I actually sell bamboo as a private seller. I have very limited quantity. I only carry incense bamboo (phyllostachys astrovaginata). Growing very well in my "almost" four year old grove. Extremely cold hardy, extremely drought hardy, flood hardy. I live in northern Utah, so it takes extremes.
I also live in northern Utah, and am interested in planting bamboo. What is the name of your business and/or contact information? Or is there a way I can contact you privately?
My sister’s neighbor planted bamboo, the running kind, which my sister quickly renamed damboo. It took over my sister’s backyard. She tried everything to kill it, to no avail. It would grow a foot a day. Her backyard had to be completely dug up to get the rhizomes out. She sold that house. I’m glad to hear you got the clumping kind. I would hate for you to have to go through what she did. Y’all have made a big difference on that property. Looks like things are going well for y’all. I’ve missed y’all. Give Little Miss Sunshine a hug for me. Blessings, Love & Hugs from Vicki in Ft. Worth, Texas 🇨🇱🇺🇸👍❤️🥰🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏
I am in Granbury, Texas and looking for a bamboo privacy screen in my backyard to make neighbors disapear. Having a difficult time trying to figure out a good clumping Bamboo to use. Was looking at Fargesia Robusta or Golden Goddess or maybe others. Anyone have suggestions? Growing zone 8, north Texas.
Actually if you take the time to learn about how any bamboo grows it actually can be managed without all the craziness. You have to work with nature and unfortunately most of the time when one goes to battle with bamboo they are working against it and that is a no win situation. If you learn about how it grows and spreads and when the plant is robust and when it is weaker you can use all of that to your advantage. Plus also learning about timing with bamboo is vital. Even running bamboo can be Managed if you arm yourself with knowledge of the species (it's different then most other plants) and you work with nature. Just wanted to say that Incase anyone was on the fence regarding it and read your message.
Cant wait to see bamboo seminar. If it what you say answers. To my prayers. I need a privacy fence . Cant afford board fence. I hope it works Thank you for taking me along May god bless you and yours thought you. Had quit the tube.
This method was much more expensive per linear foot than a traditional wooden fence. In this instance it worked out though but we needed it to be very high. My home is on a hill so that was very important to me. The bamboo will also create a thick sound barrier which is very helpful if your neighbors are loud.
I love bamboo. That is going to be a nice fence line. I learned that bamboo is a great resource about 10 years ago. Companys have learned to use it in all kinds of things. I love my bamboo sheets. Here in the heat of Florida it sure helps. because they are cooler than cotton.
I miss your videos! Wish you could have scheduled video days so we can look forward to hanging out with you each week. Love the garden and little homestead adventure you are on in this season of life.
That's a great idea!! We're working on a schedule now. Do you have a suggestion for a specific day or time you'd like to see new content? Thanks Melinda!!
Thanks ! Really appreciate all the detail . I wonder about how long for it to be “established” , I love to water but , even though I live in the Pacific Northwest water is SO expensive where I live .
I'm so interested in discovering how your clumping bamboos are doing and if they give you the much-needed privacy! I found your video while researching red dragon bamboo to put up my hill, as neighbors can peer into everything we do. Would love an updated video if you ever need content ideas lol
Things may likely have changed in 2 years, but where the brush was to prevent erosion, I wonder if berry brambles or ostrich ferns might work as part of edible food forestry. By chance, although it is not a human food staple like those, button bush feeds pollinators and is resilient in both rainy and arrid areas. The USDA also includes some history on the plant. Among the scientists who've studied it was a phD student named Gabriel Trujillo. I did not know him, but deeply respect the dedication to his field biology work before his recent passing.
Amazing, can I some guidance on what species should I user? 1. living in NC, we have clay soil 2. I have some steel raised bed ready for this project (if we go with runner stuff) 3. need some like 10 to max 15 feet height for look / privacy inside out backyard next to our 6' Vinyl fence. what type of plant is better for us to use? tnx so much
Thank you for sharing what u know. As what u said this is for fence purpose . As what I see there are gaps in between. Can u show us what it looks like after certain time? When do we get the fence structure I need ur follow up video plc
Hi. Sorry, you may already mentioned it in the video but I could not understand it. Which bamboo is it? Is it a Fargesia Robusta Campbell? I am just planning in buying a few of these :) Thanks.
Great idea! I was thinking of wax myrtle for a privacy hedge, I need enough for 1/2 mile on my farm though. Will look into bamboo but the price per linear feet will probably be too high, do you mind telling us how much the cost was for this variety of bamboo?
Just a suggestion for your future vids, when your voice can be barely heard, don't add the background music. It just makes it that more difficult to hear what you're saying.
This species takes about 65 years to seed or flower from a mature grove. I for one will not be around. Bamboo does flower but over a very long time span. Like lifetimes.
@@madtabula6638 That is the danger. Than, why not native evergreens? I have seen predictions that in 500years the whole planet could be covered in Bamboo because no one cares until it is too late.
@@Schmunzel57 Totally get your point and I didn't mean to come of as uncaring. But why 500 years in the future? Bamboo is actually native to southeastern United States. Humans have been planting it for about 7000 years. This information is readily available on the web.

I had the clumping at my house in diamondhead and it was great. It grew very tall.
Looks great! Curious to see how they are doing a year later.

At $50 per plant, our budget allowed us to cover a span of only 50ft. We would have liked to plant more but are happy with this for now.

Bamboo Update 🙏🏾❤️
Been a hair over 2 years, how's the bamboo?
Very informative, thank you!
How much did that 50’ of bamboo cost u. I’m looking to do similar
So cool. What is it about bamboo that turns us on? How is your bamboo growing now?
Enjoyed your video. I would like some bamboo in my yard in Canada west coast
Awesome! 💕
(If it gets out of control just tell people your back up plan was always “bamboo farmer”)
I live in La. How much a clump does that cost?

Lovely.
at 3:00 I thought we had an Anaconda laying in wait.........LoL
Haha, I can see "it"
Updated video on how is looking now ?
I purchased seed online,called Umbrella,fargesia spathacea,is this clumping variety?
I was researching a Fargesia Red Dragon myself, and it said it was clumping. I don't want the invasive runner type lol
Will the fence come down once the bamboo begins to grow? Or will it just swallow the fence?
The t-posts between the plants are just there for bracing. We will remove them sometime next year.
Def do not need all the extra effort to stabilize the bamboo but good job looks nice
Nice.. which species of bamboo ?
very nice, 8 feet expansion?
I have questions. Main one being... Is there a way to email y'all or some sort contact? I live in the Houston area.
How does it look now?
can these bamboos grow in kentucky?
Where are you please? What's the latin name of the bamboo? Thanks
Did you move? I must of missed that video.. Are you still next door to DSH?
Just a suggestion for your future vids, when your voice can be barely heard, don't add the background music. It just makes it that more difficult to hear what you're saying.
Is it possible to grow a living fence in Ohio?
Any updates a year later?
Can I grow this bamboo in pots
What county do yall live in?
What is your location or planting zone?
Looks like your going to need a screen, With the building site next door.
Does this kind only spread be seeds? What will you do at time of flowering?

I've had to deal with bamboo before. trust me you don't want it on your property
I need this to block out a neighbor.
You will regret it. I promise.
