The FP1e is a revised version of the FP1 that has been available in most of Asia for a while. I imported a few. That one (FP1) does work with HA out if the box and it has a reset function to tell it when a room is empty. It also has settings for sensitivity and distance inside HA.
couldn't agree more. The lack of a swappable cord is a deal killer for these. What if the AC outlet is further away that can be supplied by the attached cord?
THANKS TO YOU PAUL... Whenever I hear the words 'Zigbee' or 'Home Assistant', in my mind there's ALWAYS the "OOOOOOH THE ZIGBEEE!!!" or "HOME ASSISTANT HOOMME ASSSISTANT HOOOOOMMMMME ASSSSSISTANNNT!!!" 🤣🤣🤣
I have the same reaction whenever I hear people saying that something just works. It's impossible not to immediately recall Paul saying "IT JUST WOOOOOOOOORKS"!
Great Video this week. Compare it now with Sonoff's SNZB-06P. Zigbee, detachable cable, under $20 and did I mention it's compatible with other Zigbee border routers and bridges? I used mine with ZHA and HomeAssistant, but best with Third Reality's Smart Bridge MZ1.
SNZB-06P is indeed a very good one, with detachable cable. A bit less range maybe compared to this, but has an ambient light sensor (bright/dark). The latest firmware (1.0.6) is great: no ghosting, fast response. Works as router as well.
I have the Sonoff sensor working in my kitchen, and it's incredibly fast with no issues. It costs less than $15 and includes a light sensor, I don’t see the point of getting Aqara unless you need the FP2 functionality
This is the only channel where I watch the clips with a big smile on my face AND learn things. BTW, it really upsets me he loves Zigbee these days. Dr Zzz , hookup and I loved that , Oh Zigbee clip A LOT 😂😂😂
You still make me smile, even just a split second video and the word “bland” great stuff Paul. Q.. is there a way to use multiple presence sensors on one room, without it being a routine nightmare, guessing the Alexa routines would be a no go, using a linknlink sensor but the area covered, just isn’t big enough …………..(that’s what she said)
Came here to say just this, and you can set it to trigger X minutes before or after sunset too. My aleza routine closes my blinds & turns on my living room lights 30 mins before sunset.
I think you forgot to take your breakfast bowl to the house, I noticed it on the floor at 4:25. I suppose it's easier to see those things on my new 50" TV. 😁
The thing I like about my PIR is it’s attachment into the small Alexa that’s plugs straight into a socket, simple to power and occupies a spare kitchen socket , this turns the lights on every time & has never missed a trick.
The FP1e: I'm really pleased to see this device in particular. I've got an FP2 running automations in my living room (turning on the TV when someone sits down at the couch, turning on desk lamps when people are sitting at the desk, and even one for motion in the living room when no one's at home.) It's a gem and I've been thinking about picking up another one but the price has been pushing it down on the "acquire" list. "should only trigger when there are humans in the room.": This is quite important, because we have cats and, as you might be aware, even some devices that advertise as "pet-friendly," can't always distinguish between a cat presenting it's butt and a human. There's probably a self-depreciating joke in there somewhere, but I'll leave that to your imagination (knowing full well it's probably already gone there.) "I have the high ground" with clown music: I'll confess, I've never thought of that, but now I see what I was missing. Music really does add so much to scenes (or, in this case, change the tone radically.) The comparison of FP2 and FP1e was really helpful. As usual, knowing what something can and can't do before I get it is a real boon for that planning thing that I rarely do anyway, but at least I could. Hardwiring: Agreed. I'd much prefer a cable that I can replace. ZigBee, but you might still need the Aqara hub: I'm kind of used to this really. There seem to be a lot of devices that you have to set up using the app/hub and then you can use without it. The FP2 is an example. Still, it would be nice to have a work-around. 50 quid: I'm still surprised that 50 quid translated through the manufacturer becomes $50 US, but it seems to be the case quite often. You're right, dropping that to $40 for a device that won't turn off the lights when you stop moving is worth it. I'm hitting that link right now. Thanks again for a great review on a product that I am picking up after I get done typing this. Well done. I'm excited to see what's next, even if it has a "It just works" gag with it.
