Thanks so much for taking the time to produce this video! Awesome! It answers a ton of questions I had about fitting a hybrid bike in the Ioniq 5. Cheers!
Very helpful, especially the point about moving the back seats forward to open a gap for the pedal. A further tip - if you have straight handlebars, the one pointing down may fit in the space next to the passenger door.
Short answer is yes. I usually pop the front wheel of as it gives you more room to avoid dirtying the upholstery. Mine is a large frame. Multiple times this summer we’ve transported his and her bikes inside the cabin. I just rest a blanket over mine to protect the bike’s finish.
Nice vid 👌I usually pop the front wheel off.. Its super easy and makes it easier to load. Make sure to pop a lollipop stick or something similar between the brake disc so they don't stick together on the journey!
May I give you a Tip? You can easily remove the front wheels by replacing your bicycle with a QR (quick release) lever, and it is also very convenient to store your bicycle in the trunk. You can get it on Amazon for a few dollars.
Try U-Haul, which sells and installs Curt hitches. They're Class 3, which means they have a 2" receiver vs. the 1-1/4" receiver on teh OEM hitch, and can haul up to 2500 pounds (probably more than your bike weighs). If you prefer to install the hitch yourself, the Curt hitch is relatively straightforward to install..
I would never put my bike on the roof or the back of a car. It destroys the aerodynamics and it makes it unnecessarily dirty. I have no problem putting even a huge fatbike into the Ioniq 5 without removing the front wheel. The trick is to put the front wheel first and to angle it while putting it in. You also want to secure the bike with at least one rear seatbelt and this is easiest when the handlebar is in the front (left). I had a CX-5 before like you and it was harder to put in and take out my huge bikes than with the Ioniq 5. So I’m very happy with the car for this reason alone.
Thanks for this demonstration. I was pretty sure I could get my bike in an Ioniq 5 and now I am certain. But, I am more interested in the Ioniq 6 and it looks like my bike (medium sized mountain bike with 26" wheels) might not fit in the back. Now that you have an Ioniq 6, how about demonstrating whether or not a bike will fit and, if so, how difficult the task is.
Can the EV fit a bike? was a top metric for me in buying my Ioniq 5. I prefer to put my bike, both wheels on, in the back, for security and convenience on those in town rides. Roll the rear wheel in toward the driver side with the drive train up. It works but the wider bars on a mountain bike can get a little tight against the rear window. Have a platform rack in the dealer installed hitch and testing this next to see how much the range drops on a 200 mile trip
@@TheIoniqGuy For the last three weeks, I drove round trip from an EA station north of Phoenix to an EA station in Flagstaff. It's 115 miles, but 5200 feet in elevation gain. ABRP was good at determining final battery level at destination, but still, being a new owner, I wanted to be sure I made it. Unfortunately I didn't look at before and after on this last trip with the rack to get a good comparison. Didn't seem like there was a big drop in battery use compared to the other two trips, however I drove a little slower. Rack is a Kuat NV 2.0. Worked well, especially hauling a muddy bike home staying outside the car. The hitch is lower than what I see in your videos - sticks out more but the bike is lower behind the vehicle.
Great video! I'm glad you covered the bike rack because I've been thinking of installing a hitch and getting one for a while. Two questions though: 1. How does leaving the bike rack on your car affect the Ioniq's efficiency? 2. I'm assuming leaving the rack on the car is only safe enough if you have a garage to store the car most of the time? Could someone easily steal the rack itself if you left the car outside? I unfortunately only have a carport where I am living, plus I live upstairs, so the idea of hauling our bikes AND the bike rack up and down the stairs doesn't sound fun. haha
I haven't really looked into it because I only carry my bicycles a handful of miles 99% of the time. The hitch pin has a lock that utilizes a key so it would be very difficult to steal the bike rack unless someone wanted to use an angle grinder on that bolt.
sorry, I don't speak English, so I don't know what you're talking about, but I have a question....when the bike holder is in the back of the car, does it matter when backing up to the charger??? Thanks
I have two foldable bikes and I usually put them in the back, since I don't have a hitch on my current car. For full unfoldable bikes it's best just to have a hitch bike rack. That one that you have is pretty neat with the theft deterrent lock and the tilt away feature. Something new to add to my list of accessories. Edit: FYI your link (B07LFJB877) takes you to the $419 price one which this one (B07D94B52G) is the price you mention in the video.
Thanks for this video. What about a bike in a soft sided bike bag? I'm traveling with my bike next month and have a dakine Bike Roller Bag (55 x 13 x 34" [ 140 x 33 x 86cm ]). It loooooks like it'll fit. How tall is the opening for the hatch? will a bag 34" tall fit? Also, one recommendation I have for bike racks is to get one that holds the bike by the tire. I had a Yakima rack that had the clamp in the middle like yours. It rubbed the paint on my bike down to the metal. :(
Hey there, thanks for the videos. My SE should be arriving in a few weeks and I'll get a hitch mounted to use a similar bike rack. Have you noticed any dip in range? I'll be making trips to Denver from northern New Mexico and wondering if it will affect where I'll need to charge
@@TheIoniqGuy I also am a biker, with a road, gravel, and mountain bike. I would opt for the hitch and bike rack there. Do you know if the OEM hitch sticks out the bottom? I'll have to look at some photos of that hitch.

Take the bloody wheels off that's what the quick release lever is for.
Great video, my OCD fear is how to fit in a charger stall with a 4 bike platform rack!

I've ordered the Ioniq 5 and waiting. Absolutely love your bike rack! thanks for sharing !
Just bought a 2023 Ioniq 5; would like to get a hitch installed. Any advice on the hitch installation?

Let me know what you see in terms of efficiency/range decrease due to the rack.

I would hope so, my 2018 Ioniq hybrid did and I would be disappointed if the space was smaller
Thanks - this is a useful video that answers a question I care about.
I put my trek marlin 5 in my ev6 no problem as well.
I stuff my 29'r mountain bike with both wheels on in all the time. It's awesome.
Curious, do you prefer keeping your bike inside over a bike rack?

Prefer a bike rack. I use the Hollywood brand rack for an e-mtn bike and EliptiGo
great info, Thanks
That’s a great bike rack 👍
Exactly what I needed 👌
Just what I needed to know
sorry, I don't speak English, so I don't know what you're talking about, but I have a question....when the bike holder is in the back of the car, does it matter when backing up to the charger??? Thanks
It could potentially interfere with fitting into a charging spot but I think for the most part it wouldn't be too much of an issue

Have you tried the Sea Sucker on the roof?

Nice rack! does the bike rack affect the rear sensors?
It does cause the parking sensors to go off
Eh only $365? That's more than my bike and my current bike rack 😂😂
In comparison to mainstream brands like Thule or Kuat but I hear ya
I wouldn’t lay the bike on top of the derailleur. You might bend it.
Didn't even think of that! Thank you

Yes the OEM hitch sits slightly lower and further out than the Torklift hitch I have
