I agree. I've been using various Crank Bros multi tools for a decade. I also keep them in a plastic baggie because they can rust a bit if you cycle in wet conditions regularly.
Good video! I'm a little surprised the maker doesn't include some sort of guide or instructions with the tool. Thank goodness folks like you are willing to take the time to detail the product and its uses.
Didn't see this point mentioned in the video or the comments: To use the chain tool properly, you need leverage. Just screwing down onto the chain will not pop out the pin on a link. To get leverage, you use the case as a breaker bar. I know this because I just did it on a ride today for a chain break mechanical. So don't toss the case because you're a weight weenie, loose or damage the case. It is an integral part of the M19 to make it an effective tool! Happy trails!
I love this multi tool. That being said, due to size, I run the ONE up tools on each of my bikes but keep this for longer rides or areas i may need the extra tools on this.
thanks. I use my multi-tool so rarely that I have come to keep it in an old sock, inside my pack. It is heavy and gets bashed around for months on end: the sock helps pad it, and adds little bulk and no weight.
I got the M20 with the tools and plugs for tubeless repair integrated into it. I think it’s fantastic and has everything I could need in one tool. Only downside is the loss of a case for the whole unit. But I found a work around by sticking it in a sock.
I’ve enjoyed my Topeka Hexus X. It’s handled every issue I’ve had on the trails. Luckily I usually end up using it on my friends bikes rather than mine. Seems like the chain tool is the most used feature. My buddies ignore chain maintenance it seems.
The tools are fantastic, but I notice a couple of situations, the first is that the screws on the ends loosen a little and it is very difficult to remove the multitool from its case, the second is that it makes a lot of noise since the case is made of metal . The recommendation is to use it without the case.
Note to those who live in humid environments (like the east side of Hawai'i Island): the chrome plating will corrode. Wish they'd stop using that junk. Otherwise a great tool. Still have my original, but it won't last much longer.
most multi-tools have a bad chain cutter, on which you can possibly use it for 2 or 3 times then it breaks its teeth in the bolts. may i ask some users of this crank brother if the chain cutter in this m19 was reliable

That is my issue with the tool here in uk it’s rusted slightly but solid tools on it though
I keep mine in a latex glove

Thanks Clint...I was on the fence between this and theTopeak PT30 but your vid clearly showed me this was the tool I need for basic trail repairs.
Been using one of these for years. Fantastic unit that is darn tough and durable.
I used to have that. I now use the Topeak Mini P20. Smaller, includes a chain breaker and it also has a tool to remove a quicklink.
Which do you like more ? I feel compact ones Allen key won’t extend, but the chain breaker has more leverage
I’m a very casual biker and was given one of these. Only used it once, but was great to have!

Was the case designed for that purpose or did you think of it?
👆This is solid advice. The I used this technique only today...

I like the m20 with the tire plugs
Is that the only difference between the two?

They need to redesign the chain tool. Compare a Lezyne, Topeka, or Parktool and they all come with a second "shelf" for decompressing the outer links.

Great content!😊

I bought an M17 recently and it came with a strap instead of a case. I’m wondering if they stopped using the metal cases.
Had to loctite the 4 bolts that hold it all together. kept vibrating apart in my kit.
Are the chain tool on this hard to use I.e should I get a dedicated one for on the go, in addition to multitool??
just got mine. thanks
Can't the chain tool also be used as a presta valve removal tool? I believe it can using the outside round opening.
Helpful review...thank you.
Good job!

I wish the case fit better. But I strap a tube to the case to keep it together
Good video
Why would one have a allen wrench that doesn't extend far enough to adjust a bolt? I'm just curious because I've never experienced that.. Thank you..
The bolt inside the rear derailleur is recessed. I had a very small multi tool before the Crankbrothers that was too short to reach the bolt.
@ClintGibbs You didn't have a allen wrench that was long enough to reach the recessed bolt before, that's what I'm not understanding.
@@westdeuce it was just that particular multitool.
I believe you will find a valve core tool in one end of the chain tool. At least Lezine multi tools have it.

I’ve got one it a legit tool very useful
I don’t pack it on rides
I go over the bike before every ride and that works out great for me
Mine didn’t come with a case, bummer!
I find it impossible to actually break a chain with the chain tool. It doesn’t create enough leverage. Bad design
It can be done but very hard, better to get a separate tool
You can always depend on Crack brothers.