Great video Paul as usual. Sorry if already asked, but how does the FP1e compare to the linknlink presence sensor you reviewed a While back? I have two and thinking if I should replace them? Cheers!
Nice video as always! You say you need an Aqara hub. In Amazon description they say you need an Aqara zigbee 3 hub. Can you please explain because I’ve got 2 Aqara 2 hubs but not a 3
I was really interested in this to turn on or off a light that an aging parent loves to leave on. But I would need it to only really do that routine at night. Nice to see you cover that and I think I might end up getting the FP2
You could program this to only work at night 😊 you can use time as a caveat, but I was also wrong in the video about sunset and sunrise, you CAN use those as the caveats too!
Two potential answers to your AI latency challenges: 1. HA 2024.12 brings some nice improvements to use LLMs combined with the inbuilt sentence parsing which should make the simple stuff much faster. 2. Instead of OpenAI, try the extended openai conversation integration that allows custom endpoints. With some fiddling around you can get it pointed at the Cerebras endpoint for absolutely insane performance with Llama 3.1 instead. That's what I've been messing around with and I'm starting to see some good results.
My favorite presence sensor right now is from Athom but it’s running ESPhome so it’s really opinionated in favor of Home Assistant. The Aqara is better looking but demerits for the cord design and need for a hub. I know this video isn’t about the FP2, but I do have some envy for that products ability to establish different zones in your room with presence automations for each. Like imagine you’ve got automations that run just by virtue of you being in the room, but others just because you’re sitting in a specific seat. Most presence sensors can’t do this. Kudos to the FP2 for that level of ambition.
Last time I got a device from Aqara based on your video was that cube that does routines based on moving the cube around. I could never get it setup with the stupid 2.4-GHz vs. 5-GHz connection with the router having both signals breaking the setup. I'm not complaining about failure, I'm sure I could have gotten a work around if I wasn't insanely lazy, my question is will that also happen with this device? I ALWAYS love your video, even if I don't care about the thing you are talking about.
Aye up Paul. I used your code to snaffle one of these for forty quid and promptly installed it inside the cabinet under the sink in the en-suite. Totally mind blown, as in full head explosion, that it works from inside a cabinet. Marvellous little thing and totally wife safe since she still has no idea it is there and what is controlling the lights. Cheers for the discount code.
These things are power hungry hence no battery and hard wired. HLK2410c and and esp32 if you want to build your own for a tenner, probably the easiest sensor you can add to home assistant, I have many retro fitted into my light switches.
Good morning and happy Sunday. I want to use a presence sensor but really don't want another hub. I get confused enough with Google Alex and switchbot. I have a routine set up that will turn my TV on when the front door is opened. The thing is I want it to only do that when I come home , so been out of the flat for a time. What would you suggest ?? Thanks
I wish my FP1E was as reliable as yours. It's in the bathroom to just control the lights and at least twice a day it continues to recognize presence after I've left the room. Unfortunately, no other way to reset it besides running the "Spatial AI Learning" which evidently has a learning disability... 🙄 Going to try a factory reset, but if that doesn't change things I may just return it in favor of the Everything Presence Lite I impulse bought after a lot of annoyance with the FP1E. I'm kinda limited on placement because of power outlets and the inability to use another USB cable. Any other ideas? Firmware up-to-date. Automations are running in HA through the Aqara M3 hub, but obviously it's a device problem and not the automation...
Morning Paul, enjoy the video however you are wrong with one thing you can do a routine within Alexa including sunset. Just stopped a routine in a usual way and then go to schedule and you can even set the routine for both sunrise and sunset and select time before and after sunset to activate the routine. Totally agree a Kara have made a mistake hardwiring the new sensor Just thought I’d mention it.
