@@ChrisCondon thanks for sharing back in 1985 during the great run by the Chicago Bears I was 21 my now wife was 20 we went to Lincoln Mall to get Dan Hamptons autograph at Merle Harmon's fan fair it was a sports store later that season the bears won the super bowl alot of time spent here THANKS FOR SHARING!!
So sad. I practically grew up at this mall. My sister and I were mall rats before the term was even invented. We both worked at a restaurant named Demler's at 3:29. The store with the green facade was an Osco Drug. The original anchors were Penney's Wards, Carson's and Weiboldt's. Weiboldts was replaced about 10 years later by Sears. Wards was never replaced but torn down as was Penney's which closed about 2000. It is located at Lincoln Highway (US 30) and Cicero Ave (IL 50) in Matteson, IL. It opened in 1973.
I spent plenty of time in this mall as well in the 80's and 90's. I remember vividly eating in the McDonalds that used to be on the lower level as a little kid. As a teen, Athens Gyros was probably my favorite place to eat at the mall. I went there in 2010 after not having lived there for quite some time and it was sad.
The arcade was originally called "LeMan's Speedway" it had a bumper car track in the back (it was a big arcade) They had a head shop next to McDonald's that sold pipes and rolling papers and magic tricks, "Joker's Wild" I think it was called. My buddy worked at the "Record Bar" and back in '85 I helped inventory the entire store one night after the mall closed. I counted all the buttons-- endless Michael Jackson and Duran Duran faces as I recall. Around 2am that night some New Wave teenyboppers came to the entrance of the store and serenaded us with, 'Let's do the Time Warp again!!..." from the Rocky Horror Picture Show-- it was the featured Midnight Movie at the mall movie theater that night. I don't know how they got in the mall--it was empty save for us counters and some security. We looked up, listened and barely acknowledged them then got back to counting endless records and tee shirts. They laughed and danced away into the big suburban night. The mall looked different back then, earth tones and brick floors and not very well lit. Water fountains by the anchor stores and you could smoke everywhere. RIP Lincoln Mall.
jkaufman77 I recall going on Saturday mornings to catch the Aladdin’s Castle “early bird” special. When leaving I would look at the clothing shop across from it and catch sales on their discount tables. This had to be around 1983
Yep, I remember playing After Burner, Punch Out, Shadow Dancer while my Mom would sit outside smoking her cigarette right outside on the bench. Haha! Good times. Nothing beat going there and buying PC games from Software Etc. I bought Arena (the first Elder Scrolls), Legend of Kyrandia, and Street Rod for DOS.
I have so many childhood memories in that mall. I remember going to Bath and Body Works every January, seeing Santa, and getting pretzels at Auntie Annie's.
Wanna know something sad? The last store left a part of Lincoln Mall - Carson's.. went out of business after they tore the mall down. R.I.P. Lincoln Mall.
I used to work at the Kids Health Club here! Crazy to see the abandoned Sbarro’s, Funcoland, Old Navy and all of the other stores I grew up shopping at. Great video.
I remember the mall opening in 1973. I was in H.S I loved the mall. I worked in the Sears and Carsons. So sad to see it bite the dust. hope they tear it down soon Looking at it just depresses me. RIP Lincoln Mall. open 42 years.
I used to live near by and go there after school and on the weekends, lots of great memories there. I moved away after I graduated and wanted to return when I saw it was closing but didn't have the chance. Thank you for the trip down memory lane
wow. this was my home mall. I was a mallrat here in the 80's and 90's. I had my first kiss there. I worked at more than a couple of the stores there. At one point, I probably worked 60 hours a week there. I love abandoned place videos, but this one hurt my heart a bit. I mean, thank you. It is cool. It just hit really close to home.
WOW! It's hard for me to believe that this was the mall I worked at in 1978, fresh out of university. Wow! Amazing film. Seeing the sadness of this empty place and then think about when it was alive and vibrant. I worked at a record store that was by Sears... I remember that well because shop lifters always ran through Sears to try and get away from us store clerks. Thanks for posting.
I did security there back in 1997. The ceiling in front of that McDonald's had a small hole in it. An old security guard told me that a lady dropped her purse and there was a loud "bang." When security got there, her purse had a hole in it and she had a .357 in it. Dropped the purse, gun went off. First thing I did as security was go inside the old abandoned alladins castle arcade near lower Montgomery wards. (Lower east). That made me feel like I was 10 years old again. I grew up in that arcade..lol
I remember during high school, I would get on the 357 bus that dropped off by the Carson Pirie Scott. Get there at 10, head to Auntie Annie's or the record store(I think it was Sam Goody). Then I would go to the Rogers & Hollands and stare at jewelry I couldn't afford. Swing by Sears and Montgomery Ward look for party outfits. You would go to the Orange Julius and then to Victoria Secret and Spencer Gifts if Bath &Body Works was crowded. Last stop was either Foot Locker or Sbarro's. I would spend hours in the mall with my friends. As an adult, I went to Rainbow, Foot Locker, Great Steak & Potato, some store with New York in the title, and then hit the dollar store and hit clearance racks in every clothing store. I remember that the mall would open at 9am for the seniors to do their walking exercise.
The mall was open even earlier than 9am. I worked at Carson’s in 1997/1998 and first shift was 5am to unload the truck. By 7am or so when the truck was unloaded and I was wheeling merchandise out to the floor, I would see people walking already.
I used to go here when I was young. There was once this pizza joint in it with this guy me and my parents liked working behind the counter. It's unreal to see the state it's in here. At some point, I'm sure they're gonna bring it down. These may be among the last pictures to be taken of the place before they demolish it...
They tore the mall down in pretty short order. For a while Carson's was open ,but they closed just out of the blue one day and didn't even tell the employees. That Carson's was in pretty bad shape though. You could see water damage on some parts. I had so many memories in that mall. At 4:17 you guys walked into the place where I used to get my glasses from. I remember going in around Christmas time before the mall closed just to see what it was like and seeing homeless people trying to stay warm. At 5:59 I believe that is the store where I got a ring repaired. I really liked the aesthetic of that mall a lot. The mall was declining for several years so a lot of stuff was closed before the mall itself even closed.
@@ThePeaceofWildThings Yeah I remember there was a rumor some wealthy investor wanted to buy the mall and turn it into like a movie theatre and a place where you could go bowling and play arcade games and I think have some sort of living situation there too? But they wouldn't let them buy it.

