Hello Malcolm. I just wanted to say thank you for all of your videos. I've been in a very dark place for years and it came to a head recently. Discovering the arts and poetry through your enthusiasm has been a real light in the darkness.
I am watching this from near Chicago. In 2021 my father died. We played LOTR and read to him from the Hobbit as he did to us as children. He was here and there and everywhere as kids, because of his mental health and addiction issues. But when he was with us, he carried a pipe, tobacco, and Tolkien. He reminds me of you Malcolm. This story comes on the heels of his homegoing Nov 5, 2021. It has been a few years but I am always reminded of him all year and esp leading up to the time we spent together those days as we lay in wait with him, reading, singing, listening. Sacred space that we don't often talk about but he got to hear his kids share in his greatest joy (Tolkien) and talk about the road ahead. Thank you.
A brilliant reading! My grandfather was a pipe smoker and great reader and you remind me of him. I've recently taken up the hobby of pipe smoking and think often of him while I'm smoking my pipe. Thank you so much for your videos!
“My body is broken. I go to my fathers. And even in their mighty company I shall not now be ashamed.” That is incredibly beautiful. May we all live in a way that makes our forefathers proud (and most importantly our Heavenly Father)!
I have so many different copies of LOTR but my most used one is the copy that has been on my phone since 2016. I started reading it from my phone kindle app when my mom was going through daily cancer treatments. Those bits of waiting time..I could read LOTR and be taken away from my circumstances. Since then, it’s become a daily habit to read from LOTR, mostly before bed. It brings stability and comfort and hope. So I’ve read it through so many times, I can no longer count. Thank you for this beautiful excerpt. What a wonderful reading and a perfect pause to remember those who are no longer with us.
I also have lost count of how many times I have read through the LOTR trilogy....stopped counting after the 20th time through! It is always good to hear from others who keep returning to it as well. There is something so deeply beautiful, true, and hopeful about Tolkien's writing!
That reading sent wave of emotions through me..I am reminded of all those I have lost now,yet not with sadness, with tears of love. Thankyou dear sir for you reading 📖🙏🏻

I just finished my yearly reading of the Hobbit and all the LOTR books. They never get old, so well written and a treat to hear it read in bits by Malcolm. Thank you for taking the time to share these great passages with all of us. Hearing you read and also reading your poem “Smoke Rings From my Pipe” as I have a pipe brings me solace after a hard day. Cheers
These videos have encouraged me to read the Lord of the Rings. I bought a paperback version that contains all 3 books. I got it when the Fellowship of the Ring was released in theaters back in 2001. It has set unread on my bookshelf for all these years but no longer.
Hello Malcom, i just recently discovered your channel and i must say sir, your readings, songs, and discussions of poetry are some of the most amazing content I have ever found on youtube. You sir are the archetypal wise old christian proffesor. God bless you sir
I wish they had included this in the movie, it would have sent a much stronger message of remembering the fallen during our times of peace. We should never forget the price.
I sat and smoked my own churchwarden while enjoying some of the sweet “Longbottom leaf” listening to you read and what a pleasure it is. Almost feel as if I’m sitting with you. I love how you don’t just read but bring it to life and add your own bits of insight. I am also reading Return of the King. Such wonderful writing!! Cheers my good sir!
I am so pleased to have found your videos! You have inspired me to spend more time in my study and dig out my pipe collection. If you take requests, I have seen your love for the Peterson Lestrade, and I was wondering if you could read us something from Sir Arthur Conan Doyle one day (of course while enjoying one of your Sherlock pipes)? Thank you, truly, for your content, it is beautiful!
How I wish I could smoke a bowl of good tobacco! Sadly though my heart is failing and such a pleasure is now denied. However there are still many books to read and re- read . I shall enjoy LOTR this winter , with perhaps a little good ale. Peace everyone.
Thank you Malcolm for another wonderful reading. I love your churchwarden pipe and your clutter of books and tobacco tins, reminds me of my office/study! What is your favorite blend/mixture? I have a few in rotation myself. Apparently professor Tolkien was a Capstan Blue devotee and C.S. Lewis' was Bell's Three Nuns. Thanks for your generosity reading these passages!
Conduit. Malcolm you connect us to literature in ways that no school English teacher ever could. I don't think I knew what literature was until you lit up some pages for us. Pipe.
So glad to meet with you back in your own hobbit hole once again. I look forward to savoring a pipe and some pages this evening myself. What blend are you enjoying these days? Have a blessed evening.

The bookstore in my area is taking donations to gift to kids. Anywhere from toys, to games, to books themselves. Naturally, when I saw an entire compendium of The Chronicles of Narnia, I just had to donate it. May the child who receives that gift, find wonder inside. And may it also help him find his way into the other beautifully crafted worlds, that our dear friends The Inklings have built.
Dear Malcom: let me buy you a pint. Thank you so much for reading to us. The Witch-King (if I recall well) was afraid of a prophecy that he would be hewn by an elf-warrior… Something to do with Macbeth!

That one observation in this video brought joy to my heart.
Tolkien just couldn't stop himself sometimes!
@PhilokaliaPhotography I enjoyed your comments on this. Imagine when the Inklings came together, what a time they must have shared.
I was just recalling this part of LOTR to someone at work the other day. Nice to hear it from you here.

So we'll read! Thanks Malcolm. Tolkein is magnificent, and you read it so well. Thank you. (From a fellow pipe smoker).
Just finished reading The Lord of the Rings again, this part is one of favorites in Return of the King. Thanks for the excellent reading!
Always a priviledge to be invited to listen to a good story while you enjoy a pipe. One of the best uses of the internet, though simple.
Thanks again for your videos and work always blesses me and helps me relax
Brings tears to my eyes, every time.
4:54 “but the ring wraith made no answer, and was silent, as if in sudden doubt.” There’s something I just love about that small detail.

Wonderful to hear that tale again. I must choose a Tolkien pipe for my next purchase.
And there stood Meriadoc the Hobbit. Love that part! Remember me …
Perfect
So glad to meet with you back in your own hobbit hole once again. I look forward to savoring a pipe and some pages this evening myself. What blend are you enjoying these days? Have a blessed evening.
I see you’re on the Peterson de-lux blend as am I. Cheers friend
Well read 🙏
Nice to see the tins of navy rolls, a fantastic smoke
This man is an absolute treasure! Living the dream!
This is among my favorite moments, in all the moments of literature I’ve ever read.
I just want you to read the whole book and comment on it at intervals. From page 1. You're brilliant.
I love this UA-cam channel!Cheers from Alaska!😄
Wonderful video
"For living or dark undead, I will smite you if you touch him" is one of the most badass lines in LOTR.
When this man walks Eagles bow and Valar look on with pride ❤
That Tower of Bable thing did't work out too good. What did Frodo do about that?
Thank you
