Sad news you guys...I found the source of the mealybugs and it was my poor string of bananas. I didn’t even notice them (sneaky devils) on the leaves but I did notice she had been suffering. Turns out...she was ENGULFED in mealybugs. Sadly, for the safety of my other plants, I simply ushered her out the door. RIP String of Bananas.
My mother-in-law had the healthiest houseplants I've ever seen. Her care ritual was simple; once a week she'd fill her kitchen sink with water, immerse each plant pot in it, wipe the leaves with a cloth as she waited for all the air to bubble out of the soil. Then she'd set them on the drain board and popped them back in their decorative pot once the water stopped coming out of the plastic pot. She always made sure the soil was suited to the plant like you do (more or less water retentive, etc) but the care was the same, even with her succulents and cacti! Dunk, drain, pop back in the pots... I do the same now and although I don't have a green thumb, most of my plants are thriving!
I have over 40 plants and I have never thought of looking for a light meter app. I have horrible eyesight and can't judge light quality for the life of me so today YOU HAVE CHANGED MY LIFE.
This is perfect timing! I used to do outdoor gardening, but moved into my forever home last summer and there are tons of deer here and they eat everything. As of this year, I've started collecting indoor plants and I love how they bring nature indoors and add so much serenity and life to a space. I'm up to maybe 16 plants now and hoping for maybe one or two more. And as I'm watching your video, I fell in love with my false aralia at first sight. Love this video!
Kaye, the last time I saw your plants on the channel, you had about 8- wowza! You have really expanded your collection- they look so healthy and such a wonderful variety! I’m trying to hold steady at 6 plants but that watermelon plant is calling my name..🍉🍉🍉 Thank you for all the plant feels!🌱🌱🌱
I'm OBSESSED! LOL The watermelon peperomia is so cute! It's a little finicky about being moved, so I'd buy it and leave it in its nursery pot and put it in a nice medium light area.
I have a few plants that my husband cares for, but I think I am going to look up care instructions for them now! I also have a garden at school that I have plans on creating a low- water space because we have 80-100 degree weather most of the year and less than 12 inches of water per year. You are so inspiring, Kay!
Plants are always grateful for the attention you give. You remind me of my mother, who was also busy with her plants every day as relaxation.L OL, the last bit
Really fun video and love your expressions in relationship to each plant♡ the meal bug moment😄 really sweet video, thank you always for taking time out to share♡
I have a crazy relationship with plants first I am hot cold about everything and plants are no exception. I have 3 miracle grow pod gardens (about the size of drip coffee makers) that I keep trying to use for herbs and tomatoes. But my tomatoes outgrow the thing and fall over before they can produce fruit. I took a distinct interest plants after each of my parents passed away...mainly to keep the plants alive that were sent to us. I have never thought I couple really manage a big outdoor garden but that was completely my mothers happy place. Every year right after the christmas catalogs were expired the seed catalogs would arrive. She would draw out her garden on graph paper with the precision of an architect. Then on her birthday May 6 she would put her garden in. We had enough food to make us sick of every damn vegetable known to man. All of our neighbors had gardens too. She would take sacks full with her to church and give away to everyone, to our teachers, anyone that wanted some. She would can a lot too. One of my fondest memories of her is when she would get hungry she would walk out the backdoor with the salt shaker and pluck a perfect tomato, wipe it off on her shirt and eat it like an apple.
Love your house plants! I’m in Florida and do all of my gardening outside (low light in the house, keep the blinds closed against the heat ten months of the year). I do have a large covered deck outside where I grow lots of potted plants, mostly orchids, ferns, anthuriums and smaller gingers. And I grow lots of perennials and shrubs in the ground too. You should try a phalenopsis orchid, they’re so lovely and much easier than people think.
Loved this video! I have three little house plants I've managed to keep alive since February and I feel very accomplished 😊 Your collection is beautiful!
Your depiction of fittonia is perfect!! 🤣 I had to show my roommate. It’s one of my newer plants and the first time I saw little ms. Drama looking thirsty and wilted I almost cried!! I probably did lol.
Hi Kay, I love your houseplant videos! Thank you for sharing the light meter application. I have an Android phone. I have a couple similar applications installed on my phone, which are a lot of fun. For these applications to work, you have to have a light sensor built right into your phone. The flagship phones should have it. Another helpful application is a compass. Everyone knows what window is east, west, north, and south. But a compass can be more specific. For example, SW, NE, etc.. For a compass to work, you need a built-in compass on your phone.
I have a huge schefflera/false aralia as tall as me, it's beautiful, had mealybugs from the store but insecticidal soap and hand removal took care of it no problem. I love that plant
This was very good and informative. I have low low light. thank you for the tips. What a nice video from start to finish . .and the bean was cute as ever

The Organized Soprano the magic of variegated plants! They are my favs for a reason. ❤️
