  • Let's look at the marketing spin, and the actual capabilities of the most expensive, mass produced UTV to date.
    It is overkill, overpriced, and will underperform for most of the use cases Polaris is presenting to you.

    My Ranger was the best investment I could have done on my ranch.. But I bought it new in 2012 for $14,999 . Its done every chore and then some ... Polaris also offered a side by side just like the bobcat as well. Think it was called the Brute .. It just all depends on what your application and needs are .. $60,000 is just insane 😂

      Well said. We had one of the early 90's mules on the farm growing up. It was a work horse. I just bought a Honda Pioneer 700 in June to ride around with my kids, and we love it. But we paid less than a third of a fully loaded XD 1500! I will have to check out the Brute! Didn't know it existed.

    True if your comparing it to a truck obviously the truck is a better choice for a 100 reasons. I have a truck I'm not looking for this to be a truck. Most people have toys, boats, bikes, SXS, campers you get the picture. None of these are smart investments, they are toys to enjoy. I have 2 bikes that cost over 50K and a Ranger XP1000 that was close to $30K. When I compare the Ranger to the bikes it almost seems reasonable since I can use it for work and play 365 days/yr. In my case I'm consolidating 3 toys into one.....bikes are gone and the XP1000 will be replaced by the Ranger 1500 XD. It's 45K for the 3 seat Northstar Ultimate no freight or set-up fees added on. Many dealers don't charge this at all and most reasonable dealers will waive them. So yes it's stupid expensive, and yes a truck or Jeep is a better deal for many reasons that said they do not fill the toy need for some of us. I trailer my Ranger to other states to ride, in Iowa I can drive it almost anywhere and we ride with friends most weekends. So while expensive it fits my needs and many will buy it for this reason. The good news is nobody is making anyone buy it........ it's good to have choices and we all choose how to spend our discretionary income.

      Me too! It's been on order for a while now and I can't wait for it to get here. As I said I agree it's stupid expensive but most of them are now days. I know at least 5 guys in my area that started out with 30K machines (Rangers and Defenders) and have north of $50K in them now. I'm 6'8" and 275 lbs. so the interior space is a big deal to me. I also am after the quieter ride which is the main reason I never pulled the trigger on the new Expedition. (also stupid expensive) @@ChoresOnTheFarmChannel

      Agreed. You can still get a used 4X4 pickup for 5-10k. Might be 20 years old, higher mileage, and ugly/rusty, but it will do a majority of what this 60k SxS will do. How do I know? I have a rusty '99 chevy that I take all over the farm, it has never let me down, and bluebook on it is around 4k.

    For me it comes down to how much time do I spend in it and how comfortable do I want to be. If I'm spending as much time in my SXS as my Denali pickup it is worth it for me to have these comforts. I'm researching new SXS now and seriously looking at this vehicle. I currently own a Polaris 570 Midsize and love it, but it isn't very comfortable and when I'm in it all day I know it. I wouldn't buy this for just farm work I own a skid steer for that stuff. This would be for hunting, fishing, and trail riding with some work, but very light duty work. Not for everyone, but it might be for me.

    Man, you are 100% right. I bought a new 2021 Polaris Generals XP4 with ride command a few years ago and if I had to do it all over again I wouldnt of bought it. I was looking for a new hobby to get into and I got hooked on watching ATV Off-Road parks videos and videos where they are riding in the mountains in Colorado. All in all ive been to a ATV park three times in 2 years and havent made it to Colorado yet. Mostly it gets used taking my family for a evening ride around our subdivision. something a golf cart could do. We do love the damn thing but its not worth the price.

      Hats off to you. Takes a true man to be able to reflect honestly like that. We ran a hand-me-down gas powered Yamaha Golf cart around the farm for years until I got tired of fixing it every couple of weeks, and our family of four started to outgrow it. There are plenty of places on the farm the golf-cart couldn’t go. Replaced it with a 2023 pioneer 700-4 in June after months of research. Been pretty happy with it. Also didn’t spend General or XD 1500 money. Don’t beat yourself up too bad… You are making memories with your family. Memories that will last multiple lifetimes.

