    MAC Masterclass Brushes
    Descriptions from MAC:
Oval 6 Brush (the large oval) $42.00 USD
Ideal for blush, foundation or powder, the rounded, medium-sized brush applies, blends and contours all over the face or cheeks for even, flawless coverage.
Oval 3 Brush (the small oval) $32.00 USD
The ultimate multipurpose tool, with an elongated oval shape and slightly pointed tip. Smoothly shades and blends powder or cream eye shadows, powder, and liquid or cream concealer in the hard-to-reach contours of the face.
Linear 1 Brush (the smallest brush) $25.00 USD
With a short, narrow shape, the brush delivers a firm, precise stroke to line lashes and lips. Also defines and fills brows.
There is no PRO member discount for these brushes (PRO members will pay the full retail price). Each brush comes with the exact same cleaning instructions: "Using a soft cloth dampened with [any brush cleanser or rubbing alcohol], gently wipe brush head back and forth over the damp cloth to remove residual make-up. Allow brush to dry facing up."
Here's the info from MAC HQ on these brushes:
"M∙A∙C introduces a unique, breakthrough range of brushes that deliver a high level of performance and revolutionize personal makeup application. Ergonomically designed for even and effortless application, lush, silky, synthetic fibres are engineered to expertly pick up and apply product seamlessly. The brush handles feature a special grip design and a tilted brush tip for ultimate precision. M∙A∙C store exclusive."
"Introducing an ultra-modern range of unique brushes that delivers a high level of performance and revolutionizes personal makeup application. Ergonomically designed for even and effortless application, lush, silky, synthetic fibres are engineered to expertly pick up and apply product seamlessly. Available in three sizes, Linear 1, Oval 3 and Oval 6 feature a special grip brush handle designed for absolute control, and a tilted tip that keeps fingers and hands out of the way for ultimate precision."
Part of the Q&A with Nick Gavrelis Vice President, Global Product Development at MAC included the following (which is the part I found to be the most interesting):
    Q. What are the catalysts that inspired the Masterclass Brush Collection development? What makes the design so revolutionary? Can you expand on the technology and materials used to create the handle and brush fibers?
    A. Several years ago, we in Artist Training and Development began to think about how to re-design a makeup brush to make self-application more effortless and consistent for both the right and left handed individual. Research took us back to the origin of brush design, when the brush handle was made of twig or bone and the brush head was comprised of feather, human or animal hair. These brushes were used (with primitive paint) to record events and stories. Eventually, the brush was directed toward the face to give early man and woman another outlet for creative expression. The Masterclass Brushes were created with these early brushes in mind
In this collection, the brush head and handle are meant to run parallel to the face, instead of having to point the brush towards the face. The durable yet flexible metalized plastic composite handles have rubberized grips for comfort, and therefore, greater ease. All three Masterclass Brushes utilize a new type of synthetic bristle, Cosmefibre, which is a proprietary combination of materials, dyes, coatings and configurations. This yields an application like one would expect from only the finest natural luxury bristles.

Preach it, Dustin! I am also someone who is constantly frustrated with makeup application because I am blind as a bat and also need to really get up in my mirror's business to see anything I am doing. When I can I try to buy short handled or travel-sized brushes, but for the most part I just don't even bother with fine-details (especially eye makeup) because its always a nightmare. I'd love to see more brushes with this style of handle on the market.

As a Make-up Artist who uses the standard brushes and as a performer who applies make up everyday of my life for work. I totally agree in what u said. Not that I am not up for new things. I am always in every sense. I think these brushes needs a revised or a better design, shape and feel. Not just a funky design but something I'll spend my money on and will be a necessity on my kit. Thanks for the review. You are awesome!

I'm quite pleased I'm not the only person so short-sighted that my nose hits the mirror... When I saw these I just thought "wtf" and I hadn't even THOUGHT how it will stop the handle hitting the mirror issue! GENIUS! I just wish they got the shape right, but kept that handle and applied it to all their standard eye brushes, because I can't wear glasses for that part, but I CAN for cheeks and contouring (and do for most of it unless I'm going right up behind the arms of my specs. I can't wear contacts as they disagree with me, so all eye make-up application involves nose meeting mirror every time...
Slightly OT, the new background music you have.. I find it a little off-putting. I'm not sure exactly why, and I appreciate that you mix things up and change them regularly, but something about this background music distracts me and confuses me a little on every video, but I could be really odd. (well I know I'm odd, but yes). Somehow it gives me a headache. I think it's possibly because it's just loud enough to hear but it makes me concentrate and strain to hear if that makes sense? (still 100 times preferably to extremely loud music and quiet voice like some videos!!) Just a bit of feedback on it for you... probably unwanted!

You know what I don't understand? Everything you've said is what I thought when I first saw them. But Wouldn't they have had makeup artists testing the prototypes? I can't imagine that anyone else wouldn't have have the same issues. Or did they skip the testing phase (which would have been really dumb)? I just don't understand. I'd they were bringing out these new brushes they should have been tested up the wazoo!!

***** Mandy Cummins I know Dustin stopped review MAC's limited edition collections like last summer or something because the products were so failtastic. So I really don't think they are testing things thoroughly before launching them.

It's such a great point that the shape of the brushes is good for glasses wearers. I wear contacts, but I've always wondered how those who wear glasses apply their makeup because I'd have the same issue as you where the brush handles would hit the mirror, my eyesight is also quite bad. I'd seen photos of these brushes, but that point hadn't occurred to me.

  • @ariadne1elise
    @ariadne1elise 10 років тому

Oh my gosh! That's so true! Knocking up against the mirror!
When I do my make up, my contacts always go in last. So this is why I've always favored inexpensive brushes, because they tend to have much shorter handles.

Oh my god you were literally talking to me about the blind thing lmao. I cannot do my makeup at all without contacts because if I have no contacts or glasses my nose no word of a lie will touch the mirror before my face isn't a mess of blurs anymore and at that point I can't see my whole face anyway because I'm too close lol. The brush hitting the mirror thing is soooooo true and it's horrible. Thank god for contacts.

Old video so I don't know that you'll see this but... I hadn't really thought seriously about these brushes till you pointed out how they could work for people with glasses. My eyes are so bad contacts won't work. I just can't do my eyes with a lot of detail because I can't see well enough. So maybe these would help.

  • @victoriasmith1657

MAC should find themselves privileged, and at such an advantage to have you on a consulting panel. I am, also, blind as a bat. The magnifying mirror I use is great, however, I still must sit very close to it, or I appear upside down, of course. My brushes are forever striking the mirror and have caused many near misses of a poke in my eyes. So, this concept is very intriguing. Yet, it appears some kinks need to be worked out. You could really help them out with this. We Virgo are sticklers for detail. LOL! Thanks for the info.

Being a painter the idea of those handles confuse me. The bristle shape/length I do really like, but oh boy, the tilt of them would be so awkward to work with. I could never imagine doing my brows with something like that. But the large one would be very nice for personal foundation/concealing.
