That “modified mud flange” detail is sweet. You guys should go into detail about that. I’m trying to incorporate that into some of my projects over here in Michigan.

Looks awesome. Thanks for sharing how you guys made this. I have never thought about doing lap joints like that. With the outside pieces for support. Love it! Gotta use that idea one day.

Can you explain a little about the color finishing process? Is it wrapped in veneer and stained?
Nice work by the way. I appreciate your content and it gives me inspiration for my next project

Theres an outer mdf layer and solid wood edge banding. Those are sanded and then painted with a 2k polyurethane spray finish.

Looks nice, although I think a tad chunky. Would prefer the shelves and vertical pieces ~2/3 the size.

Can you throw some pictures of the joints/individual pieces up on your IG? These look wonderful.

Very nice, was there a decision process to not use vertical pieces on the two side edges? I think it would have made it stand out more, plus it would have matched with the very top piece.

The idea was for it to appear as they were floating in that space. If we put verticals on the ends it would have completely changed the design and the entire way this was built.

Looks killer amazing design, i wonder anything you will do different, to easy the install, and how did you finish the edge, edge banding ? Thanks guys great work always learn with this videos, dying to see that house finish i can tell the owner will be please

Thanks, this house is turning out amazing. We used 1/4" solid wood edge banding. This went fairly smooth so Im not sure there is a ton we would change if we had to do it again. Things like easing the edge and what not during fabrication would be one thing.

Sweet! Always a challenge to avoid seams on a long run like this. Not sure if you mentioned already, but how thick was the edge banding/face?

Really creative, nice work. I was wondering why you didn’t use a Dado blade to cut your dados?

Me joking around with my woodworking buddies: “Wouldn’t it be crazy if these built-ins were real lap joints?”

If anyone was curious what a $10k bookshelf looks like

    • @andI201d

Serious. 3 layers of 3/4"?? Damnn. At the very least you could run strapping in the middle layer and it would cost/weigh less. Good job none the less, that's a lot of joints.
