- Опубліковано 30 тра 2015
- This week Jamie turned 40 and as a birthday treat we’ve unearthed this little gem for him and you, to enjoy. Back in 2005, Jamie travelled across Italy to celebrate turning 30 and here he stops off in the Amalfi hills to cook a simple sausage risotto recipe. This never before seen footage shows a younger Jamie in a chance encounter that led to this being his favourite memory of the entire trip.

When I first watched this video, it was only just a few months old. Now, it's been years, but I keep coming back to this particular episode. Not because of the recipe, but the heartfelt passion to share, the act of kindness and hospitality. Cooking is one thing, the food is another, but the intention and the act making someone (especially a complete stranger) happy by simply offering them food elevates everything in this video. Kindness knows no race nor language, and food is one of the best ways to share it.
Relatively, we need more kindness like this, especially now that we are facing a global crisis.
Calm down buddy. It’s just a Jamie olive oil recipe video.
my eyes got reallllly teary looking at you and the man just sitting on each stone eating risotto, beautiful moment.
How much did Jamie Olive Oil pay you for this comment
I got emotional all over again 😅😊 Thank you for the comment, and God bless you!
@@ccovergirlwow ...you tear up easily
I truly believe the recipes aren't that important. Keys to a great dish can't be bought : conviction, passion, hospitality those are the ones we should all aim for :) Big love big J
Also, having Pizza hut on speed dial
Awesome video!
He said recipes aren't THAT important ;)
***** not to mention that when you're really hungry even the simplest of dishes can taste like glory
***** Sometimes the best ingredients are the people and the unexpected.
Unbelievably heart-warming, both the food and the simple gesture of sharing. That made me so happy.
I teared up! Humanity does a lot of crappy things, but that exchange you had with that man is what it's all about. What makes life so great.
thatonefreckledgirl One good meal can make the difference between a normal day and a great day. I feel like they both walked away with the latter.
thatonefreckledgirl My faith in humanity was also restored. All it took was a guy sharing rice with someone...
For realz tho dis earf is fukked.
Rebekah Finley It wasnt like the guy was homeless....he was a farmer and it was obviously set up, despite what Oliver says.
jreynolds21 I don't think it was set up. Jamie seems like a trustworthy dude and if he bets something on his moms life, I'll take his word.
I agree. I think the last commenter may have been a troll looking for a rise.
Most of that grated parmesan cheese was blown away by the wind lol
😆
He’d probably call it on the menu “topped with windswept Parmesan”
One of my favorites wos
Thats so great :) u made the old man happy
Nothing like cooking in the great outdoors over a roaring fire; especially on a hill top in Italy. What a dream
03:33 onward really hits you in the feels for some reason .. you think its about the food but its just so much more !!
Sharing food is so basic and so communal. And Jamie's risotto goes directly to the soul. Good eats.
The scene where he feeds the sheperd is absolutely awe-inspiring. One of the best scenes in his entire cooking career on TV.
Sharing your food? how very Italian of you :)
simpatico :)
JOEY DOESN"T SHARE FOOD!
Swallow Forge sii simpatico bello!
I think the end of this vid showed the true meaning of food. It's not just nourishment, I mean if that's all we needed food would just be basic proteins with no flavor. Food is meant to be shared with others, even if you just met them.
Soylent green is people!!
Right on brother
I’ve never seen this vid before and I’ve been watching Jamie for 20 years!
This is quite possibly one of the best most real onscreen moments ever. You can’t buy that sort of moment.
Thank you Jamie Oliver
so cool, this looks like a dream!
I never cooked for a stranger, but I bought food a couple of times for strangers or homeless people. I always got a positive reaction from them. I know it maybe sound selfish, but it always left me with a good feeling, for the rest of the day.
All people should be nice to each other, we could make a peaceful world of this place here.
I cried when the sheep herder walked away. That was beautiful. That is what life is all about. Love to our fellow man. Simple as that.
Still one of my favourite videos of Jamie Oliver.
Wow Jamie, kudos to you, not only for opening your kitchen(s) to us, but for shairing your meal with a simple hurder. This speaks volumes about you as an individual. Happy late birthday, and may you have many more to come!
Jamie you are soooo kind. Such an inspiration for all of us for years and years. Please keep going. Best chef with the most beautiful heart. Germany loves you !
