iCyclone's Hurricane Olaf Chase: Intense footage from the inner core and eye of Category-2 Olaf at Ground Zero: San Jose del Cabo, Baja California Sur, Mexico.
This was a great video. I live in San Jose. We lost power at 6pm storm night for 3 days. You were right in saying this hit us faster and harder than anyone had imagined it would.
Vivo en San José del Cabo... Mi familia y yo agradecemos por la espectacular imagen que lograste captar. Nosotros nos refugiamos en otra casa, solo perdidas materiales.
Wow I´m from San Jose and I never get to see the streets when a hurricane hits, just busy taking care of home and family, thanks for documenting this and other storms, pretty sick and cool job man! But stay safe always
My husband and I were at the Riu Palace Baja California . Olaf came to visit on my 2nd day at the resort. The surf was an amazing but scary sight. We had to be back into our rooms by 7:30 pm and I have amazing videos of how strong the wind was. Luckily it was pretty much over by midnight. San Jose got most of the impact.
Amazing footage. You seem to do this skillfully. Flew into Cabo just 2 days later to spend a great week there. Thank you for posting your hurricane experiences.
Great video and another fantastic success nailing the eye - especially when it was a real last minute chase! I like the format of the video with more lead up to the climax of the storm, it gives us a better understanding of what you go through to get in the eye. The eye was so serene, yet the rumbling of the sea in the background was telling another story. I'm glad the lights stayed on, it would've been a bit spooky otherwise! Thanks for sharing with us, Josh :). P. S. Folks should watch it on a big screen if possible, it raises the intensity levels to another level!
Thanks so much for this thoughtful feedback, Lois. It's really helpful-- especially as I experiment with new ways of telling the story (for example, in this one including a lot more of the actual chase). I'm gonna take your advice and play it on a big screen as well!
You got some really good footage.! First time watching your videos.. Also my first Hurricane! We're living about 10 mins from Pamilla and it was pretty intense, as you can see in your video. The eye was a surreal experience... I've used that metaphor "being the eye of the storm" but actually having the physical experience of it was another thing! It was amazing,! I'll never forget it!, and if I start to - I can watch your video again.
Aww, thanks so much, Stefanie-- I am so glad my video helps you commemorate the experience. And I'm glad you survived the experience safely and that you got to witness the magic of a hurricane's eye.
Your chases are simply the best, my brother. I look forward to each and every one of these amazing events! Thanks for always providing High quality, enthralling content, dude!!!
Unbelievable amigo, I had never seen the gusts of air that hurricanes make, it is very risky to do that, all my respect and admiration for your work, thank you for sharing it.. 👏🏽👏🏽🤙🏽
Al norte de San José del Cabo (Zona de Las Veredas) tuvimos calma hasta después de las 9, alrededor de las 9:15 p.m. Fueron más o menos 4 horas de viento muy intenso.
Awesome video dude!! I’m glad you decided to chase it!! Please don’t stop chasing! I always look forward to your videos and information about that storm you are chasing!! I would definitely love to see what it is like in the center of a hurricane!! In a weird way I bet it’s peaceful and calm!! Thanks again!! I would like to chase with you sometime to experience that!!
I’ve always been curious, with all of these incredibly violent storms that you have experienced, which would you consider the most intense? Just from your uploads, I’d say Dorian takes the cake. I’d love to hear your answer.
Been so caught up in volcanism lately that I missed this one entirely. Cyclones are forever on my altar of coerced respect, but no sequence of cyclonic activity could end modernity. What do Fagradalsfjall, Cumbre Vieja, and Etna portend? What does it MEAN to MEAN something? Probably nothing! But air in our atmosphere has a speed limit unto itself unless propelled by something far worse than air can manage alone. AWESOME video, dude. He was no Odile, but he was worth the trip!
Hm I didn’t got to chase that one sense it was far from where I hurricane hunt in the Florida panhandle great video this one was awesome glad to you see you back hunting hurricanes it’s rare when you’re chasing and you’re the one who is getting chased also those winds seen to be going at 100mph as you can see the palm trees almost snapping very curved and pushed to the side who knows.
I am glad this wasn't fully a night time chase again. Again you outmaxed the full potential of a small hurricane in pictures. From scrambled eggs into sexy in less than 24 hours. These rapid intensifications must be challenging for a chaser to handle. This thing came out of nothing.
Bro It really was a horrible experience. It really was a horrible experience that for 7 years we did not have to live ... I really liked that you came to my homeland 👊🏻☺️☺️☺️
@@iCyclone cool will do! cant wait to see the next video! i love watching your videos because what you are doing is literally what i want to do when i am able to drive on my own!
Hi Josh, you are an example to follow for me but I have a question why are there videos of hurricanes like Franklin Earl Hagibis or Ingrid that you haven't uploaded yet?
Wow, that's a beautiful chase! It's a shame these amazing storms do a lot of damage to living areas. Also I wouldn't be myself if I didn't ask a stupid theoretical question: would a person be able to withstand direct peak category 2 winds (without windshields like houses) if not taking into account debris and other indirect inconveniences of course?
Thanks for your kind words. A person would probably be knocked down, blown off their feet, or injured by flying debris if directly exposed to a *true* Cat-2 wind, which means a sustained (1-min average) speed of about 100-110 mph. In most videos you see of people standing in strong winds, they aren't true hurricane winds, or they aren't above Cat-1 speeds.
@@iCyclone Thank you! I pretty much agree that 100-110 is a stretch but one person may have recorded a person standing in Category-2 winds. I think it was Justin Drake chasing hurricane Irma, the anemometer measured around 93-94mph sustained i think, but before they started measuring Justin tested the winds which seemed a little bit stronger at the time, but either way I doubt it was really above 97-98mph sustained direct winds which is just an entering C2 and he already could barely stand in that ^^.
i remember having to move my car in the middle of it and 30min later a tree having fallen down on the spot where i had my car prior. this one hit much harder than people will have you believe.
Is it me or the gusts in this storm are more...apparent (?) than other chases...maybe it's different audio equipment and lighter rain compared to other intense storms that make those few second gusts stand out a lot here.
with this extremely boring July 2022 in the USA, the best thing I can do is watch THIS right now! There's just no weather action right now anywhere except for local thunderstorm reports in a few locations.
Este amigo está en todos los ciclones, soy tu fan, te sigo desde que grabaste odile
I was there, I'm from San Jose, I loved This hurricane, although Hurricane Odile loved me more😍
Not to damaging but strong enough to be hectic

Thanks so much, Stacey! I am really glad you liked the video, and that you felt it captured the experience there.

Amazing video there, I'm impressed that the NHC pressure estimate and your pressure observations in the eye matched really good
I believe their estimate in that advisory was influenced by my reading, since I had tweeted it publicly.
The O name hurricanes like hitting the baja first Odile now Olaf.
Greetings From San Jose Del Cabo, loved the coverage of Olaf and how this meteor hit the peninsula