Do you know if it can work directly in Smartthings or does it require an Aqara hub to work in Smartthings? By the way time to bring back zigbee air humping too.
In my office you mean? The wall lights are a Govee product stacked one on top of the other and framed by my acoustic panels which just by complete luck happen to to be the exact right depth 😁
Your videos are the most corniest and yet super entertaining to watch at all times!🤓 So here is my bedroom challenge question! What rules, shortcuts or scenes would you create in addition to not automatically turn on your bedroom lights after you turned them off to go to bed as you may get out of bed to visit the loo to or move in your own bed, having in mind that you don’t go to bed to sleep at the same time ever time? I may add some new time guidelines in my Good night scene to stay in effect to override the motion sensor activation until the next sunrise, but what would you do? Thanks a million & keep up your artistic talents.✌🏻😃
LD2410 with ESP32 would do the same for fraction of price, innit? Well, maybe it's worth for Aqara ecosystem users, but even non-DIY option like EPLite or Screek sensor would do the same...
What happens if you have a routine to turn on the lights & TV in the sitting room, you go in, lights come on, TV comes on, and you then decide you want to watch TV with the lights off. You use your face hole to tell Alexa to turn off the lights, will the FP1E then start fighting with you to control whether the lights are on or off? Also - do you have an affiliate link to the FP2?
While the FP2 also works with Home Assistant through the Homekit Bridge, it only exposes the light sensor and the zone binary sensors. You can't do the AI learning thing in Home Assistant with the FP2 either, so unless, like you said, someone develops a ZHA or Z2M 'driver' for it, I think we'll be stuck with using the Aqara app for most of the settings. Personally, I can live with that.
Someone will get it working using Z2M, it will just be a while. The FP1 works with zones but I think it was added way after its release. Below is from the Z2M site. It's just a matter of waiting 6+ months or more probably. I doubt it will ever work with ZHA though. Device allows to add up to 10 detection regions, each composed of any number of zones in a 4x7 detection grid, visualized below:
Confused face: are you saying that to make this think work I've got to buy an Aqara Zigbee hub and that it won't work with my existing Zigbee network driven by three full-sized Echo devices with built-in Zigee that are scattered around the house controlling other devices?
Why buy this when you can get the Everything Presence Lite at £28, which can do 4 zones, track 3 targets and has a light sensor, and works with Home Assistant ? Any reason thanks.
If you're already running HA then no, but those features you mentioned that come with it may not be for everyone if they need longer range. I imagine the 5-8 meters that the HLK mmwave sensor that's shipped by default is good enough for 95 percent of people but the DFRobot one in the original did 25 meters, which is overkill for most and doesn't support zones, which is why I quit using the espresense one. Zones are a must for these to be useful . The good thing is it supports 5 different mmwave sensors so you have options. The downside is finding one as they are always sold out. It's also 38 now (US) as they switched to injection molding plastic for the case instead of 3D printing them. They did get the FP1 to work in zigbee2mqtt with support for 10 zones, so pretty sure they will with this, it will just take time (like 6 months plus probably). Buying the FP2 is still the better option if you had to use aqara though.
Aww its Saturday and another great video, hope you and family are well. Wow £50 is still a lot, I've gone for the Everything Presence Lite at a bargain £28, which can do 4 zones, track 3 targets and has a light sensor, oh and works in Home Assistant :) It is however tricky to configure, some more detailed documentation would help there (Lewis). Have a great weekend
I wish they could have made this battery operated given they put it on Zigbee instead of WiFi. A lot of my PIR style motion sensors are in positions where it would look kind of ugly with a cable running down the wall. I love the idea of these millimeter wave devices, but just would be nice if they could do a battery operated version.
