switching colors. I will have to look into using some of the lures you suggested here. Wish they would stock Daniels or Avalon one more time! :-)
+Todd Carrick thanks for watching, and they'll be stocking it again in the spring!
I'd love to see a how to video on reading water for bass , where to look for them, what bait to use, go into a little more detail on your approach ...do you start with top water or bottom lures ect....I'm sure it will help a lot of us
+ufounddiesel74 will cover that in the future!
i'm just gonna put out my experience with this,
So far. I've noticed that bass LOVE to gather around things that are different from the rest of the water, like pipes. rocks, trees. branches in the water. etc, that are along the coast.
They tend to stay around the coast from 8am to 6pm here in CO. Mostly around 12-2 though.
I always, ALWAYS. Start with just a normal nightcrawler, by itself. I do put some air in it though, so it floats a little bit. you can also just use a bobber.
If that doesn't work out, I try top water baits.
And if I don't see bass on the shoreline, I just go out to an interesting part of the middle of the lake/pond. I noticed that if you follow where they pop up, and generally stay around a depth of 15-20 feet. You'll catch them, though they tend to just stay top-water most the time. So try 5 feet deep, with live bait & a bobber. Works well,
Just my noobish experience so far, :)
Are you using eagle claw or no claw?!I saw the fish kept getting loose
Awesome video. What I am missing is how you weren't snagging on all the rocks!?!? That is my biggest issue in this kind of water in SW Ontario rivers
I usually fish for bass and I have 12lb line on my rod. Will that work for trout fishing?
I usually fish the exact same setup as you with power bait, but I switched from size 6 hooks to size 4. I seem to gut hook them less with size 4.
+An Average Spork good thinking with the slightly bigger hook!
i'm just picking this stuff up... haven't fished in 20 years. this is super helpful.
Do you use a float? (I haven't fished since I was a kid)
You really inspired me to fish more I started watching your videos since you started and now I love fishing!
How come you used a medium rod but recommend a light/med-light rod?
Velveeta cheese works great to. I fish it at gunpowder a lot. Kudos to you for being able to throw those light lures as well as you do on that set up. A 6FT OR 6' 6" light action with a spinning reel makes it a lot fun.
+Jj Rayguns i heard that cheese works too! do u think its the color or flavor?
I think the color ha something to do with it, but we did a little test where a friend used yellow power bait and I used cheese. I caught 7 fish to his 3. Ever since that day I always use velveeta cheese. Give I a try sometime
Mike ,you try a Cabellas cheese worm ,take one and break it in half put it on a hook like you would any other artificial plastic ,but put it on just a hook and put a small shot sinker on about 18 inches ahead of the worm then fish away, you can even pull them out of the fast currents just casting and retrieving at a medium pace.My favorite of the many colors is the transparent florecent orange color, fishing with it in streams in several states ,I have caught like a days limit of 6 on just 7 casts.Give it a try you wont be sorry you did.
+Kc Caekaert thanks for the tip I'll give it a shot!
Spinners are a great bait for some people, but for me whenever I use them in my pond, I go to a shallow cove and I literally catch 3-5 inch large mouth bass and white perch. I always let them go but they could be used for bait I guess.
Hey, i'm planning to host a local fishing tournament in Columbus soon for a school project. Any advice for good ponds, rivers, lakes? Thanks!
Idk how u don't have like millions of subscribers Bc ur amazing
What do you use to edit? +1rod1reelfishing
I trout fish a lot when u throw the power bait put a egg sinker on then a snap swivel with a leiter to your hook
Hi I am a new kid at fishing kinda I've only been fishing for three years now and am still learning I've fished almost around the eastern states so far but I am a big fan and also want to ask some questions on good bait for bad like what type of snap shots should I use I like to use 5" worm with neon tail but it works good but not very good action and also what type of other lures for bass if you can answer me and that will be amazing and hope to be able to be in one of your tournaments one day
+Caleb Dunn check out my how-to vids to learn more about lures! ua-cam.com/play/PLv3E4R_nowe0ShIWDAdJgmN05JIOVfxG_.html
Okay thank you very much great vids great help I used a frog today in my lake NEVER HAD THIS GOOD ACTION thank you so much and really hope to meet you one day and maybe play in a tournament of yours one day have a great night and evening
Is this fly fishing? Sorry I am a beginner
What kind of reel and rod are you using ?
Hey. Met you in Bass Pro Shops about a month ago (you were Periscoping). You helped me to pick out a few lures and tackle for trout fishing. What are some other trout fishing spots in the DMV area that you recommend? Any chance that I can join you on the next time out (haha)?
+Mike K. u can try the patuxent river, lake elkhorn, and centennial lake, and I won't be doing any trout fishing for a while, I'll be traveling a lot the next couple months!
