I have a long standing love affair with Johannesburg and Hillbrow. I lived there from the mid 1960's, met and married my husband and had my first child there in the early 1970's. Then moved out to the suburbs. but still went often even when it became a no-go area. I worked on the 40th floor of the Carlton Centre in 2005, I managed a building in Hillbrow from 1997 and moved to offices in the building in 2007. I worked there until Mid 2009, just before I left SA to join my kids in UK. Thanks :)
Lovely memories, Great movie. If I may offer a small criticism, the wind sound could have been reduced and maybe covered with a voice-over giving names to the landmark buildings. I remembered most of them, and loved revisiting The Carlton Hotel and Centre, The Civic Centre and Theatre among others, with the wonderful ending in Gold Reef City. I am sure many people have memories with many buildings, but don't remember the names of all the buildings.
South africa looks like the US back then i am in complete shock to see such rich country turned into a giant squat . Especially hillbrow . If it was located where i live it could be the most expensive town in the country
I like the: If the relay din't work, we will use the ladder! :-D Once I went to Rustenberg platinum mines, where they use a cable way, bicycle style to transport people, when it went broken, we were forced to WALK out from about 300m depth on about 30° incline! I was about 35 y.o. then, but by reaching the ground, gasping for air as a carp out of the water use to do:-D

To any South Africans watching this, lets work and get the CBD back to this state. Starting by voting out the ANC.
Thank you for posting "Joburg Tour.mpg"
Its a shame now how beautiful Johannesburg was before 1994

I worked at Gold Reef City in 1986, worked for a plumbing company called Plumbsure, run by Ivan Blackstone.
Soooooooo clean.
Before the rot set in. Only the leadership of the noble Afrikaner can restore Johannesburg to it's former glory.

Would like to license some of this footage for a South African documentary. Please send me your contact information.

Where are the people?
Video was shot on a Sunday. In those days they were very traditionalist and Sunday was seen as a day of rest so most people stayed home
And now look at it today....
We lived in Berea now a shit hole
Ditto and indeed!
ANC must go back to school and study leadership n management skills
What can savages and natives learn?? They have been studying for 30 years and everything is useless
