I had the privilege of working with Weird Al very recently, and I have to tell you, he is as genuine, nice and hilarious as he appears on this video. Amazing guy.
This doesn't ruin the magic at all--for me, it lends respect to all of what Al Yankovic really does. Doing true parodies is really a work of art, a type of creative genius, and to see Al and Donny crack up at their own whacked out antics on camera is a real treat!
The first time I saw the W&N video, I said, "That guy looks a lot like Donnie Osmond... could it be? No way." Weird Al is amazing, and I love Donnie for doing this video with him! This interview is too much fun!!
The reason the music is slowed down is becasue they use high fps cameras. It also allows the editer room to speed up and slow down the video to fit with the lip sync audio.
Weird Al has captured the American Dream and helped us all have a good laugh while at it. Way to go Al! And thanks for the healthy dose of good natured humor.
I remember watching "White & Nerdy" (AND this behind the scenes feature!) back when it first came out. I was only 11 years old back then. Take me back to those days...
I do the whole editting thing anyhow with differnt videos and such, so seeing this on a professional level makes sense. When you can get away with things you do. I am just blown away at how funny that is movivg slowly to make it look like you are moving in real time. Makes you respect what these people do more everyday. 3 days for an almost 3 minute video. We don't get enough respect for what we do. :)
He actually rapped as fast as it sounds. But it probably made the video easier, because I'm assuming he didn't record it all in one take. So for lip syncing purposes...
Lots of music videos do that. It's also a technique Al used when he directed a bunch of music videos for other artists (like the "Rockin' the Suburbs" video he did for Ben Folds).
I am a white nerd, and I loved the video. I admit that I am pasty due to lack of going outside, and you know what else? I am actually proud of being white and nerdy.
I had the pleasure of doing the Lighting for part of Weird Al's video, Living with a Hernia. It was a parody of James Brown's video, Living in America. We shot it at Bally's Las Vegas.
i have a White and Nerdy sweartshirt that is like that! i went to his concert on the september 19th and it was the best concert that i have ever been to! i love him!!!
A quote of one of the other viewers. AFareWellSetsFire: "Actually its because they can speed up the film so that the song is at the original speed, but now everything will seem just a bit faster except for his lips which will be perfectly synched with the song."
In addition to my other post I meant to add they can also do the reverse where a video looks faster (and more comical) but still lip-syncs when speeded up, which is what they did with this video.
Al would be one of the best storytellers for D&D or any game really. Every aspect, every genre would be represented and they would all flow like tributaries coalescing into a river of brilliant weird. I don't recall him being into tabletop roleplaying but he does an amazing job of it IRL.
lol.. the way they were laughing at what they just recorded near the end.. yeah that.. was kinda freaky :X but i love it, gotta love these remade songs
Thing is, he goes to every artist that he parodies and asks if he can. Only like 10 ppl have ever said no. Besides, it's not actually illegal to parody a song, he doesn't need the original songs rights but he gets them anyway.
Tremendously well done ! Al has Superbly over time continued to make us all laugh, But this one I believe is the best of all time ! Way to show what ROFL is all about ! THANK YOU !!
this video changed my perception of Donny Osmond 1,000%. Who knew he was so fun and self- deprecating (with very impressive moves!)??! Such a great sport!! And, of course...Al is an amazing and brilliant talent. But, we all knew that already.
He doesn't change "a few words", he writes mostly new lyrics. You try writing something like "The Saga Begins". And in any case, he does write original songs as well.
I had the privilege of working with Weird Al very recently, and I have to tell you, he is as genuine, nice and hilarious as he appears on this video. Amazing guy.

Donny Osmond was frickin priceless in this!
earthquake
My favorite part was Donny and Al belly laughing at themselves slow mo singing and dancing.
Donny Osmond is great. Watching them film this at a slower speed and seeing him dance is hilarious.
Weird AL for president
taltigolt #2020
wow, it's taltigolt 7 years ago!
2006 taltgolt, this is the future. We would totally love to have Weird Al as President.
@Vincent Does Stuff :(
Hello comment from 10 years ago
Donny was the absolute highlight on this video.
If you're watching this and you haven't seen the full video of Donny Osmond's dance, do yourself a favour and look it up
Schoobydoo : I watched it before this ‘behind the scenes’ video and you are correct, it is great!
I never realized until this moment that those first two gangstas are Key and Peele!
I also loved the Donny Osmond touch. That was perfect!
He was always a great dancer as well.