    Well it's very easy to see you have not been out west at all. 12" of travel isn't much on rocky soil. I hunt on my uncles ranch in western ND. You never see him or my cousin using a pickup unless absolutely necessary. Always an ATV or UTV. The rocky soil just tears up suspension and steering components on normal equipment, like stock pickups. I have a lifted truck on 35s and I'm still dodging rocks with my differentials on section lines, better yet a stock truck off trail. Speaking of golf carts, those mini trucks fall apart with any off road usage, they weren't built for it. Even the 4wd ones and 4WD is a necessity on even wet summer days better yet in snow here. Also I'm 6ft and a bit heavier, I can't even get the door closed on a mini tuck. Even had my friend push from the outside, nope. Toyotas used to be a good option, not anymore. Get a used pre-pandemic one, if you can find it. Because the soil is poor out west you need a lot more land for cattle, means lots of off trail and rutted out section lines to drive. When you put on 10-30miles a day just getting around the fields you would appreciate the ride a UTV provides. Yes they have tractors, and use them accordingly, but you don't need a tractor for checking calves at midnight, 2 am, 4am, 6am cause the coyotes already snatched a calf. You need something quick and comfortable. He has a hole setup for running electric fence in the bed of his, which is a Kawasaki mule. Yes these seem ridiculous to some, but there is a consumer base that will use them as utility vehicles and not just cause they want to brag (I know there will be plenty of them as well). To be honest the tool cat around here is useless, to slow, to rough riding for UTV use and everyone has skid steers that can run attachments way better, move snow 4x quicker, have way more lift capacity (think whole round bales and such), and move around about as fast. Each area of the country has vastly different needs, remember that. Even in eastern ND they have way different setups as its way flatter and less rocky. More atvs, skidsteers, and massive quad track or 4 corner dual tractors cause the soft ground.

    • @ChoresOnTheFarmChannel
      @ChoresOnTheFarmChannel  9 місяців тому +1

      Appreciate the insight. I also approve of the Mule. Great machines, and we had one of the earliest models on the farm for a decade. I am by no means against UTVs. I have a 2023 Honda Pioneer that was a fraction of the price of these XD 1500's. There is a BIG difference between spending 30k on a purpose built work machine, and spending 60k on a UTV with heated seats. We also have two skid steers on the farm, and most of the attachments interchange with the ToolCat. My dad has a Sportsman 500 that has served him very well. IT goes through CV boots regularly - I only see that problem exacerbated by the terrain you describe. Can't see how a 60k Polaris with a CVT is going to perform better than a 5-10 year old Ranger/Tacoma with some extra money in suspension.

    • @98dodge360v8
      @98dodge360v8 9 місяців тому +1

      @@ChoresOnTheFarmChannel Factory built suspension for the terrain will be easier to get parts for. Also depends on how much money you want to "lose" in a year. Half of being a successful farmer is convincing the goverment you didnt make any money. So why not have a comfortable, heated seat UTV that ran up your costs. It tell you when the high temp for the day is -10F you definitely appreciate heated seats. Now heated seats are really easy to add youself. Believe it or not the pick up of choice isnt a tacoma or ranger for run around use its 70s-2001 chevy 1/2 tons.

    I don't understand why people don't get Polaris isn't making these for the poor rancher with a few cows. The guy looking to buy the 1500XD already has a $100k truck. He doesn't need a cheap Tacoma. Kids in high school dream about Tacoma's. The guy buying this already has a toolcat and a skidsteer and multiple tractors. When you are making money, you can spend money. You are looking at it as if you have little money to buy equipment. Or you can only buy one or the other. That isn't who is buying these Rangers.

