TO ALL THAT ARE CONFUSED: (Its a 3D Modeller Thing)
Sub-D is Subdivision-surface. Something that smooths your geometry by adding edges in between your original geometry in a way that creates a smooth surface. The joke behind this video is that whenever your sub-D modelling and need to keep tight smooth corners (Very common with hard surface modelling like in this video with the bicycle) you need a method to do so. Whether, edge crease, proximity loops (Holding Loops) etc. There are many different ways with some methods having more than one name. But anyway, he was using holding loops here, and when you get the loops right in every place, flowing and beautiful with no artifacts, its a good feeling. Like really satisfying.

@real pinocchio Here I go. In 3d modeling there are fundamental ways to modeling objects, especially whether it’s organic or not like metal, plastic, and wood which have hard rounded edges. Rather than rounding it manually, Sub Division will automatically multiply the amount of polygons of the object but smoothed all edges. Holding edges will prevent that, you usually need to manually add them. So far a model that’s complex like this bike you’ll run into issues to make sure all the edges are in place otherwise you’d see polygons all over the place. It’s a headache when starting out.

This is great! Sub-Ds are great for creating low level geometry that appears high level. However like this video suggests this does not come without its fair share of issues. Essentially it rounds off and smooths everything. But if you don't want a specific edge to be round but maybe half round or not round at all and remain a sharp corner while everything else around it smooths, and now we hit the struggle that is illustrated in this video. On that moment when you turn on the smoothing is everything smoothing out the way you (the artist) wants it to smooth? Do you suddenly see edges stacked on top of other edges? It can be a very frustrating endeavor working out all the edge weights.

@@dannymo4390 of course if you chamfer and subdiv successfully in your modeling software, your model is ready for the next step. I'm not argue with that. What I'm saying is, chamfer can sometimes creat unexpected n-gons (the edge you chamfer is not an edge loop), which might lead to unsuccessfully subdiv. If I'm making game asset, I would definitely consider my next steps, not just modeling, but also sculpting the details and baking etc,. The end goal would be finished model in game engine, whatever the pipeline might be. But you do you, everyone's different.

Every time you get a notification, I quickly start sending laugh emojis because I know any video can be a sign Laugh at me, in short I want to say: your humor is love. Look, I manipulated UA-cam because of you, every time you go online, I get a message quickly, and I immediately come to the chat page to see your content. One day, when you go offline, your world will be sad. I have been posting your jokes in saved messages for a few days now, and I read and enjoy a few rounds, and I try to go skiing to be interesting and funny like you, but I swear to the pious, it will not work. Dadash, in general, I would like to say that if it were not for you, I would definitely have deleted UA-cam, because it would not be fun without you. Remember you sent me a funny video a few days ago, I was eating soup, Yahoo spat out with laughter. But please stop and don't send this to them anymore. (but that was an amazing model)
