  • Finally, an unfrozen water fishing video. I will miss ice fishing in about 3 or so months, but now it's time to focus on the best time of the year - Open water fishing. My friend and I headed to Alocva Lake's Fremont Canyon in search of anything that will bite.
Overall it was an awesome day filled with aggressive big trout. The water temperature was a little chilly at about 40 degrees F, but it's definitely time to get out and test the water.

It was really fun, but pretty cold still. Early season trout are so colorful.

Great video. Wandering what wheels you're using on your kayak kart. I see kayak karts at Amazon, but only 150 lb capacity. I need something more durable, right?

I've been using the C-Tug wheel sets. They work OK, but are 100% plastic and are super squeaky and smaller diameter. The motorized kayaks that I have are about 240 lbs the way they are loaded when they are on the wheels. The small diameter of the wheel makes it challenging to get past some medium sized rock obstacles. The wheels are wider, which helps move accross softer soil or very small loose rocks. What time of year is Alcova low like this where you can fish those rock pools and it's clear, looks so awesome, tight lines

In a typical year, mid April to early May. However, this year has not been typical. We've had a very cold winter with lots of snow. The lake was still partially iced over when they were filling it up. So mid April wasn't a possibility. Also the lake is full right now. We may also have enough water to spill over at Pathfinder this year, which will cause the water in the canyon to get high early and cover that section of river that I was fishing. Not sure if or when that will happen.

What is your exact setup for your fishfinder?? Transducer? Is it mounted in hall? I have a Mokai, seems very confusing figuring out what transducer and fishfinder to use..any help would be appreciated.

My transducer is mounted on a Ram 18" Transducer Mount - 72023035, which I purchased from Amazon. It's mounted to a 1" RAM ball that is mounted just behind the seat on top of the left side cock-pit shoulder. This allows the transducer to be fully submerged and not have to try and work through the hull. You can see it on the following video if you pause it at about 11:30: ua-cam.com/video/Uatn7ZpfFC8/v-deo.html
On one Mokai I have a Garmin 94 SV wit the normal long transducer that came with it. On the other Mokai I have a Humingbird with what ever transducer came with it.