    • @ChoresOnTheFarmChannel
      @ChoresOnTheFarmChannel  9 місяців тому +2

      Ehhh. I’d have to disagree to a certain extent. I’d bet a lot of guys are financing these. I also said in the video that the perfect use case is a rancher who has too much money. The number of actual big money ranchers in the country who can write the checks to buy these outright isn’t going to make production worth it for Polaris. Highly comped sales executives with hobby farms? Maybe. Oil barons that own multi-thousand acre ranches. Maybe.
      Guys that are making good money, and actually using these things the way Polaris markets them are going Kubota and John Deere. They are buying new heads for their multiple combines for 60k a piece. Not buying Cadillac golf carts.

      @@ChoresOnTheFarmChannel Doesn't really matter if they pay cash or finance people will buy them. There are all kinds of Polaris Ranger 1000s for sale around here because people have a 1500 on order. People are saying that right in their ad. I don't know where you are getting $60k. I believe Polaris was saying $50k for a loaded one. You are also stuck on this rancher thing. That is an ad. Chevy did the same thing in the 90s. All the ads were of farmers in cowboy hats. It's just an ad. People think they are tuff enough to ranch they can handle anything. They are also not golf carts. They are a long long way from a golf cart. You are also getting stuck on the pics in the ad. The guy had one bag of feed over his shoulder, and you get all bent out of shape. Maybe that was the last bag. Maybe he had 10-15 bags in the bed before they took that pic. The Ranger would easily handle that many bags. It actually sounds like you are jealous of people that will buy this Ranger. Like there is no real use for this Ranger. You couldn't be more wrong.

      @@mossman381 I respect your opinion and see your point. My video was just as much an analysis of their marketing (which we both seem to agree is a little silly) as it was bashing a machine that I can't afford, and wouldn't buy if I could. I truly believe there is a better vehicle, at a lower price for MOST people's specific use case. If money truly is no object, and someone has a massive property, and wants to enjoy the biggest baddest UTV to date - I am not going to cry about it. But you can get a Ranger XP and a new John Deere 3025E with the homesteader package for similar money. FYI - just built a Ranger XD Crew 1500 NorthStar Ultimate with the Hunt Collection. MSRP as configured (with no additional accessories added) is $56,549. Add destination, and dealer prep fee and you are at 60k. Adding a couple of racks and upgraded factory wheels took it to $59,359 My liberal home state will also not allow you to claim farm exemption any longer on UTVs/ATVs - so I am paying sales tax on top of that

    I have a fully loaded Northstar Ultimate on order and can't wait to get behind the wheel! People complain about the price, that's fine, it's not for you. I was originally looking at an expedition, but this machine will be much more capable and much quieter. I don't like the High revving machines that make you deaf by the end of the day, and the low end torque equate to lower engine RPM's and should make it much better for pleasure rides with the family, and rides into the backcountry looking for game. The torque will really be helpful in the winter when the tracks go on for playing in the snow.
    I agree this machine isn't for everyone, and certainly not for every budget, but to complain about the price over and over is just whining.

    • @ChoresOnTheFarmChannel
      @ChoresOnTheFarmChannel  9 місяців тому +4

      The entire point of the video is me whining about the price. If you can afford a fully loaded Northstar, you are using it for pleasure/recreation rides, and you are going to put tracks on it, you are in the top 1% of earners in the country. Not knocking you at all - I aspire to get there as well. I absolutely do not, and will never have the "must be nice" mentality. Fact is, this video was made for the 99% of people whose money would be better spent elsewhere. I am ok with being called whiny by the very slim minority of viewers who can afford and justify this machine.

      With that being said, the Bobcat would never work as my hunting rig. @qb101 5 місяців тому +9

    This whole video gives the feel of, "I don't get it and I can't afford it, so it's stupid to sell it or buy it." Like, comparing this to the Bobcat and a base Tacoma is like comparing a chainsaw to a snowblower to a table saw and telling us which one is more useful. It's down to the job you need it to do and what you want to use it for.
    Don't want to use your High Country to hall feed? Cool. Can't get a pickup out to remote locations of a large Montana ranch? Done. Want something you can use for work on the farm and take out on the trail? The Taco isn't going to fit the bill.
    The MOST expensive proposition is buying 4 vehicles to do 4 jobs. If you have $130k to do that, then go for it. I think the fact that you are going to head to a dealer and end up on a wait list to get one of these probably should tell you that it may not work for you, but it clearly works for a lot of people.

