    My son Roger spent one summer teaching English in Kazakhstan, When he returned to college at the University of Arizona that fall, he decided he should learn to speak Russian. His years playing violin also came in handy when he started playing the Ukrainian 4-string domra in the Arizona Balalaika Orchestra. Both instruments are identically strung, tuned and fingered on the neck: The only differences are 1) that the violin is played with a bow while the domra strings are plucked with a pick, and 2) the violin is held between the player's chin and left shoulder while the domra rests in the player's lap.
    To play any musical instrument well, one must concentrate on developing the fine-motor skills of the hands and wrists. The real message behind the tongue-in-cheek, lost-in-translation title of Paul Gilbert's 2015 solo album, "Stone pushing uphill man," shouldn't be lost on the aspiring musician: Unless you relax your arms, elbows and shoulders, playing guitar will become a Sisyphean task and you will never develop great hand speed and accuracy.
    Just for fun, I'm including a link to Taborny Vetcher (Evening In A Gypsy Camp), which Roger originally composed for the Arizona Balalaika Orchestra and which won First Prize in the annual composition competition of the American Balalaika and Domra Association: /rogerforeman/music/song/evening-in-the-gypsy-camp-48853191-52535083

    I think that support by second finger should be also proper and it have to correspond with hand movement. Badly made support by second finger can’t help to avoid pain in nail area of index finger;)

    Anton, you say at the pick always must be inside the strings. But how can you change strings withou hitting unwanted strings when the pick is always inside? You have to get over the strings somehowe.

    • @AntonOparinENG
      @AntonOparinENG  5 років тому +3

      I explain that in my guitar academy only.

    Which is better when practising guitar sitting down? With the guitar on the left leg or right leg?

    • @AntonOparinENG
      @AntonOparinENG  7 місяців тому +2

      both have pros and cons. left leg is more healthy for the back, right leg is a bit more aesthetic and comfortable for the left hand

    By the way, Zakk Wylde tends to use forearm for fast picking.

    • @AntonOparinENG
      @AntonOparinENG  9 місяців тому +3

      And that causes his sync + touching unwanted strings problems

    • @const_g
      @const_g 9 місяців тому

      @@AntonOparinENG do you have an example of that maybe? I'm not saying that you're wrong, just curious

    • @AntonOparinENG
      @AntonOparinENG  9 місяців тому +3

      @@const_g Absolutely everywhere when he plays fast. Not his fault at all, just physics and physiology. For better understanding when something's clean or not you can cut the moments with fast playing from different guitarists that actually play a lot cleaner and those that don't. I mean close A/B comparison.

      Like everywhere. I wouldn't consider Zakk's technique as something seriously amazing, I'd better look at musicality in his case, cause almost all guitarists have something that we should learn from, in Zakk's case yeah maybe it's not technique, but people who work in his style of music of course should dig deeper and learn all musical elements that could make em better from analysing Zakk's playing. I think it's all about searching for the best for yourself from everyone around, even those who don't have technique AT ALL sometimes play licks and melodies that sound awesome
