    You just fixed my anxiety in performing a brake job in the rear end. My first attempt before this video was catastrophic. I spent more with getting my car towed to the dealer and paid almost $600 for everything. Thank you. HYBRID is a little special when it comes to brake maintenance.

    Just so you know, the AK on the pad stands for Akebono. You can get these directly from Akebono with the clips and shims included, or you can get them from a parts store if you find a deal. Also, you can just loosen the bottom caliper bolt and remove the top, and then it'll lean back enough to remove the pads, like a hinge.

      @@friendlymechanic9778 dealerships mark up the pads by like $20-$30, or in some cases they just charge extra for the clips/shims that normallycome with the pads. I like and buy OEM parts but these car makers get their parts from public parts manufacturers. No need to pay a middleman(dealership) when you can go to the same company that they buy from and buy the part yourself. Just research what company makes the part you need and then go to that company and buy it at cost.

    Hi. How do I measure the disc and what are the spects, also I though friction would cause some waving on surface and should get resurface when replacing pads?
    Good video 👍🏼

    • @friendlymechanic9778
      @friendlymechanic9778  8 місяців тому

      Hello I have a video on how I measure the rotors. The car in the video is a BMW but the process and tool used are the same. The rotors can get warped as you use the brake pads, But if you are not experiencing vibration while braking replacing the brake pads alone will be okay. It is not always necessary to resurface the rotors at every brake pad replacement.
      In this video ua-cam.com/video/Y0sLm-FE8wY/v-deo.htmlsi=t2X4eSolx8ixCyxO
      at time stamp 1:55 - 2:30 I go over the tool used and how to measure the rotors
      This is the paid affiliate link to the tool I used. amzn.to/3x9I3Iw
      As for the specs for the rear rotors there are two specs depending if you have electronic parking brake or don't have electronic parking brake.
      With electronic parking brake minimum specification will be 10.5 mm (0.414 in.)
      W/o electronic parking brake minimum specification will be 8.5 mm (0.335 in.)
      If you want to check if the rotor is warped, You will need to measure the rotor at 8 different spots on the rotor. divide it up like a pie with a marker and keep turning the rotor until you have 8 measurements. the difference between the highest and lowest can not be more than 0.15 mm (0.00591 in.)
      Let me know if you have any other questions.

    • @friendlymechanic9778
      @friendlymechanic9778  5 місяців тому +1

      That’s brake clean/parts clean spray. You can find it online or at an auto parts store.
      You don’t need to use this on new rotors to install them. I just use it to clean off loose brake pad dust or if i get some brake dust on the rotors I’ll spray it down to get it off.