The demolished areas were crudely covered-up, allowing those parts to deteriorate further, and basic utilities that had been disconnected during demo were never hooked back up. Also they graded the upper-level parking lot back down to ground level, which left emergency exits on the second floor opening to a 20' drop - those were welded shut. The village finally realized this and inspectors found a grocery list of other safety hazards, which they took to court. The mall couldn't afford the repairs, and the courts finally forced them to shut down. One anchor is still open, but has closed-off its mall entrance.
In the 90's is when I lost my car in the parking lot! I was visiting in Country Club Hills from California. The security rode me through the parking lot till the alarm on my keys buzzed for me, and there It was! ☺

@@cupofmaddyVODS Let us look at this as though it was still standing (Giggity). Technically they committed trespass and breaking and entering. It got so bad in Akron at Rolling Acres that the city had to WELD THE DOORS CLOSED to keep intruders out. The same in Milwaukee at Northridge.

I remember this mall... They are now demoloshing it.... :(
I live here now and when I look at the mall I always wonder what it's like
I remember when one of the last places was a perfume store and it was so quiet when I went there and there was a great popcorn store
I live near the mall but it is now torn down but I am young and only been there on eve when in my car with my dad I always see an empty lot thing what you could do with it

Where is this
Illinois.. it’s demolished now
I wouldnt venture in after playing Silent Hill 3 :P I was about to ask with that is Lincoln Nebraska but just saw ur comment it is IL.
I think you should leave things the way it was found when the mall was closed.
Tammy Smith they didn't really do anything. For the most part they never do. They move a couple objects for a picture and that's it. Besides. What does it matter? The mall is demolished now.
Where exactly is Lincoln Mall?
Matteson,Il. The entire mall has been demolished now.
I used to ride my bike from steger to this mall. Sad.....
Too bad you didn't have a real led light to show & explore all that was blacked out due to your lack of light

you can get permission from authorities. otherwise, you could get arrested if a cop sees this video genius
can't arrest past tense for trespassing must be caught on site..
He would have been arrested already if that was how it works genius. You can't arrest someone for trespassing if they're not on that site at the moment.