Kudos to Donny for being able to laugh at himself in this.Very cool.
The cameo's in this are just hilarious.
I'm glad you decided to direct your own videos, you really know what you're doing, and the results are wonderful ^^
The first time I saw the W&N video, I said, "That guy looks a lot like Donnie Osmond... could it be? No way." Weird Al is amazing, and I love Donnie for doing this video with him! This interview is too much fun!!
Donny and Al Together make me love them BOTH even MORE!!!
Chamillionaire said he was impressed with how Weird Al was able to channel the rap genre.
Weird Als wicked. I have loved like every song i've heard by him. I hope that he continues in his success. Also Donnie was f'n hilarious!!
you are alive?
The reason the music is slowed down is becasue they use high fps cameras. It also allows the editer room to speed up and slow down the video to fit with the lip sync audio.
I had no idea how much work went into making a music video. Thank you for this content.
Watching Key and Peele bob their heads to slowed-down Weird Al made my day.
Weird Al can rap alot better than the rappers today
He mimicked Krayzie Bone and actually held his ground. That's INCREDIBLY rare, even among the most famous rap artists.
6:00 Seeing Al this giddy scares me as well as makes me happy.
Donnie Osmond kept his age pretty well. He's a Mormon and doesn't smoke or drink, (or shouldn't) and it really makes a difference.
Weird Al also never drinks, smokes, does drugs or use profanities. He's looking great for his, too.
I think there's a lesson for all of us.
lol i like the part he says bye and the camera keeps on turning back to him
My respect for Donnie just went up 3 dB! He really is a great guy. What a funny video!
Just saying wassup from 2022, just after watching his biopic “Weird.” True living legend 🏆
this world would be a lot more boring without people like Weird Al. He rules!
That was neat to see the audio slowed down like that. I always wondered how they managed to keep it synced up...
Great song,. great artist, I really enjoyed seeing behind the scenes and how much fun Al had shooting
I saw him perform live at a concert last June, and he was so hilarious! Love his 2 MJ parodies!!
This is possibly one of the most awesome things I have ever seen.
Weird Al has captured the American Dream and helped us all have a good laugh while at it. Way to go Al! And thanks for the healthy dose of good natured humor.
That was really cool. Smart of Al to get Donny Osmond to do the dance. They are hilarious.
they time-stretch it out so it's slower, and when they play it back at a quicker speed they look sped up but are timed perfectly with the music.
he would be so much fun to work with. he's awesome.
Al has gotta be my favorite artist, he is so very awesome
Who watching May 2020?
Imagine, the neighbours who listen to this while they making this :)
Imperious Perfect : August 2020.
This is great! Thanks so much for the sneak preview.
I remember watching "White & Nerdy" (AND this behind the scenes feature!) back when it first came out. I was only 11 years old back then.
Take me back to those days...
I’m from 2019 and I feel lonely with all these old comments from 12 years ago 😔
Isaiah Armstrong you’re not alone brother
It doesn’t seem like it’s been that long, now it’s 2020 (the year that 💩keeps happening!).
Alot More Work Is Put Into It Than I First Though, Good To You Al
I do the whole editting thing anyhow with differnt videos and such, so seeing this on a professional level makes sense. When you can get away with things you do. I am just blown away at how funny that is movivg slowly to make it look like you are moving in real time.

To achieve that "That's What I Like" effect - fast, and dynamic.

This is awesome seeing behind the scenes of White n Nerdy!
back he never left
Interesting- never knew they slowed the audio down that much for filming
btw he would fit as austin powers in a new movie :)
hi youtuber
I am a white nerd, and I loved the video. I admit that I am pasty due to lack of going outside, and you know what else? I am actually proud of being white and nerdy.
i absolutely LOVE him. genius man.
Agreed! I actually had the Dare to be Stupid record on Vinyl when it came out, if that tell you how long Ive been a fan :D
I still have that album on cassette. :-P
weird al has been the best for years
i haven't listened to this song in so long!!!!!
I saw him in Green Bay....and he signed my White & Nerdy sweatshirt. He is the coolest person I've ever met, hands down.
I had the pleasure of doing the Lighting for part of Weird Al's video, Living with a Hernia. It was a parody of James Brown's video, Living in America. We shot it at Bally's Las Vegas.
The best "making of" video ive ever seen!
Wierd Al is absolutely brilliant. He is an amazing talent.
I went cruisin' up and down the Walmart parking lot with this tune blastin'. Good times good times.
Today is the 14th Anniversary for this song.
so they played the song slow & then sped it up
To achieve that "That's What I Like" - fast, and dynamic.
Ahhh that explains it. Brilliant
lol.. i love al of weird al's songs..great video
Such an awesome behind the scenes...good featured YT guys.
He may be White and Nerdy, but I love his music.
i have a White and Nerdy sweartshirt that is like that! i went to his concert on the september 19th and it was the best concert that i have ever been to! i love him!!!
ANYone who has the guts to laugh at themselves has my respect....
ive always loved Weird Al. not only is he funny, but an incredible musical talent also.

gotta love that seqway
Hilarious! Al is so talented and it's really cool to watch what goes on behind the scenes of making a video like this.
In addition to my other post I meant to add they can also do the reverse where a video looks faster (and more comical) but still lip-syncs when speeded up, which is what they did with this video.
You have to look up the green screen video with donny

This definitely is the best Music Video EVER created.
props to Donny Osmond for crackin' up Al so much!
wierd al is the most realist dude in the industy
Man it must have been so fun during the shooting of this. Happy Al does what he loves. Making all of us laugh.
this is such a great clip
I'm glad to see him back.
+Mr. Master Mann - He never left. He's been doing this for 40 years. xD
lol.. the way they were laughing at what they just recorded near the end.. yeah that.. was kinda freaky :X
but i love it, gotta love these remade songs
weird al is so... weird, this is so cool!
I love Weird AL!

Totally awesome. Weird Al is the best.

Oooh, it's Seth Green showing off the action figures!! I totally didn't know that.
He doesn't change "a few words", he writes mostly new lyrics. You try writing something like "The Saga Begins". And in any case, he does write original songs as well.
lol "kickin' it old school!" that gets me every time!!!! lol love it!! i ♥ al!!!!
I seriously know every word to this song
I ♥ weird al!!
It’s a shame that only so little of the Donny Osmond footage endet up in the final video
Wicked cool video, Weird Al rocks.
Occasionally there are problems or misunderstandings when getting permission, but by the time they find out, he's already made it. It's on his website
damn it was so long ago
Weird al is a genius. I love hios stuff sooo much, it is really funny. i liked the behijnd the scenes.