Been watching your videos for a while now! Great fisherman! Only tip for you would be to get a dedicated rod for that as well as smaller tackle. Joe Flies are a great recommendation as well as a smaller sized hook. I find that a sized 6 is way to big for trout here in the mountains. I usually fly fish but I have multiple ultra lite poles as well. And as far as the catch and release mashing a hook and using a rubber net are both GREAT ways to ensure survival of even small native brookies!
+William Knicely great info here, especially the rubber net, that's the best way to land trout to keep them safe!
I wanna try one of those damiki vaults! for trout I like carolina rig for power bait (slip sinker cause trout can detect weight), they are also line shy so i go with a 4-6lb flourocarbon leader with small treble (holds dough better), also try berkley mice tails they work great! rooster tails and blue fox spinners have also been good
+EvolvinEvo good advice with the slip sinker! I missed quite a few bites on the powerbait bc the trout felt the split shot
Hey I'm going canal bass fishing this weekend, there is like no visbitlty At all, do you know what kind of lure or bait I should use?
Rattling, dark colors like black, junebug, etc. .
good job mike. awesome vids always. your for sure one of the best fishing youtubers out there. also glad u joined the live chat with flukemaster.
+sampson583 it was a ton of fun! I'll be doing more chats and hoping fishing with him sometime in the future :D
1Rod1ReelFishing what brand of line do you use?
Great Video once again. Never fail to Impress your fans and viewers
+Bass All Day thanks for watching bro, I appreciate the support!
what times/season do you recommend for trout fishing
try grinding off the barbs on those treble hooks. most of those lures would work great with single hooks instead of trebles . I stopped using anything with treble hooks while targeting trout .
Hi, where would you find bass in the uk Suffolk or aren't they here
hey bro I got a chatter bait and a t10 jumpin minnow could u do a review on those lures?
and the reason for wetting hands first before touching trout??
That's how we noodle a rainbow trout... Love it! Mad skills. 😁👌
Awesome Video 1Rod1Reel!!!! I love the creek/river fishing videos, and Great tips!
Nice vid man!! keep it up
Have you ever fished in Castville Missouri in roaring river
are ur treble hooks barbed or barbless
Good video I needed these tips because I'm about to start trout fishing here in Atlanta
Yeah same here, I'm in Texas and am going to fish the Guadalupe River this winter, this really helped. Tight lines!
+hitstick567 thanks for watching, gl catching your first trout!
If ur powerbait keeps falling of ur single hook try a small trouble hook. I've learned the smaller hook the more chance u have to catch more fish same is true with inline spinners the smaller the better.
just letting u know but great tips anyway
You should try salmon eggs. Being from Colorado of course all I do is normally catch trout and that's always been my go to bait. You can get them anywhere you get your powerbait!
Love your videos. Please consider switching out those trebles for single siwash hooks. And pinch down the barb for easy release. You will actually hook and land more fish going barbless.
Pete W really? why, can you explain.
how barbless single hooks catch more fish.
hey man I heard you're in OH this weekend, if you want I might be able to get you on some eyes, bass, or honestly whatever you feel like catching. Im on the site I think i remember you using before you got pretty big page wise. Ohio game fishing right?
when are you posting the vid about the lake you fished today?
+Juan Cruz saturday!
5 PETA members must have watched this video..why else would anyone down vote these kinds of vids?
mojo jojo
How beauty it is! That fish! That view! I wish I could be there! ....cheers from Poland!:)
best fishing channel on youtube, really interacts with his viewers!
+Marcus Rodriguez thanks bro! :D
+1Rod1ReelFishing no problem keep up the amazing vids!
U r an amazing fisherman who inspires me a lot every vid!!! I wanna catch hawgs like u do. Any tips to casting hit far on bait caster without getting a huge back lash
I'm no 1rod1reel but I just recently learned how to use a baitcaster and people will tell you that you can't buy a good baitcaster for less then $80-100 dollars and I find that quite the opposite since my $40 Abu Garcia black max reel is really nice and if you don't have a really nice baitcaster yet I would recommend that one. If you want to cast it properly first set the magnetic brakes and spool tension properly (watch 1rod1reel's vid on using a baitcaster) and make sure you aren't using super light tackle (for now try casting with 3/8 oz lures). And make sure to not do overhead casts when starting out, do a roll cast kind of at a diagonal. Now when you go to cast with those things all good, you should be able to throw it out really far without the thing backlashing hard, but When the lure hits the water just make sure you put your thumb on the spool softly, just enough to slow it down. Good luck mate!
