Couldn't have done it without this video. Thanks! Did a filter & fluid change (07' 4.0L) and was shocked to find no dip stick. The pump was $7.97 at Wal-Mart-in the air compressor aisle. (Made by Pennzoil--not the best pump but did the job--did not make full fluid pumps with each pump) Took out the large plug to drain - it may be metric but a 7/8 fit on nice and snug. I worked the clear tube into the hole of the plug. It only goes in a little bit but it does grab a thread on the inside and does hold while pumping. From under the car I could not get it to grab until I pre-threaded the tube. Then put the large plug back in and twisted on the tube. I also kept a clean plastic coffee can next to the new fluid to catch the fluid when I switched from bottle to bottle. Note-Walmart does sell a trans fluid tube $3.83 but I just did what this guy said. Did a filter change and pumped 5.5 qts back in - Started the car-ran awhile then about .5qts came out on testing. Note-The hose will come out if you wiggle it around.
I did this today I don't like the Ford Idea of pumping the fluid into it from the bottom, but I bought the fitting at Autozone and put a pump like the one for gear oils and I collected all the transmission fluid into a 5 quart container perfectly full. Took off the pan and reused the gasket changed the transmission filter (all 8mm bolts) then I just pumped 5 quarts back in and added a half quart of Lucas Oil Conditioner. And it rides better than ever no hard shifts.
thanks for this! It worked perfectly. For others who attempt this, note that the car must be on and at running temperature before you pull the hose. It sounds crazy but it will just completely drain all the fluid you put in if the car is not on. As he says, just keep pumping fluid in intervals until it comes back out in a steady stream. thanks!
you can buy a trans pan with a filler tube for this transmission .or you can add a filler tube your self .bolt it to the front of the trans pan ,and where it can be routed up to the engine compartment .if you retain the stock pan ,use a small shut off valve ,and screw it into the pan .
the front pump seal may not be leaking, if the transmission were overfilled, the fluid would be pushed up and out of the blow by tube which happens to terminate inside the bell housing, I learned the hard way had transmission fluid flush at firestone with one of there expensive machines that they said could not possible over fill my transmission, well I am here to tell you I had to drain three quarts out, the unfortunate part was I did not discover the machine had overfilled until I had pulled the transmission changed the front pump seal in my 2005 ford mustang 5 speed automatic, firestone still denied the fluid flush machine could have overfilled, well years later I had the shop manager of that firestone working in a new shop who told me the truth those machine fail to put the right amount in on the low side and high side. the bad thing is firestone techs did not know how to check for overfilled condition. proper procedure the trans dipstick is in a way included in the drain/filler plug it is hollow and stop at a point inside the transmission where when the center t30 plug is removed and the transpan temp is at 130 fahrenheit measure on the pan you allow fluid to run out until the fluid stream is about the thickness of a no 2 pencil lead thickness then replace the center t30 plug you are good to go.
Brooooooo! Thank you! I did the same exact thing except I actually removed the nuts, but somehow the torque converter stayed connected! Thank you thank you thank you!
Should have changed the trans filter and cleaned the inside of pan & magnetic washer. Use the original pan gasket and buy a new trans filter for $20-$23..
Anyone know the size of the tube used to fill?? I’m not changing the fluid just want to add or I’d take the plug in to the hardware store. Someone has to know??
great post,, great info,, my '05 Mustang is slipping a lil,,,I believe it's low a couple/few quarts,, how do I know how many quarts I should add? do I over fill then pull out the torx nut run engine to normal operating temperature and let it drain until it stops leaking?
if you remove the oil pan how many quart do you need please share pump type and hose fit size if possible my trans after changed oil get an issue with gearing in D & R no acceleration very low does that mean oil is low or TCM unit issue or could be solenoid pack case
Hey friend. I'm topping my transmission off but when I take the pump off and let the fluid come out it just doesn't stop. Am I adding enough liquid? Does the car need to be on for it to stop on its own?
So I was doing this to my 09 mustang and when I was pumping the transmission fluid it started to leak when u pumped it in. Did u have the same problem?
I have a question because I have a Ford mustang v6 4.0 2007 and my question is where's the oil dipstick transmission locate at ? If you can please let me know
hi I have a mustang 09 v6 automatic transmission I drained the pan a amount of 4 quarts were out and on the pumping it was full with 9 and a half quarts what you think I should do
So when you take the plug completely out to drain the fluid, what happens to the fluid in the torque converter? I would assume that half of it (the lower half) would stay in there correct?
Yes if u just drain the tranny from the bolt, the converter would retain the fluid. But if u disconnect the return line and let it pour into a pan while u crank the car and pour in fluid at the same time (obviously with some help), until u start seeing clear fluid then all ur fluid is new
WRONG! Engine must be running to check fluid You crank the engine and while running after it heats up you check the level by pulling the hose, (not pipe) out until it just dribbles...screw the plug back in...
Shocked you fill from the bottom and you have to guess at the level! Ford this is a terrible design. No dipstick either.. why not a fill plug up on side?
The fill point of full is not a guess, this method is called stand pipe method where the plug is a pipe that stands up to above the fluid in the pan just to the point that with the torex plug removed just drips not runs out when full. If it is running out it is over full and when it stops totally the fluid level is full. The car has to be running so that the syntrivical force of the torque converter keeps the converter filled to max running level and the remainder of proper level is in pan. Turning car off while torex plug is out will cause half the fluid in torque converter to drain out of pan through stand pipe torex plug leaving the transmission a few quarts low. Not having a regular dipstick was done to seal the transmission from possible contamination through dipstick tube and was meant to last 100,000 plus miles under normal use or at least that was the engineering design thought when it was designed. This also makes DIYers leass likely to do servicing their transmissions far less likely and a high dollar shop profit for the dealers.
Thank you for a simple CLEAR explaination and how- to. I'm happy to know NOW that all I need is more fluid and not something unfixable.

