Hey Johnny. I know you said in your last video this is probably your fair well tour. Before you go, I think it’s time for me to say thank you.
I’ve been watching your videos quietly for quite some time now. My buddy and I have been talking about doing this stuff for a while and we’ve been building our weapons for the presidents 100 tab.
This channel is a wealth of knowledge and you have been amazing at presenting the information in ways that we all can understand and getting into the hobby.
I hope you enjoy your ventures and thank you for this, really a gift to the community.
I’ll keep watching as you keep posting.

I cannot speak for other people, but I can confidently say that you had and still have a very positive influence on a large majority of us. It saddens me to think that your videos won't be part of our internet lives anymore. You brought us so much more than you can imagine. I recall the 5k subs celebration and Tactical Johnny. I recall where I was when you announced that you were taking a year off of work to do more videos. "A long, long time ago, I can still remember how that reloading used to make me smile. And I knew if I had my chance, that I could make those people glance and maybe they'd be happy for a while..."

When you started the 6.5 compass videos, i went and bought the same gun and followed along with you to learn how to reload. At this point, i've loaded countless rounds and various cartridges for myself and hunting buddies over the years. Like you, i've moved on to other guns, and other projects, but i've passed the gun on to my dad who recently killed a nice buck with it.
Thank you for the hours of entertainment and education. I hope you stay motivated to keep sharing your reloading projects!

I'll bet the kid remembers it for the rest of his life :)
I had a friend who was not only one of the first 4 "Apple" guys, but prior to that had been a for real Nuclear Physicist. Woz and Jobs had even given him one of the first 'wooden' Apple comps built in that garage all those years ago:). Anyway, before he passed away, he called me from half the country away, to tell me to come up and see him as he had something to give me. When I arrived, I instantly realized why he had moved from his California urban environment, to one of the most remote, unspoiled, and incredibly beautiful area's of the country I've ever seen, and THAT is saying something:) He'd built his house a bit up from the river (which formed the far end of his 'front yard) and which was never fished, hunted, or despoiled in anyway, by anyone I ever saw or heard of. Anyway, what he had for me was a huge sealed jar full of freshly hand loaded 6mm Remington rounds, along with probably 2 cubic feet of cases-ready for loading. He had asked me some years previously what my favorite caliber was and I had told him 6mm Rem. Turns out he also had been a huge fan of the "physics" of the 6mm Rem pretty much since it came out and he had commissioned a custom rifle from an esteemed Euro mfg in that caliber, and had directed that it be chambered to his own specifications. When he gave me the rounds, he gave me a small booklet detailing the dimensions, components, powder and projectile he had used, as well as a sheet detailing the chambering specs needed for the modification of my own rifle "to fire them efficiently"; with which directions, I complied. He also advised not to try to reload the rounds more than twice if I chose to go that route.
In the end, Was it worth it? well :) I have to conscientiously keep the action cleaned and lubed but weather permitting, when I get 'serious' with my own shooting technique, it will not only 'one hole' a group of three at 212 yards (I'm a 'cold bore' guy so 5 round groups are irrelevant to me as the barrel begins to heat up noticeably at the 4th round: the '212' is the zero of my personal 'mid-trajectory' 6mm rifle targets. Further, the rounds he loaded with me in mind, not only fly remarkably true, but pack a hell of a terminal 'punch' down range (for a six anyways :) The only other modification I've made to my rifle, was the fitting of a Browning-like 'adjustable compensator' which has proved quite effective in dialing in the harmonics of my barrel with not only his ammo, but the far smaller and differently configured varmint projectile rounds I occasionally employ. As to his rifle vs mine? Well with his custom fitted stock, extended barrel length and slightly larger magazine, his rifle did throw at a slightly higher velocity. On the other hand, I'm a better shot than he was LOL.
In any event, I stayed with him for some weeks reminiscing about our lives, adventures and interactions over the years, until his health took a dramatic turn for the worse. Informing me that he did NOT want me to see him die, we shook hands one last time, and then he sent me away.
It's now been many years since then, still, having on several occasions since, exceeded my own 'expiration date' (through the timely heroic interventions of several fine teams of surgeons, in addition to some pure 'dumb luck' :) my genetics seem to be favorably responding to their combined efforts and it now appears that I just might last long enough to get to see if my country (and the world for that matter) get their heads out of their collective azzes and straighten up.
P.S.- sorry for the lengthy post, but old men do tend to 'go off' sometimes ;)

I'm a young man and I can promise you we will have our homeland again. Don't fret, it's our challenge now and young men aren't buying what is trying to be sold to them. That's a problem for my generation and my sons.
Anyways, thank you for the story. I grew up around the PNW tech scene and there's a lot of those early tech autists who have a hilariously beautiful passion for ballistics. I knew one that we debated if you could build a bike out of just bamboo. I went to his house to get some brewing supplies and in the corner is saw a bike made out of just bamboo. I asked why he never told any of us because it really was impressive work. He simply said "I proved my point. Why would I need to tell everybody?"