Built an mmwave sensor using DFRobot mmwave sensor, it lasted half a day on a 2000Mah battery. These are just too power hungry, or they would need a huge battery to last more than a day or two. I wouldn't have high hopes for a battery powered one regardless of its Zigbee or WiFi. Maybe if it needed to only be on an hour or two a day, then you could use the RTC of an ESP32 to turn it on and off at specific times.
This video was a bit weird, because it was basically the reverse of all the FP2 reviews that were comparing it to the original FP1. What I still don't know after watching this, is what changed in the FP1E from the FP1?
Meh... Ive got mmwave sensors that i paid £14 and it has ZigBee as well as the illumination sensor. Works with home assistant and with Alexa/tuya/Google home.
Normally i upvote for all that i learn, and i will certainly purchase an FP1e, however today's upvote will be 99.999% credit to Paul's Movie Cameo.... that was effin fantastic.
Damn you Hibbert. I finally finished sorting out camping gear while watching your videos and really should have gone to bed but I wanted to see the end of this one
I have a Alexa echo dot 4 with zigbee hub, but what really annoyes me, is that I cannot just by any zigbee push button and control lights that are attached to Alexa. What is that all about? It sees the button as a switch and makes it useless to control a lamp with. Cant be to difficult to fix that.
Why do people worry about 'clogging up' their wifi with sensors, most of which send a few packets every now and again, but they'll happily use a wifi camera which is constantly streaming? Darth Vader's voice cracks me up everytime. 😂
Is it PIR or mmwave? Mmwave can detect a human heartbeat and extremely small movements like breathing (60Gh one can read a person's heartbeat). PIR sensors are faster but mmwave (with zones) is way better. I bought one of the first ones without zones and they are almost worthless as they will detect any moving object like fans, even minor motion. An mmwave sensor is perfect for detecting someone being lazy in a couch, a PIR sensor will trigger something but won't detect continuous small movements. It's pretty crazy how accurate the FO2 app is at mapping rooms and telling where people are, and telling it to ignore areas like ceiling fans, ect.....
@@JoshFisher567 it’s a presence sensor (SNZB-06P) based on 5.8GHz microwave radar, it detects movement or stationary person, and it has a built-in light detector.
Only problem is you HAVE to have an Aqara HUB at ADDED cost with either sensor and I have too many hubs already and do NOT want another one to make room for, maintain, power, and all that. It becomes TOO costly when I can buy a simple PIR sensor for $18 USA and it turns my lights on and actually pair it to Alexa to do basic routines which is all I really need. I have a Link-N-Link radar/temp/IR hub and get MANY false triggers from it and is disappointing to say the least.
A PIR will turn your lights on, but either not turn them off, or turn them off whenever you stop moving. Neither is acceptable to me personally. As I said in the video, I agree it’s a shame you need an aqara hub, but they do a camera that is a Zigbee hub, so you could combine those two things and have a security camera AND a hub in one
@@paulhibbert ; Thanks Paul! How is the F model at sensing mirco-movents and how often does it false trigger As I mentioned Link-N-Link 3-in-one sensor with radar constantly triggers with NO movement! It does however react fast when entering my kitchen.
@@johnszatkowski6898 it’s not looking for movements, it stays on if there is a body in the room and goes off if there isn’t. That said there is an AI mode that is doing other checks as the radar can be confused by mirrors and stuff so it may also be watching for movement to determine if an object is human. Difficult to comment on the BroadLink sensor as my experience had been good (at least in close quarters) I think a lot of people had issues with it due to its relatively short range.

I would still choose the FP2. Best of all would be an FP2 but in a Zigbee version if you ask me.
I love the tech, the 20€ more for the FP2 seems legit… still tough if you put one in every room 😅
Oh Paul...... I'm so sorry you haven't got any help yet ....keep up the good work 😝
Will the IA functionality work with home assistant or it just on the aqara app
Wonder why it's not using thread
LD2410 with ESP32 would do the same for fraction of price, innit?
Well, maybe it's worth for Aqara ecosystem users, but even non-DIY option like EPLite or Screek sensor would do the same...