Jamie taught me that sharing the food brings the most out of your work...the joy of sharing the food with someone is priceless
What a rewarding watch.
this is my fave Jamie moment of all time.
In his youth, absolutely swimming in his passion, eating life with a ladle and sharing it with whomever he encounters.
I remember the photo of this from the book. Really cool to actually see it on video, with the sunset in the background!
***** Take another one! And bring Gennaro along.
Just found this video. I subscribed because you fed this man. We backpack and dive all the time and feed random people on the trail or on small islands all the time. It's done out of love and fellowship. Such a warm feeling. God bless you.
What a beautiful video. The risotto looked lovely but the gesture of sharing it with another human being for no reason other than kindness was so heartwarming
That was truly amazing. The food, the hospitality, and the place. I was touched.
Really nice gesture feeding that fella. He must have been a little confused at first but undoubtedly made up afterwards. great as always jamie
This has brought tears to my eyes, but tears of joy...Love Jamie, definitely someone to look up to
Since the upload of this video I always come back every year for little taste of authentic humanity. We need it now more than ever.
This is genuinely one of the nicer things I've ever watched. That moment with that sheep herder was just so peaceful and nice :)
Scenery, food, music and people. Gorgeous.
When i see a video like this it makes me think that we can be hopeful of a better world... thanks God for the food, for the kitchen and for Jamie
That was a beautiful moment. 2 human beings.. no knowledge of each other brought together by food.. that’s incredible.
Now this was "optima". Gotta love little moments of genuine humanity. Best enjoyed over lovely comestibles.
I don't even like with risotto but this is one of my favourite videos on YT, purely for Jamie showing kindness to a stranger (For anyone curious why I watch the video in the first place if I don't like risotto, it's because my family members all DO enjoy risotto and I wanted to make it for them, but I haven't gotten round to it yet)
I love risotto. At school I went on a field trip to a physics lab then had a lesson on cooking risotto at an Italian restaurant. I was just thinking I hadn't risotto in ages.
Thank you, Jamie.. That video fell into my soul - great recipe, great chef, around sweet man, beautiful place, beautiful music.. OMG, this video made my day..
The randomness made me cry Jamie - sharing a labor of love the best!
Don't normally leave comments but what a joyous thing to watch! Food for me about looking after those around you. What a kind thing to do Jamie, that chap will never forget that moment either.
this is one of my favourite videos on food.outside cooking, simple and sharing .I just love it
Omg I actually remember watching Jamie's Italy! Remember the episode where you learnt how to make the perfect risotto in Venice and later showed us 4 ways to do it? That was the first time I ever tried making risotto (I am from India by the way) and ever since it has become such a staple in our house! The mushroom risotto in Jamie at home is the best loved. You may not know this but your food is such an inspiration to us here in India and we in our family have such love for salad only because of you. Thank you so much for the great impact you are having on our lives.
Love you always Jamie! You are the best!
I love these Great Escape videos.....please continue to resurrect these gems!
it makes me so happy to see that Jamie is always cooking to share with someone else, like that sir, or even us. It's just comfortable :)
This video was amazing, not just about the food but the big heart you have. That's why you're the best. Love from Brazil.
I've always loved Jamie but this video has taken it to a new level, absolutely amazing
This kind of random acts of kindness! Only inspires myself and others. You have been such a great role model to me over the years. Not only as a culinary student but to help others in many ways! Your outlook on life is amazing. Also how you cherise mother nature and what she provides us everyday! Congratulations on your success as chef and mentor to many people an most of all a family man!
Thanks Jamie Oliver!
Sincerely,
Rolando Jacquez
So inspiring.. thank you Jamie...
Great job Jamie! We need more Peeps like you I these troubled times. God Bless!
Happy Birthday Jamie!
Such a beautiful video and moment of humanity.
has it already been 10 years?? getting nostalgic about my teen years watching that series, and these un-aired clips from that time are incredible
You feeding that man was the most wonderful thing I have ever seen you do! Bravo Jamie!!!
Cooking food is all about sharing.....and this video is the PERFECT example.
That was so nice of you!!! Love you Jamie!!!!