+Shihro Takama yeah I got a Abu Garcia just struggling on casting
+Joshua Linville Cool yeah just get the settings right, that was a real life saver. Also I started casting the way he does (a diagonal roll cast) and I don't know how I fished without it! If you have a body of water near you just get out there and start with a little cast, once you have the little tiny cast down take it out a little further and further until you can get a full cast
+Joshua Linville thanks for watching bro! have u checked out my how-to baitcaster vid yet?
I haven't fished for a bit thanks gets me motivated to get some hits !!
Are u ever going to do a subscriber tournament in Sacramento California
What kind of Aldebaran was that?!
they stock our ponds with rainbow trout mid November I already bought all my stuff usually sells out
+1Rod1ReelFishing when r u going to do a rod and reel arsenal?
Do you do much salt water fishing? Nice video
+Peter Poulakis not too much but I plan to do more in the future!
are you going to post your video with monster mike peacock bass fishing in florida?
+That Guy I'll be posting that in the winter!
What was the temperature outside ?
you should come fish at the california delta there are hawgs here and there and my uncle caught a 6 pounder there on an ish fat frog it was awesome
Is that the same place you caught that pike?
+Frost nope this is a different spot from where i caught the muskie!
Nice video, in the Netherlands we give the powerbait a little twist So it works Just like a spinner
Hey 1rod1reelfishing I have the same rod as you but I don't know what the dial at the bottom is for ??? Please explain
It's to help remember what line was used.
Have you tried fly fishing
It's awesome to see that you try to do your best with ever video
hey its timothy again if you are ever in texas and around dallas irving ive had trouble with these 4 or 7 pound bass at a stream i cant gind the right bait to catch them with
+Timothy Argo hmm try shaky heads with full sized trick worms perhaps? if you use live crayfish 100% guarendeed to catch em xD
Thxs man lol they have been teaseing me all summer
will u ever host a tournament in north carolina
What knot(s) do you use?
how and y do u use baitcaster for this?
What is your bait ?
Great video 👍 I just started trout fishing and it’s fun! Never tried it on a river but definitely gonna try it.
bro you used a fishing pole light ?
I live on a creek where they stock trout and i havent cought one. Any tips? Ive tried inline spinners and power bait but no bites.
Elijah Allen try a drop shot method, one ounce weight with a 13 inch lead ( depends on you and the depths of the creek) , two garlic marshmallows and a worm on the J-Hook
Always putting in work! Allot of good tips, keep up the good work!
where do u fish in the patapsco river??
Try a dragon lonng body silver spinner size 3 they work great for anything from quarter a pound to a 5 pounds brown trout great for wild brownies and stoked ones great vid by the way nice little river
Sweet vid. Short and to the point 👍👍👍👍
Do you put weight on
I live in MI and trying to fish the Manistee River for my first trout which is why I’m watching
Thank you! I go to WV every summer (live in FL). This year i went river fishing and caught nothing. Hopefully i'll get some of those lures and catch some trout next year.
+LiftedSquare13 try out my tips and good luck!
In wv you need the gulp minnow
got a question like if I have a spinner on my bait caster it don't wanna go out into the water it's like I ain't got enough weight can you plz help me man I'm new to a bait caster!!!!!
+Austin Rogers spinning gear is best for light weights, otherwise use a heavier spinner or lighter line on your reel, good luck!
Note: if you're fishing a stock pond, I usually stick with dough baits and don't really use live bait imitations (they sometimes work though)because fish are fed pellets in hatcheries. 1rod1reel is fishing naturally bred fish.👍
Actually, most rainbows in Maryland are stocked.
Try a small bullet weight with a swivel underneath it instead of a split shot.
Yes! I've been waiting for a vid all week😁
do you have to use the lil rock if you use power bait
Jose Gonzalez what little rock? the lead weight?
would u ever consider coming to kentucky and fishing
+ 1 rod 1 reel fishing would you ever come to kentucky and host a tournament or to fish with a subscriber
Why do you wet your hands before grabbing the fish? Great video by the way!
+alexspeed4100 thanks for watching! and trout are more fragile than other fish species, so wetting your hands helps ensure their survival if you catch and release
+1Rod1ReelFishing alright. Thanks. Any tips on bass fishing in the south. I live in South Carolina and mainly fish on lake hartwell but nothing seems to ever bite. I get a couple bass here and there and I've lived here all my life and can't seem to figure these fish out.
+1Rod1ReelFishing another method is to keep the fish in the water when releasing it. It's a bit trickier but it works.
Why do I get stuck on rocks and other stuff and loose my hook or bait or both. Usually when I lose th hook the bait goes with it. Lol.
Garlic powerbait also works really well for me on the trout in the midwest
Do you fly fish?
What state is this video in?