Morning Sir.... Happy Saturday!
Hardwired is annoying. I want to put some of these in the hallway and landing. The top corners are ideal but hiding the wiring puts me off.
Do u have a discount code for the fp2?
Paul it's millimetre wave not 'MM' Refers to the magnitude of the wavelength used.
Confused face: are you saying that to make this think work I've got to buy an Aqara Zigbee hub and that it won't work with my existing Zigbee network driven by three full-sized Echo devices with built-in Zigee that are scattered around the house controlling other devices?
@4.21 why is there a breakfast bowl (with spoon) on the floor, by the door??
Is it not just software that is different??? I bet that this unit can do zoning too but aqara is not allowing it to zone...
I don’t know the answer to this but I imagine it’s processing power on the device
@@paulhibbert that is true there could be more inside... We need an autopsy....
@@SolarizeYourLife I like it too much to dismantle it 🤣
Absolutely awesome
Aww its Saturday and another great video, hope you and family are well. Wow £50 is still a lot, I've gone for the Everything Presence Lite at a bargain £28, which can do 4 zones, track 3 targets and has a light sensor, oh and works in Home Assistant :) It is however tricky to configure, some more detailed documentation would help there (Lewis). Have a great weekend
sigh. maybe they'll add thread/matter and we can forgo another bloody hub... Thanks for the review! I was almost considering one of these...
Yeah, I thought this too. Would be great to have the option
Maybe if it needed to only be on an hour or two a day, then you could use the RTC of an ESP32 to turn it on and off at specific times.
it just works - best joke ever, i use it all the time, and it still makes me laugh
Awesome. Simply, awesome. U da man!
This video was a bit weird, because it was basically the reverse of all the FP2 reviews that were comparing it to the original FP1. What I still don't know after watching this, is what changed in the FP1E from the FP1?
door sensors would be a good concept, if they want to expand.
Can't be shipped to UK ??
Sorry mate, my fault, try the new link now I’ve updated it
Meh... Ive got mmwave sensors that i paid £14 and it has ZigBee as well as the illumination sensor. Works with home assistant and with Alexa/tuya/Google home.
will this work with my E1 hub?
As far as I know!
Good ol' Kwik save!
Vaders mum, still laughing…watched it back three times now…
I love how you can tell he’s fuming even through his mask 🤣
Normally i upvote for all that i learn, and i will certainly purchase an FP1e, however today's upvote will be 99.999% credit to Paul's Movie Cameo.... that was effin fantastic.
My favourite part of making these videos ❤️
Struggling to get the uk Amazon link to work 🤔
Sorry mate, my fault, try the new link now I’ve updated it
@@paulhibbertthanks Paul. It’s still not showing the discount though.
@@justinlawson5317 no luck using the new link ☹
@paulhibbert also cant get to work with discount! @paulhibbert please help!
Good video thank you for you work
Unfortunately I could never get the FP2 to work reliably.
Bum code don’t work Paul
Free video thank you for you work Good Morning
Why do people worry about 'clogging up' their wifi with sensors, most of which send a few packets every now and again, but they'll happily use a wifi camera which is constantly streaming?
Darth Vader's voice cracks me up everytime. 😂
The Sonoff presence sensor costs less than $15 and includes a light sensor. I have it working in my kitchen, and it's incredibly fast with no issues.
@@paulhibbert ; Thanks for your insight Paul!
With that 'decor' can we not have some sort of a Star Trek themed episode? Where is your uniform? You would love dressing up as Uhura and a Klingon and the guy that you know is going to get it when they beam down to a strange planet.
Is it me or could you have done all that with a PIR? Cheap PIR that uses a battery
PIR misses that you’re still there all the time and switches the lights off because you’re still
No luck using the new link
@@paulhibbert do you keep still. LOL. Should of thought of that, especially as I have the Aqara presence sensor you convinced me to buy in my study but I use that for zones
