Coming from a network pro, great presentation, clear & concise. Cheers.
Hey Cody, @4:55 - so my understanding is that the extender does not require new SSID's, and just repeats the existing SSIDs from the AP's it's extending (is part of an AP group like any other wired AP)?
Specifically, I'm considering this for my sunroom, and do not want additional SSIDs - I'd like the extender to just relay my existing ones from one of my AP's (whichever one gives it the best signal). I have 3 AP's in the house, and all of them are set to broadcast all the same SSID's (are all part of the same group). Would it be better to use this extender or get the Wifi 6 mesh AP?
I do have the option to wire up the Wifi 6 Coke Can AP, but with 3 AP's already, I don't want to step on channel toes since I'm already using 1, 6 and, 11 on 2.4 ghz for the other APs. I'm guessing the extender would be on the same channel as whichever AP it's talking to as apposed to the AP mesh which would broadcast it's own channel.
Good video Cody, what would be cool, is if they put a screw hole in the middle so you could screw it to the center of the receptacle so it doesn't get pulled out or removed.
Put Velcro on the wall plate and the back of the extender?
@@jfkastner That could work too!
American plugs lol
Would this help if outdoor camera is a little farther away from house and not very stable connection. I planned on plugging it in the plug on wall closest to camera.
Can I use this on a wireless network to extend existing wifi even if it is the only UNIFI device on the network or must I use it in conjunction with a Unifi AP pro?
Nice video, thank you! The ONLY reason I would use an extender is IF you are worried about lightning strikes (e.g. connect a barn) - and do not want to run a cable that could fry devices on both ends - I have seen folks use fiber for that exact reason
Thats not bad thinking. There is limitations though this can not be super far from an access point to work
Very good video; I just have one question regarding the "Meshing" switch. If you don't have any of these and you are using all wired AP's, should you turn off the "Meshing" option, or leave it enabled?
Hey,
I would turn off meshing if you are not using any wireless uplinking devices
@@MactelecomNetworksSo does that mean we’re compromising performance by enabling meshing?
Great video ! i wonder if using a Access Point WiFi 6 Mesh (coke can )would work better because you could mount it higher
It Just may. I sold mine a while back but ill see if I can get another one to do some test with
I want one of these for my upstairs bedroom as I finally got my U6-pro and LR mounted correctly however the WI-FI upstairs although acceptable -65db I'd like a little more speed out of it if this can provide.
This will help for sure in dead spots
I am interested in buying one of these, I have the Cloud Key Gen2 can I use this to add U6 Extender?
You would need another access point hard wired in for it to be able to do a wireless uplink
@@MactelecomNetworks You are awesome! That's why I like your channel.
Does anyone know why the U6-Extender will get the status {Isolated}? Thank you!
It's basically became disconnected from the AP, have you reset it?
For basically the same price, I would just mount any WiFi access point and run it with a POE injector...far more flexible. Would be a good comparison video.
Yup you can pretty well grab any AP. I think this looks cleaner though you dont have a PoE injector sitting on the floor or mounted to the wall
What if the home is build and it would be a royal PITA to run a cable.
Thanks.
Anytime thanks for watching :)
giving access to your home and space thru these things is out of control!
This is trash right out if the box worked for like 5 minutes, if you try to return 15% restocking fees that can show you that’s it’s a scam