    All depends on interests. If you buy one strictly for farm use then this is totally overkill. If you use it for work and play then that’s a little different. Surely on the east can’t you can’t take any truck on most trails. It’s not like the cost for trucks aren’t stupid priced. Used market is stupid. They are all overpriced. But things like a better sealed cab make sense over a standard ranger northstar ranger. I think this unit is more for checking fields,cattle on large areas and trail riding.

    • @ChoresOnTheFarmChannel
      @ChoresOnTheFarmChannel  9 місяців тому

      Understand. Maybe it is my ignorance of "the wild wild west". We can take a pickup truck on every farm lane we have.. because a Combine also has to use those farm lanes. If you are checking vast spans of fence or meadows, my thought is a truck will do it. If you want a trail rig specifically for ORV trails, this is the biggest rig you can buy. Why not go for something more nimble? I understand that pickup trucks are expensive too. My point is, a mid-sized 4x4 truck, or low trim half-ton is the same price. You can also load up your family and drive an hour to see your mother-in-law in the truck... but not in the Polaris.
      I'd rather spend $100 on a decent knife, $25 on a decent screwdriver, and $75 on a decent saw than spend $200 on a Swiss Army Knife will all those same tools, but performs each task less efficiently.

      I just got a xd 1500 crew nortstar. Crazy price but only about 10k more then a can am HD defender limited with 4 doors. It is east to find 10k in up grades over the can am and the jd 835r . It is built much heavier starting g with the tires and throughout the machine. It is much faster than the gator and much sturdier than the can am. I have over 20k miles on two 835Rs and over 20k on a can am HD defender limited I like them all and worked them very hard. I have about 500 work miles on the xd 1500 in 2 weeks. The new xd is a big up grade. I can still go all the places that I can't go in a pickup with a 1000 pounds or more of mineral and salt. And I am sure glad to not be limited to 16mph when traveling the 20 miles of dirt road that seperates our places
      I am 6 foot 6. The xd has better head and leg room them my f350 and way better then the other utvs. I would not want try for three, but two guys my size can easily fit in the 2nd seat
      I spend a lot more hours in the side by sides than I do in my pickup. I would have laughed at it 30 or 40 years ago but now that I am 60+ I am really enjoying the warm quiet comfortable cab.
      I think the fellow who made this video should better understand that we all have different circumstances. Neither a tool cat (we have skid steers) nor a Tacoma (we have one ton pickups) would fit what I need but the xd 1500 is doing great so far.
      Also I will not likely pull a grain bin or a bumper pull horse trailer with it. However, I will use it two tow two 1500 pound square bales to places a pickup can't access and in 25% of the time it would take in a tractor. Finally, I move cows all the time and can do by self with two cowboys what would require three guys on horse back.
      I think a small farm on the east coast sounds great. And, I am sure that my experience ranching in the west does not qualify me to state with certainty what an east coast farm needs. From watching the video it is clear visa versa is also true. The xd probably makes no sense there but here it does.
      So far I am very impressed with the xd 1500. I hate the price of it and all the other full cab utvs. However, I think all the up grades in the xd 1500 explains the higher relative price. At any rate I am going to spend the next few years working the heck out of it in about every way one can imagine and I look forward to doing that in a quiet comfortable cab

      Yep. Wouldn’t be bashing it if it was reasonably priced. I think it is a cool machine. But I also believe there are better ways to spend the same money.

    I agree that the price is insane,
    but I thought you were going to offer some comparable side by sides to compare to, not tell me to buy a pickup. I already have a pickup. You sound disgruntled. Just sayin.