I sold a lot of guns over the years. Never once regretted selling any of the guns I've sold.
I just get better at judging if a gun I want is actually useful to me or if I'm just infatuated with it. Last thing I need is a bunch of useless trash being nothing but a dust collector.

Just got back from the deer lease tonight --took my first whitetail with my 6.5 Creedmoor TC Compass, although with a lackluster factory load. I discovered Shannon and the Compass at the same time. This weekend's hunt convinced me that I need to work up a Creedmoor load following Shannon's vids that i have watched/rewatched so often. This guy is a treasure.

You may be getting rid of the TC Compass. But the stories that have been told about it will live on in the hands of another. They were an amazing firearm and I'm extremely sad that they are no longer produced. Fairly well old TC Compass, may you bring joy to another. As much joy as it brought not only the previous owner, but the at least 134,000 of us that tuned in to watch the journey. Thanks for bringing it to us JRB and sharing the story.

Shannon, I just want to say thank you for all the work you have done for the hobby, and getting me personally to take the plunge into reloading.
Reloading allows me to enjoy shooting from the bench more, and hunting with mil surplus using my handloads is extremely satisfying. While I was getting my undergrad I would drive to campus at 6am to avoid the Dallas rush hour traffic for my morning classes. When I didn't have homework or a project to work on I would watch your videos while waiting for my class to start. It was amazing to watch you experiment with stuff I didn't have the time or finances to play with at the time.
    Thank you.

It's great to see you back, Johnny. Your videos have been the background to many reloading sessions. In fact, you're the main reason I decided to start reloading in the first place. The level of detail, your willingness to show your mistakes, and most importantly your decision not to fake enthusiasm or be annoyingly cheerful like certain other reloading channels, helped me learn and grow confident in what I was doing. So thank you, and I wish you well no matter what you end up deciding to do.

Johnny, I discovered your videos shortly after I bought my Thompson Center Compass in 6.5 Creedmoor. I thought, hey cool, this guy is shooting the same gun I have, and it shoots well, so I started watching your videos. I wasnt even a hand loader at that time. Now many years later, I still love my Compass, and even have it in the same Oryx Chassis. I now load for 6.5 Creedmoor, 5.56/.223, .300 Blackout, and 9mm. Almost everything I know about loading I learned from watching you, and it all started with that Compass. It has been one of the few guns that I have had that can consistently shoot dime sized groups. And, it always seems to love the same bullets/powders etc as yours does. With Hornady brass, Hornady 140 gr BTHP, and some H4350, I have shot three shot groups as low as 0.11" inches at 100 yds, and 0.20" five shot groups. It consistently outshoots any other gun at the range when I am there, and shoots WAY above its price point. Thank you for all you do! Its awesome that you are helping a young shooter, but as long as it stays the same, I cant ever imagine selling my Compass, its my favorite gun to shoot by far!

I have the same exact rifle too. And did the same thing on the chassis. I'm wondering later in the future will I be able to change the barrel.

Agreed, the only thing I really dont like about the rifle is the barrel. It shoots amazing, but with the thinner profile it heats up pretty quickly. However, it was designed as a hunting rifle, where you are only taking a few shots at a time, so I dont really find it a fault. Also, the threading on the barrel does not have much of a shoulder. I have considered getting a more purpose build long range rifle with a heavier barrel and a better shoulder on the threading, but in the end, for right now, it works great for what I do...

I remember that rifle! I bought one just like after watching your videos on it. I was just starting to reload at the time and I think those videos are what got me interested in handloading! It's a shame Thompson Center no longer makes these they were one of the most accurate budget rifles out there. Thanks for the great videos!

Discovered your Compass/6.5 CM series when you first put them out a few years ago. Those videos got me into reloading and buying 3 TC Compass' in 6.5CM. All of them shoot better than some of my expensive custom builds. I've taken some nice deer with your Speer gold dot loads as well. Sad to see you turn the page but glad the rifle will mean a lot to someone young.
