Great video! Keep finding myself watching this even after the two years after it was published here. He's a truly brilliant individual - an unsung hero. More of this please /Drive! Perhaps a check in with Baretzky sometime this year to see how everything has turned out so far & his thoughts on the current state of the WEC? :)
Same here, I've probably seen it 4 times. I think it's his sincerity about the tech as well as the politics. For me it corroborates some of the truths I came across in the energy industry over the last 3-4 years. The rules are the only obstacles & limitations. Anyway I wish I knew a fraction of what he knows. His dedication really comes through. Atta - boy Baretzky
THIS was/is THE BEST thing I've watched EVER! Ulrich Baretzky made me proud of having engineering degree (and soon MSc in Automotive Vehicle Service) and I believe that people with passion & knowledge could make difference for automotive industry. It was so inspiring! Thanks U.B. and DRIVE!
This is possibly one of my favourite things that I've seen yet on Drive. It's great to have the curtain drawn back and actually get some insight about the people involved and a glimpse into how the whole machine works.
Listening to Baretzky I forgot for 24 minutes that the world existed. Great great questions and just superb, passionate answers! Drive at it again! Awesome job!!
Great interview - very informative and entertaining at the same time. A pity that it doesn't get that many views. The information pertains to all of us and not just racing enthusiasts.
Having worked in the racing industry I know of what the good Doctor is talking about. This was fascinating, informative and just a joy to watch. It's so refreshing to hear someone of authority and knowledge speak openly and honestly. Thank you for putting this up.
This man is seriously inspiring. You can see how passionate he is. And hes one clever man. There should me more (or at least one) like him in the ACO and FIA. Best inverview ive seen in a longe time.
Thanks again Drive for posting another kick ass video. Baretzky engineering work is phenomenal and he speaks the truth. Now I really wish more car companies can have this type of dedication. Audi is setting a good example
Wow. Just wow. I have loved these interviews so much from the members of Audi motorsports, they are so completely genuine, so honest and from the heart, its inspiring. I sat here and listenend to 24:35 of Baretzky and still wanted more... Keep it up Baretzky!! Next meeting, remind the drivers, they aren't the only ones with Fans!!
I really enjoy this interview. What a guy. It seems like it went on longer, but it gets cut at the end? I'd like to see a monthly video with Dr. Baretzky discussing all things motorsports/engines/etc
Im not a fan of audi cars and i don't follow le mans and i even wasn't about to watch that episode. But after reading first two comments my opinion changed because im interested in any technical side of cars and i can say this interview is the best i ever listened to... Noone never will show that on tv. Only the word uncut says alot, this man said everything he was thinking. RESPECT!
Wow, that is without a doubt one of the most interesting and enlightening interviews i have ever seen on the topic of sportscar racing, technology and rules. If you ever get a chance to interview him again please ask for his opinion on energy consumption metrics vs. specified engine & restrictor sizes and what he would like to see in the 2014 rule book.
First i thought it's not worth spending 25minutes watching an interview but now that i've done it i have to say it was well spend time. The interview is fascinating. Everything what Herr Baretzky says is interesting and exciting.
Since its debut in LMP1 in 1999, an Audi LMP1 car has never retired from a race with an engine failure, even when they were running in the hands of private teams. That's an astonishing feat! And this the guy behind the engine development during all those years.
Absolute inspiring interview. Clear words from a man who knows what he is talking about. Concerning Schwarzenegger: Arni ist Austrian, Baretzky is from the Bavarian Part of Germany - those are to totally different dialects.
Leo, this was absolutely amazing. U. Baretzky is the most interesting man in the car world and I commend you guys for asking the best questions I could imagine. I seem to say this every week but here goes any way... How do you plan on topping this video? I say not possible but I look forward to being proved wrong... I was blocked earlier from comments on MotorTrend's half ass Audi Sebring video they posted yesterday for correcting their mistake that the car that won was the same as Le Mans.
Hey I would just like to say that this interview was amazing and Mr.Baretzky is very right about the electric power and how it still takes energy to make that electricity and I would some day like too see Audi running the algae biofuel in there race cars.
This man is my hero, soooooo brilliant!! Hopefully he has some influence over the politics that he agrees are holding the advancement of automotive technology back.
"I hope I will live long enough...and I will do my part, believe me" - I hope not only that you will live long enough, but that there are many more other people just like Ulrich Baretzky!
"and people don't like being lied to...." prophetic words, that a lot more politicians should've and should listen too. Look at a lot of our problems, not just in the car industry, and you see the truth of his statement.
Incredible interview!, this man is so interesting. Too many laws marked by stupid politics spoils the motorsport, and that is so sad. Thank you Drive, great video.
he´s also featured in the AWESOME documentary "Truth in 24", the Audi Documentary about the 2008 Le Mans 24h. Narrated by Jason Statham. If you haven´t seen it, it´s for free on iTunes in the US!!! Magnificent stuff you HAVE TO see if you like racing and endurance racing!
Brilliant interview. I really like that he wants to go back to gasoline, I think that is not only a great idea for Audi, but for everyone. Maybe even run 2 gas and 2 diesel Audis. Very interesting.
I really like this... words cannot explain my emotion... It is very very rare (first for me I think) that you hear the reality of racing and the struggle with dumbass politics... SHAKEDOWN I really loved this... so Thank you!! ... Please do more of this (but for the right reasons please - Dont do one just for hell of it - I know you know best)
best part is the end! Love this guy and Audi tech
Great video! Keep finding myself watching this even after the two years after it was published here. He's a truly brilliant individual - an unsung hero.