    50k buggy. I'd buy a crew cab s10 soild axle swap it, tires eletric lockers. Do a coil over fornt. Coil and leaf in the rear. And even if you bought brand new dana 44's i think all said and done your looking at maybe 20-25k unless you buy a super low mile super clean truck

    Are you comparing this to a unit with HVAC ? That is a strong consideration for older active individuals . So what is my alternative ? You rightly state a pick up truck is a great alternative - except on narrower trails and wether you have six passengers . You clearly have an issue with wealthy peoples toys - I take it you have an issue with Ferraris too. Those bobcats and kubota uv’s consume huge amounts to of fuel compared to the Polaris which sips fuel and goes fast - ever need to get from one end of the property to other end fast ? . If your properties require road travel to and from that excludes the slower vehicles . And there architecture is almost 20 years old . A tool cat vs a excavator and skid steer - you ain’t a farmer or rancher if you don’t have one of those already .

    A Chevy Impala is $30,000 and a Lambo is $334,000. There isn't another SXS on the market with the fit finish and quality of the new Ranger XD. I looked at a couple last Friday, nicest unit I've ever seen, kinda pricey, but they'll sell like crazy. People aren't having any issues spending $$$ right now, that's why the shit is priced the way it is. You need to find the right dealer and prices will be much lower than list 😉.

    • @ChoresOnTheFarmChannel
      @ChoresOnTheFarmChannel  6 місяців тому

      Prices USED to be lower to list, and might be coming back down. Powersports have always been a lot closer to MSRP than Automobiles. Also, a Lambo and Malibu have entirely different use cases. Unless you wanna argue "Not-uh, they are both to get from point a to point b." The Polaris is claiming to do Side by Side things better than other side by sides. It is not going to do them twice as better for twice the money. It just isn't.

    I was never a tool cat guy, but I went to my Polaris dealer and saw what they wanted for an XD1500. Can I afford it? Yes. And have I spent stupid money on stuff before? Hell yes, I have. But this, even for me, is IDIOTIC. All it did was push me towards a Tool Cat which I thought were too expensive, but look like a bargain now.. I have a L6060 Kubota loaded up and a 2018 Ranger 1000 XP loaded to the gills now. Thought I'd upgrade the Ranger this year like I've done for the last 3 I bought. NOPE, not this round Polaris!

  • @Synic08

    Your getting to the price where you could buy like a rzr and a mule… those two will do everything the XD does…better, and cost less…
    After riding around a hisun china machine awhile, they arent junk… like, in 2008 if they were releasing the 2020 model, the ranger is in trouble… that being said… the ranger hasnt came THAT FAR since then, and the cheap models are catching up… no way does the cost add up for what you recieve…
    China brands are going to have full “northstar” type models for 16k in 3 years… mark my word.. (plus inflation i guess.. LOL)

    There’s a ass for every seat. At the end of the day people over pay for there toys or hobbies. Look at the price of a bass boat! If i had a ranch and wanted the best latest and greatest machine I would buy it! I myself have a camp just for riding ATVs and own a Kawasaki KRX 1000 and love it! I have over 30k in it with accessories. Always remember this, there is nothing that will compare to a SXS as far as capability, ride quality, fun factor, for what they are intended. People often say Incould buy a jeep for that price! Yeah buy it, but it can’t follow or compare to my KRX, sorry. But yeah I get it man, they are very expensive!

    • @ChoresOnTheFarmChannel
      @ChoresOnTheFarmChannel  8 місяців тому +1

      Get your point.. and agree. I own a (much cheaper) side-by-side that I love! My question is... what can the XD do that your KRX can't? If you come up with a good answer or two... then ask yourself if the XD could do it two times better. Buyers are essentially paying twice what you have in that Kawa.

      I couldn't have said it better myself. I paid $6,500 for a 99 Silverado 4x4 about 8 years ago. Might be worth $3,500 bucks now. Amazing farm truck. Does 95% of what a 60k golfcart will do... a lot of those tasks it does better!
