I’ve been through The Badlands, Mt. Rushmore and Deadwood. I’ve crossed the country 6 times. 3 we took our time to sightsee. South Dakota was a big favorite.

Robert, I know you're not a fan of Wall Drug, but I think stopping there at least once is a rite of passage for any road tripper. When I was there in 2000, the big animated T-Rex with the sirens and lights and foggy mist swirling around was one of the coolest things I'd ever seen.Speaking of dinos, did you see the "80 Foot Dinosaur" just east of town? It was made by the same guy who did the sculptures for Dinosaur Park that overlooks Rapid City. See you on Friday...happy trails!

Another great video, Robert! As another viewer mentioned, I love these longer-duration movies. Your hike through the Badlands reminded me of some hikes in southeastern Death Valley. I lived in South Dakota for over a decade--you have visited Wall Drug 2 more times than necessary. It's like those kids in junior high who would do something irritating to get attention and then say, "Made you look!" :)

Outstanding "movie"! I love that you spent so much time in the Badlands. I've been thru most of the places you visited in SD but never in such depth. It was wonderful to revisit The Badlands, Needles Highway and Wall Drug, etc. The Needles highway with all the lakes was really awesome. Thank you for sharing! Fantastic! (My husband loved all your cooking segments - steak!) 😅
Robert I just love your appreciation for the beauty of this country and your showing us all of it. The trash on the lake trail is very disappointing. We see it here in NH in our National forest. Never really saw it much until recent years, no respect anymore for our nature. So sad.
We’re heading up there this summer..going to do a family project ..and pick up everything we see laying around to clean up the trail..might leave a few “ give a hoot, don’t pollute”signs ;-)

Your kind of doing our trip we are doing in September 2024 to the Midwest National parks from middle Georgia thru the Badlands to Yellowstone , Grand Tetons and then back through Cheyenne , Lincoln NE, St Louis , Chattanooga, then Warner Robins Ga. 😊, great info from your travels 👍

We were there with our kids in 1993 and it appears the Crazy Horse looks the same way we left him. Another thing I noticed that there are a lot more bison now then 30 years ago. Wow! Another great video Robert! 👍
I just commented that I was there in 1994 with family. The same day OJ was in his white bronco. Crazy horse has seemingly had nothing done to it since.

New to your channel, I REALLY enjoyed this trip.
Next time you are at Mt Rushmore, look for the 4 tunnels on state Highway 16 (if memory serves me correct). They line up with Mt Rushmore! Make sure to stop at the second or third tunnel, and take a picture of the monument - they line up each tunnel directly with the monument.
If you know about the tunnels, you can see 3 of them from the top level of the Mt Rushmore parking area. Look for a strip of "Removed" trees, and you can see a little white spec, where the tunnel is cut through the mountain.

I love any & all footage of Devil's Tower & the movie. I, too, visited it back in 2017, enjoyed the 1.5 mile walk around the perimeter base, the museum & really soaked up everything I could about Devil's Tower. Lucky MEeee, I drove up a driveway of a nearby ranch house & asked permission to overnight,. They said, OK. To this day, I enjoy my memories of my visit.
Keystone is a classic tourist trap, a big turn off as was Mt Rushmore. I was unwilling to pay to park so I simply drove my & gave it a thumbs down.
Vehicles parking in oversize areas for RV not near as often as RV's park & take up 2-3 spaces for cars. RV also are all too often parking in spaces for trucks at truck stops & rest areas.

Great video. We were at Mt. Rushmore, Crazyhorse, and Badlands late June 2022 also. Maybe we crossed paths and didn't know it. 🤔
We didn't make it to Devil's Tower, unfortunately, as we took a different route through Wyoming via Riverton to Rapid City.