Baretzky is a great guy, enthusiastic and knowledgeable about all he talkes about. The end ist so great as well.
What an inspiring and interesting guy. Great job drive.
When the world government is formed a clone of this man needs to be president
First i thought it's not worth spending 25minutes watching an interview but now that i've done it i have to say it was well spend time. The interview is fascinating. Everything what Herr Baretzky says is interesting and exciting.
Very insightful and inspirational interview. Makes me want to buy an Audi for my next car.
You really can feel hes passion and emotions true the speaker.Thank you Ulrick and Drive Super ++++++++++++++++
awesome interview
tbh I expected another "corporate official interview", but this is pure gold instead.
Since its debut in LMP1 in 1999, an Audi LMP1 car has never retired from a race with an engine failure, even when they were running in the hands of private teams. That's an astonishing feat! And this the guy behind the engine development during all those years.
Baretsky was my favourite personality in "Truth In 24". Honest, passionate, and affable. I love the man even more, now.
This is amazing. I want to be like Ulrich Baretzky when I grow up
Still amazing in 2018
great interview
really interesting to listen to especially for a fan who has seen the audi development from the r8 to the r18
I'm going to have to watch this when I get home 25 minute interview means popcorn is needed
I prayed for this bit to come. F*&^in' great!
exactly what i wanted to see
Baretzky is such a knowledgeable person. He really caught my attention when I watched Audi Sport's documentary, 'Truth in 24.'
Absolute inspiring interview. Clear words from a man who knows what he is talking about.
Concerning Schwarzenegger: Arni ist Austrian, Baretzky is from the Bavarian Part of Germany - those are to totally different dialects.
Great interview, Ulrich sure knows what is going on.
all the respect in the world to this man

"I hope I will live long enough...and I will do my part, believe me" - I hope not only that you will live long enough, but that there are many more other people just like Ulrich Baretzky!
Love his rant about politicians. Couldn't have said it better myself.
"and people don't like being lied to...." prophetic words, that a lot more politicians should've and should listen too.
Look at a lot of our problems, not just in the car industry, and you see the truth of his statement.
Wow... pretty amazing concepts here. If this isn't a testament to racing tech contributing to consumer vehicles, I don't know what is.
Incredible interview!, this man is so interesting. Too many laws marked by stupid politics spoils the motorsport, and that is so sad.
Thank you Drive, great video.
YES!!!!
This guy go's deeply in to my fave's combustion engine engineers
15:30-18:00 very insightful thoughts on future energy usage
This is the man I want to emulate once I graduate with my engineering degree.
Oh and by the way, please have him back again for more.
He is the man....period
This man helped Audi win 11, ELEVEN, victories at Le Mans. What an absolute legend.
The way JF wanted to edit he did not need the interviewer questions recorded.
he´s also featured in the AWESOME documentary "Truth in 24", the Audi Documentary about the 2008 Le Mans 24h. Narrated by Jason Statham. If you haven´t seen it, it´s for free on iTunes in the US!!! Magnificent stuff you HAVE TO see if you like racing and endurance racing!

so much more than an interview about racing... it's people like this that should lead the progress, not power-thirsty politicians
love uleich getting out of his seat for diesel and gasoline efficiency rules