Cool video. But it would have be great and informative to tell folks the size of the hose you used
Exactly what I was looking for

Thanks dude, This helped me save $288 dollars to have ford to do it
They want $406 now the scam artists.
That's some of Ford's better ideals Now does the car gotta be level or can just have the front end jacked up when you're checking the fluid
Will burnt fluid cause my transmission to jump out of gear? Does not slip..goes to neutral
Anyone know the size of the tube used to fill?? I’m not changing the fluid just want to add or I’d take the plug in to the hardware store. Someone has to know??
Did you ever find the best size of tube to refill it ?
this might sound like a dumb question but does this trans have a pump that circulates the trans oil???

Is there a dipstick under the hood? Or only from undeeneath

That's a great idea Thank you for sharing it Great Job👍🏽
Is it bad to overfill the transmission?
Thanks a lot!! That means a lot coming from a certified mechanic 👍
Do all 4 wheels need to be off the ground at level. or just the 2 front tires fine?ive never changed the fluid so i wouldnt know
The car should be level ... So yes all four in an ideal safe way
Yes all 4 wheels.
Thanks a new one on me lot of information
Why did u change it ? Was it cz ur car was slipping or some like that ?
Will it be the same for a GT?
Good stuff and I am ASE certified. I would of hooked it up to a trans machine fluid exchanger. I dont work in a fancy shop anymore good post.
So I was doing this to my 09 mustang and when I was pumping the transmission fluid it started to leak when u pumped it in. Did u have the same problem?
By the way I have a 09 V6 automatic Transmission
thanks for the video cause I have no clue how to install the fluid
It's not difficult but u should have some idea of what ur doing .... Have questions ? Plz ask
Will do and thanks
I have a question because I have a Ford mustang v6 4.0 2007 and my question is where's the oil dipstick transmission locate at ? If you can please let me know

What size is that drain plug
T 30
7/8 inch
Good stuff!
hi I have a mustang 09 v6 automatic transmission
I drained the pan a amount of 4 quarts were out and on the pumping it was full with 9 and a half quarts what you think I should do
M Faisal Nazari That sounds bad! how can your trans be that low of 5.5 quarts? The engine trans temp must be warm to hold some of the amount of fluid.
I have a hard shift on second gear can I add Lucas transmission oil
i have an 06 gt when you refill transmission fluid dose the car have to be on please respond thanks
mario almazan no the car should not be on ...

It all stays in coverter unless you flush the whole trans. Not needed.
which is the measure of this Transmission Fluid Fill Adapter?
lander velez This T30 hex is about the size of 1/8 inch. I just got a peice of pipe from home depot for a couple bucks. And pump from pepboys
Me too!
is this a manual transmission
what is the size specs on the that clear tube you have in
I was trying this tomorrow. If you remember what size tube/pipe y’all used , let me know . Thanks
Where did ya get the clear tube from??
whats the maximum speed you can pump it?? i noticed you didnt pump it... do you like pump it a couple times and let it sit for awhile then resume?
Will all the fluid drain out if I just remove the screw? I'm adding transmission maintenance fluid
I have a 05 mustang gt manual transmission and it’s leaking from one of the lines. So how do I know how much transmission fluid t put...
disable the fuel pump ,and crank the engine to draw more fluid into the transmission .you can use a 1/8 thread barbed hose fitting ,cost $2.
WRONG! Engine must be running to check fluid
You crank the engine and while running after it heats up you check the level by pulling the hose, (not pipe) out until it just dribbles...screw the plug back in...
Not supposed to drain all the fluid and replace with all new. Going to break his trans
How often do you change the transmission fluid and how do you drain the torque converter with out pulling the engine?
Transmission fluid should be changed every 100k miles
@@fontunetheteller410 I have a 2006 4.0L pony ed. Mustang with only has 41,000 miles it'll be over 30 years old when it gets 100,000 miles ;)
