That there continue to be young women who give themselves totally to Christ and to the service of His Church is an inspiration to everyone - even (and in a special way) to nonbelievers.

@@eneal2056 Francis is not pope because he has preached heresies. It is church teaching, that if a pope was ever to fall into heresy, he would automatically fall from the throne and the seat would be vacant. Such is the case with Francis.

@@sorchawolffe3730 Exactly. I'm an Anglican, but my parents independently converted to Catholicism, and my mum was very devout. It came in at the same time as white wedding dresses for the other brides did, in the mid 1800s. There is a record of St Clare going to St Francis to become a nun in her best finery and he cut her hair. This was about the year 1200. Prior to that, consecrated virgins have worn veils since the very earliest days of the Church. There are references to the veil of virgins in the first century. The consecration of virgins has always carried strong bridal significance. Strangely enough, brides didn't wear veils on their wedding day until about the same time as white wedding dresses came into vogue. This is a tradition they have taken from nuns.
The profession of male religious is not bridal in character as the profession of female religious is. The Church still sees men and women as different. While male religious are brides of Christ, as is the whole Church, there are few men who consider themselves in those terms. Hence, nuns wear rings and monks don't. There may be the extremely unusual exception to the rule, but it is very, very, very uncommon for monks to wear rings.
Be faithful dear Sister, be faithful. Oh, if only the Church would return to the beauty of Tradition. It’s a real shame that the current “pope,” Francis, finds fault with the Traditional Orders. Lord, cleanse the Church of false popes and clergy. God bless these beautiful Sisters. Amen!
@Judy G. It is taught that if a Pope were ever to fall into heresy, he would automatically fall from the throne and the seat would become vacant. Such is the case with Francis. He has repeatedly preached heresies.
I am just curious, I know that these Nuns take a vow of poverty and they are not supposed to consider how they look, but do they get a real haircut to accommodate their new veils or is that how their hair is cut from now on. Does anyone know?
We cut out hair to an inch or two. Any longer than that and it was not only uncomfortable under the veil, it made the veil sit wrong, and it took too long to dry after washing. Nuns don't have a spare 10 minutes in their week to waste on hair, hence they keep it very short.
seamarina1013 They cut the hair as a sign of turning away from the adornments of the world and the body. It’s a symbolic turning away from the person she was before and clothing herself instead in Christ Jesus. In the time of Sts. Francis and Clare, Francis cut Clair’s long beautiful hair when she ran away from her family and home to devote herself to God.
Patsy Hairston Quite the contrary. The groom is Jesus Christ and His Church. Her final vows will be to Him. She is formally entering the novitiate which is the time of discernment, study and prayer after which she and the order will either discern that she has a vocation and take final vows (as marriage) or exit the order if she and/or the order discern that she does not have a true vocation. That ceremony will be her wedding and final.

Does anyone know how the wedding dres/veil tradition started. I know it must be relatively recent but I would be interested in the origins.
Nuns are regarded as the Brides of Christ. That's their wedding day. :-)
It came in at the same time as white wedding dresses for the other brides did, in the mid 1800s. what order of sisters is this?
CMD, the Congregation of the Mother of God. They are partners with the CMRI, the Congregation of Mary Immaculate Queen.
The order is CMD, not CMRI.
Beautiful and I hope she walks in faith always.
Do monks also get rings when they take their vows?
Nope. Rings are specially made only for the Sisters. Monks and priests cannot wear rings. bishops and popes wear rings.
They can. Depending on their rules
The profession of male religious is not bridal in character as the profession of female religious is. The Church still sees men and women as different. While male religious are brides of Christ, as is the whole Church, there are few men who consider themselves in those terms. Hence, nuns wear rings and monks don't. Lisa Saunders to my understanding yet they keep it short
The Nuns at my high school had very short hair, not all wore a veil. I believe members of the Church who were hairdressers cut it for them.
They can cut their hair so that the veil can fit on the head
We cut out hair to an inch or two. Any longer than that and it was not only uncomfortable under the veil, it made the veil sit wrong, and it took too long to dry after washing. Nuns don't have a spare 10 minutes in their week to waste on hair, hence they keep it very short.
Il.faut prier tous les jours

Why do they have to cut their hair?
vanity
seamarina1013 They cut the hair as a sign of turning away from the adornments of the world and the body. Are they allowed to grow it back? Or does it always have to stay short
seamarina1013 They can grow it back but I think most keep it short just because it’s more convenient and comfortable under the habit.