Reminds me of my memories, thank you so so much Jamie. This is my favorite video on UA-cam forever
What a beautiful moment. so genuine.
Love how everything is so natural and settle. Would love to see more videos like this. I'm going to try making this myself; seems simple enough!
I love that calm..real Italian vibe
This Place looks incredible... Wow
This made my day. There's something really special about this video. I love it.
This is one of the best videos I have ever seen. Jamie Oliver understands the meaning of life
Wonderful video Jamie. Thanks for bringing people together with your fresh and people-centered approach to food and life. You changed my life by getting me into cooking as a young person and helping me discover that it's my life's passion!
Oh, wow! I loved it! Two strangers, just enjoying perfect food. Such a nice moment.
Cooking and eating in a beautiful view.... how wonderful
I love it....simple,healthy and looks delicious....
This video is so comforting for some reason. ❤️
The landscape is amazing
Optimo.
Happy birthday, Jamie!
so sweet of Jamie to feed that old man. 😃 such a nice heartwarming gesture.
This made me cry, what an inspiration you are Mr. Jamie Oliver 💚
i love it, just adventuring new places, new people, new memories 💛
Happy Birthday, Jamie! This video strikes me on two levels. I love that you were able to share your food with a complete stranger. I believe that cooking for others shows love. It was very touching to watch this. Also, bonus, my family is from Amalfi and I have been so drawn to the area my whole life (even before I knew about my roots). It is as if it calls to my blood. I feel like it is the most beautiful place on earth. I hope to go there one day. Thank you!
Know to share is a gift. I know in the end you'll feel better and proud to yourself. Congrats for the food, and for share it!
What a moment. Enjoying the pleasure of food with others is exactly why we cook.
Quite possibly the most wholesome cooking video of all time.
Jamie, you have and always will be my absolute inspiration, as a kid I started watching you when I was 8 years old when they'd play your show on Tv and I've wanted to be a chef ever since. Unfortunately that's a career I'm unable to get into, but cooking at home I take inspiration from the way you see food and view how amazing the idea of it can be to people. I was once asked from the starlight foundation if I was interested in making a wish, and without hesitation or a second thought I told them that if I could meet you and watch you cook one of your favourite dishes (preferably a long dish just to enjoy more time with you) that that's what I would've wished for. Thankyou for making me love cooking.
one of the best vids on the internet
Jamie you arethe best.... so inspiring
jamie i loved when u shared the food that u made with a random person i wish the rest of the world could do that for each other
OH BOY THESE ARE THE BEST LIGHTING CONDITIONS FOR FILMING I'VE EVER SEEN
Love how humble jamie is
This is the best way to make risotto.
Best technique by boiling the ingredian as stock.
The onion taste so sweet and no salt need to added.
Excellent!! Everyone should try
This video is everything.
I don't know how but i think this video is the meaning of life.
I loved being in front of the TV watching this series, a great trip, unforgettable moments, wonderful recipes and a big surprise that Jamie did not expect the meeting with the monks, he had to teach their revenues rather than learning. Great memories many friends, thanks ***** for recall.
I'm a good cook, but have learned so many little cooking gems from Jamie. Thank you
Best thing I saw. Awesome recipe, awesome chance to share something nice. Well done Jamie.
These outdoor cookings are so nice and enjoyable to watch.
That was so.. Nice.
This video always brings good tears to my eyes
I have done this a bunch of times with grilling, BBQ, and sometimes just general picnicery. It is great to offer food, have someone genuinely enjoy it, and receive their compliments. I always try to repeat the favor when people offer me a meal. Not too long ago I was offered some outstanding Mexican food in a public park in the suburbs of Chicago. It was seriously one of the best meals I have ever had, and I do not speak a word of Spanish and they did not speak English, but I was profusely appreciative because the meal was so awesome (roast pork with tortillas, roast beans, some enchilada-type thing, all with salsas and tortillas). I love community experiences such as this.
Jamie is great to watch. Such great videos
Idk why but this video is just so comforting
man this video is awesome its incredible how the food can bring 2 strangers and share a good moment and food
Santa is getting something GOOD for Jamie this Christmas.
What a place to cook and eat.
Wow thats just magical...
it's really nice to share food with others..
I love his cook book Jamie's Italy and this video speaks to the essence of the book. Great video!
