@Sparky Channel. Thanks Bill for the great tutorial on how to use a speed square for more than just a right angle saw guide.. Your graphics really help in understanding how to calculate and mark off for the different rafter cuts. Hope you and your family stay safe and well.
I’ve used a speed square in my shop for so many things and they either get broken, bent, or I lose them. I don’t think I could lose something so big and blue. Thanks sparky!
I have several different brands but my favorite is Swanson due to the thickness of the metal and the depth of the markings. I am not a fan of laser etching. Pitch is rise divided by span. Slope is rise divided by run. They are two different things. 4:12 is a slope, not a pitch.
Great video. A refresher on all of the uses of these amazing tools is always a good thing. Thanks Sparky.
I love my Empire set. Other companies make very nice ones as well but I'm used to these and I don't lose them because of the color. Thanks Gary!

A speed square is your best friend. I use it all the time. A seat cut sometimes also called a bird's mouth. Nice video. 👍
Yes, absolutely. "Bird's mouth" is a common name for that cut. A funny one too. LOL!
Another great video, thanks Bill
You bet!
