      What was your reason for looking at this video? I’ve got a f10 520d touring I’m new to her had the E61 before so I’m getting my bearings with the new car. Noticed a slight squeak from steering from cold, so I’m working through the checklist. Just interested to get your thoughts.

    Is it possible to get a steering malfunction if fluid level is barely on the dip stick?

    Hello!
    I have 2 indicators on the stick :
    - 20°C (68°F)
    - 80°C (176°F)
    How can I make sure to put the right amount of oil ? Should I fill up beteween the two ?
    Thanks!

      @Ta Ha Hello
      You have to fill up to 20°C when the engin is cold

  • @stormrider01

    Wow your car looks like new, no need to change anything jet. Power steering fluid normally lasts about 10 jears or 100.000 km.

    Is the motor on while draining the fluid or must it be off?

    Fill it up 20 c or 80 c on a car that is cold or sitting over night

    Total Capacity is around 3000 ml.. more than 1000 ml is only in tank and what about pipes and steering rack and dynamic bars ?

    doesn't f10 have the electronic steering?

      Only the RWD Models from the F10/F11 5 Series have an electronic steering.

      electric steering was an option (also allows for a real lane assist, not just the vibration motors) but hydraulic is standard on F10/F11

    I wonder why some F10 has electrical steering and others have hydraulic

    • @wojtekplonka9668
      @wojtekplonka9668 2 роки тому +2

      Because of packaging inside the engine chamber. For example 3.0d is much larger than 2.0d and there is not enough space for EPS.

      @@wojtekplonka9668 I have a 530d F11 rear wheel drive (not xdrive) and it has hydraulics, it has adaptive drive, I don't know if it can influence it.

    Why is the acceptable level such a big secret!? No mention here and damned if BMW sees fit to list in the manual. That had to be on purpose. All the dip stick says is 80 and 20C. That's about as worthless as tits on a bull.

    • @tommasopasserindentreves9345
      @tommasopasserindentreves9345 Рік тому +1

      Well, the fluid expands with temperature. Therefore, the bar labeled 20°C is where the level should be at when the fluid is cold and the one labeled 80°C is where it should be when it's hot. It's not THAT complicated, is it? :-)

    • @matthewbittenbender9191
      @matthewbittenbender9191 Рік тому +1

      @@tommasopasserindentreves9345 that is what I thought it meant, but I always will verify my assumptions especially since I have an issue with the rack and it above the the 80 degree line all the time. I'd be damned if any of the manuals mention this tho. It's not even readily found on the web.

  • @karatist79

    Thats exactly how not to do it. Why mix old and new fluid and create a mess? You don't put new tea into old tea? You wash the cup and drain old tea in the sink.... That must be an American way of doing things.
