    My starter and so much fun before I go into my practice. A great reminder of each movement and it makes me smile.

    You are so smooth. It's fun to watch and very educational. Thank you. I found it interesting that , except for "play the Pipa", all the movements are in the 8 form ( or 9 form or 10 form depending on who is playing ) : )

    I just wish you would refer to the hands as "right" or "left" instead of "the hand in front" because we are facing you, and it gets confusing. To me, anyway, a total newbie. Thanks!

    Having also practiced tai chi for close to 50 years I would like to give you a little constructive criticism. I question the placement of your lower hand in cloud hands. Can you explain how you use that hand during martial arts applications?

    • @DavidDorianRoss
      @DavidDorianRoss  3 роки тому

      Hey Michael, awesome question! Over the years I've learned variations on almost all of the movements. In this video I'm modeling how the movements are currently done in Yang Family (i.e. not Beijing style) Tai Chi. In this style, Cloud Hands can be BOTH / EITHER Peng or Lu intention - depending on what you would actually encounter from your opponent. Neither hand is static in its placement, although it may appear so on screen. They are actually both twining continuously - the bottom hand "starts' in a palm down position but ends in a palm up position. The top hand "starts" in a palm facing in position, but ends in a palm facing out position. Hope that helps - and thank you for the question!

      @acupuncter 3 роки тому

      Sorry, I guess I wasn't clear enough in the question, and martial arts application, the Yang 88. I can't set how in your demo how it is used. Obviously the upper hand is grasping an opponent's hand or arm, but I don't see any possibility for that lower hand the way you are doing it.

    I have a master of education in adult education. One of the things you learn is how to teach adults (andragogy) versus the teaching of children (pedagogy). The main thing you are doing incorrectly is you are speaking way too much. In adult instruction you should be teaching and speaking only about the movement at hand. Talking about anything personal to you or anything other than the movement you are demonstrating is not effective in teaching adults. It simply becomes boring to adults and they are more likely to just quit watching because too much time is taken up by talk that is not needed while teaching a movement. In the Don Fiores’ videos he simply teaches the movement and that’s it. That is the correct way to teach adults. Yoga with Adrienne that is what she usually does but sometimes she speaks on something too long. Adults have limited time, an awareness that what is being said has nothing to do with what is being taught, thus boredom and frustration sets in and then results in adults simply dropping out of the instruction. I do not understand why adult instructors do not take a class in the teaching of adults before actually teaching adults. I saw the video that said 100 days video and thought that was exactly what I needed, then when I watched that first video I knew I would not be watching anymore of the videos. Just because you know the subject does not automatically mean you can teach the subject.

      I’m always grateful for input. I know that a lot of people like Don’s approach and if that’s you then I encourage you to follow him. But as far as doing something “wrong,” you might like to know that I’ve taught more adult students and sold more award-winning educational products than any other teacher in America.
      In studying for your degree, you were most likely taught that there are many theories about the “right approach” to andragogy. It’s not an objective science - it is eminently subjective. I don’t know you personally, obviously, but I am an expert on adult education with more than 40 years of experience. Your comments suggest to me that you’re looking for something that I’m not teaching. It’s out there, I promise. Just keep sampling until you find it.

      Most adults disagree with you seeing as only adults are watching his videos, love how he teaches and he’s sold so many tapes and classes throughout his career, so.

    • @shelleythompson1478
      @shelleythompson1478 2 роки тому

      I am not criticizing his knowledge base at all. It is the way he teaches as many do, the way you teach children, pedagogy. He needs to teach andragogy, the way adults learn. Just a first semester class. I can guarantee his numbers would at least double. Time is precious to most adults, if he learned how to teach adults his classes would be more streamlined and effective. A big rule in teaching both children and adults is you never turn your back. One reason being when you are a beginner you have no idea what in the world he is doing. He needs to do away with that period.
